Biomedical engineers are employed by pharmaceutical industries, government agencies, biomedical product companies, universities, medical center labs and emerging high-tech industries. Due to their multidisciplinary backgrounds, biomedical engineers have diverse research interests, often acting as liaisons between technological and clinical communities.

Biomedical Engineering offers degrees of Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy with more than 90 faculty mentors to choose from within colleges such as:

  • Dentistry
  • Engineering
  • Medicine
  • Veterinary medicine.

Students also may pursue an MD/PhD degree administered jointly through the College of Medicine and the Graduate School. The combined BS/MS program is an option for high-achieving Ohio State undergraduates.


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0 in all undergraduate coursework
  • Official transcripts of previous undergraduate and gradaute courses 
  • Statement of purpose describing why you want to pursue this course
  • Three letters of recommendation

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL IBT: Minimum of 79
  • IELTS: Minimum of 7.0
  • Minimum of 19 in each section of TOEFL PBT
