Course Curriculum

6

  • It was a mix of both. You will learn theory and also do practical valuation and financial analysis.
  • Positive aspect – The case studies were huge. We used to learn a lot from different people from different countries.
  • Negative aspects – UK-based case studies were very few.
  • Because of Covid, only one class for 2 hours was scheduled in a day. The average class size was 20. 40% Indian Students, 40% Chinese students and 20% from the rest of the world. Out of our batch of 60, only 3 were actually British.

Admission Experience

  • I Applied to 5. Shortlisted 3. Rejected 2 - UCD Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin. I didn't get accepted to UCD Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin, because of my GMAT scores.
  • I got offers from the University of Cork and the University of Galway, but there were no good opportunities in Ireland for finance jobs so I chose the UK university. I applied only to 1 university in the UK; that was Cranfield.
  • This was the best option I was getting over my degree. You just need to clear Ielts in written, if you have experience, that's good – especially in the field you are applying to. I had some experience. That helped me during the course. Admission experience was quite smooth; I got the CAS easily. Try to score at least 7.5 in IELTS; that's a must. Overall, the admission experience was quite smooth, as was the studying experience.
  • 2020 September – My Covid job loss actually forced me to think about this career leap. Admission process took around 4 months. I applied around April 2020 and got an offer in May 2020. In June 2020, I paid £1000 and sealed the offer. After that, I applied for the loan and because of my contacts in SBI, it got cleared by last week in July, and I was able to be there around September 28.

Faculty

6

  • 20:1 was the faculty-to-teacher ratio. Regarding jobs, getting into investment banking is next to impossible with our degree. No one in our batch works in Investment Banking. But yes, you will get a job. Again, if you are up for research, it's a good institution. If you want to get a job in the UK, don't spend your money there.
  • Because University and job markets are completely different ballgames. It depends on what languages you know and what a company needs. one of my friends just got a job at Bloomberg because he knew Turkish, not because of his skills. Because they needed a Turkish speaker. Faculty discourages part-time jobs but you will easily get a part-time job at Royal Mail or Amazon Warehouse.
  • They pay well. And they always need people. Yacine's knowledge of valuations and Blockchain made me admire him. He was my thesis coordinator too.

Campus Life

10

  • 1 Campus. Everything is available within the campus. Library, GYM, sports, Medical services, Supermarket, Saloon everything. There were no festivals because of Covid, but there is a student activity centre where everyone meets on a Saturday.
  • There was none during the 2020 Covid restrictions so I cannot provide everything in detail about the festival.

Part Time Jobs

  • If you are doing a PhD there, then you can get these jobs. These jobs are not easy to get as a master's student. The pay range during that time varied from department to department, depending on the project sponsor. On-campus jobs are very few; they have to travel 10 km to Milton Keynes. there are many warehousing companies where people can get jobs easily. £12 - £15 is the pay per hour in those firms.
  • If you are thinking that you can pay your tuition fees out of part-time work, Cranfield University is not for you. The project works are absolutely rigorous, as it is a master's-only university. Majority of my batchmates are Europeans so either they went back to their home countries or got jobs there because of language preferences.
  • Also, people do get placed back here at home but as the UK job market is very bad and sponsorship fees are very high, you are very unlikely to get a sponsorship, around 3%, especially as an Indian. Regarding part-time jobs, it's easy to apply, but you are going to get tired, and the University is very strict about the project deadlines.

Placement

2

  • 50% of the students got placed within 6 months of the course. Covid times. Basic graduate salaries in every field. UK basic graduate salaries are around £24k-£30k. If you get placed in a top firm, then it's a different story altogether. 3 of my batchmates got placed in Bloomberg, and they got the job because they were Europeans and they needed them because of their language skills. But people got good jobs in their home countries.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • On-campus accommodation. It's good. Everything was nearby. You just need to go once a week to Milton Keynes market, buy stuff and back to the campus. It's safe; you will save a lot of money and time on the contracts; they give back the deposit unlike the UK landlords, and they have everything, from a common kitchen to a workstation.
  • If in Cranfield, go for on-campus accommodation. It will save a lot of your time and make your life better.

Exams

  • Ilets will work, but definitely a good score. SOP, LOR and CV are required. I have a good SOP that explains how my work experience was related to the course and how it will enhance my career.
  • LOR: I did have two people, one from my academics and one of my line managers; you can also have two academic reports. Interview was not a part of the process. So people don't have to worry about that.

Fees

  • I totally spent around £36000 in the year 2020-21. It was a Covid year so I was not able to travel much, so my expenses were limited. Around £23,000 were the tuition fees only. You have to pay £1000 to book and if you get a loan or you can show that you have the bank balance to study there, you will get the CAS letter.
  • Then, after reaching there, you directly pay the balance payment. For the whole year, as it's a one-year course.

Scholarship

  • I got a scholarship of around 10%; I just applied and got it via my work experience applications. In my course, if you have cleared CA or CFA level 1, you will get around 20% of the scholarship.
  • Financial aid was negligible in the case of Indian students, even though they do provide financial aid to students from other countries like Turkey and so on. In Logistics and Material Science, people do get a lot of financial aid. Not the case with Finance, it's extremely difficult.
