The graduate program core covers research methodology; theories and models in consumer sciences; the behavior of households, families and consumers in the market; and the global consumer marketplace.
Degrees are offered in two concentrations:
- Family Resource Management focuses on the allocation of financial and other resources to achieve the goals of the consumer.
-
Hospitality and Retail Management focuses on the hospitality-tourism industry and/or investigation of textiles and clothing products and their use by people from behavioral and social-psychological perspectives.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Consumer Sciences prepares you to significantly and positively impact consumers within our world economy. Doctoral studies in consumer sciences allows you to dive deeper into studying consumers and their consumption patterns and decision-making.
You'll be immersed in research from the beginning to end of your PhD studies as you deepen your knowledge of consumer sciences. The program also gives you one-on-one access to distinguished faculty who have vast insight and contribute to research that uncovers new ways to enhance consumer welfare and market efficiency and to improve consumer experiences in the marketplace.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirement:
- A bachelor degree or professional degree from an accredited university or college
- Official transcripts of the previous education
- A minimum of 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0 in the last degree earned
- GMAT or GRE exam score is required
- Statement of Intent
- Three letters of recommendation
- CV
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: 79 on IBT; 550 on PBT
- IELTS: 7.0
- MELAB: 82
