Dislikes
- Honestly there’s nothing as such that I did not like about my University. It has given me the most memorable time with the people around me. Every time someone or the else be it a Prof or a Staff member would always openly be willing to help everyone around.
Course Curriculum
10
- It was an intense program and the semester was quite hectic. I feel it was manageable given the amount of resources we had access to. There were a maximum of 2 classes that were scheduled in a day, depending on the classes you have enrolled in for each semester; every student has a different schedule.
- The average number of students in each class would mostly be around 25 as the University focuses on a limited number of students in every batch. That helps to give individual attention. We were given options to choose from for batch timings as well. There were around 8 Indian students in the whole Masters Psychology Program and others were Seniors who were admitted early to my batch.
Admission Experience
-
I applied for the following universities:
- Western Michigan University,
- Pace University,
- University of Texas,
- University of California
- Fresno State University
- LIU Brooklyn
- University of Bridgeport
- Western Illinois University
- Duquesne University
- University of San Bernardino
- Chicago School of Professional Psychology
- Claremont Graduate University
- I don’t believe I have applied more than that.
- I was earlier a student at Western Michigan University and I transferred to Claremont Graduate University. I feel that Claremont Graduate University was more focused on the Research and Evaluation process and I already had a background in humanities, which was a better market fit and my interests grew more in the same field and I decided to transfer to my University.
- I applied for the Fall 2023 intake and as I mentioned, the Research focus of the University was a prime attraction at that time. Additionally, I had also connected with a few Indian students at the University beforehand to know the experience they had at the University and that helped me solidify my decision to enrol. The enrolment process was much better, as I was already in the US and was transferring.
Faculty
10
- The students are fewer in each batch and there will be Teaching Assistants with every Professor to help us with every question we have. The Professors are friendly and focus on the student’s growth, contributing to overall success.
- They also help us understand managing multiple classes and explain the different fields where we could apply for getting a job upon completion of the program. I respect and admire all the Professors who helped me in everything.
Campus Life
10
- I was a part of the Phira Club and we did activities for the students. I was also active in the community activities that gave me awareness about the culture around me. It connected me with diverse groups and people from different backgrounds.
- It encouraged me to push forward my horizons and actively participate in more activities for my personal growth and internal development too.
Part Time Jobs
- Many students get either the Teaching Assistants or the Research Assistants work position. The primary criterion is to have taken the class in any semester throughout your education at the University as it determines you have the foundational knowledge to assess and help the students taking the class. There are other campus jobs available in different departments and everywhere you have to interview due to the discipline of etiquette followed. While you’re a full-time student, you are allowed to work only 20 hours at a part-time job, and in case you’re an international student, you can do that only on campus. It isn’t that difficult to get the job as long as you’re willing to manage timelines with the study.
- It totally depends on the type of job you secured on the campus and which department it is. Mostly students in the library-related jobs get around $16 per hour and the other jobs are followed after that. The University jobs were advertised on Handshake and applied on the same. Once selected, the students were interviewed and informed within a week. You only have to submit the application along with Cover Letter and the Resume.
Placement
10
- We had a Career and Professional Development Department on Campus and also had meetups with industry professionals on a weekly basis where people from different fields would either join online or come to campus and talk about the experience of the time they were studying and they would answer questions too.
- Later we have to do the search by ourselves. The CPD will help us in Resume job applications, etc., and we have to monitor it for every job that we are interested in applying for. All the major companies in the US mostly hire psychology students for various kinds of roles and just mentioning one isn’t enough.
Accommodation
Off Campus
10
- We had a community portal with the The Claremont Colleges and they had advertised a few private homes and more residential units for the students who preferred to stay off campus. My rent was around $900 each month, including utilities gas water etc.
- The staff at TCC always helped us get good accommodation in times of need and they did not interfere with nor were responsible for any lease agreements. It was hardly 10 minutes away from the University and I mostly used the buses that were available free for the students.
Exams
- Depending on the program and the qualifications, every student is assessed and evaluated well to know the skills and understanding, as it’s the core of the University knowing the intensity of the programs and the determination required to complete them within the given timeframe.
- For me, the interview process was a one-on-one where my past research experience was asked about, my work experience and what I learnt was asked about, and a few more similar questions were asked. I had also submitted my SOP, and an LOR was given by my employers, who submitted it directly. My official transcripts from India were also asked to be submitted.
Fees
- My University charges according to the number of credits of each class you enroll in during every semester. The approximate amount for each credit will be around $1500 to $2000 depending on the program you choose. For me it was approximately the same.
- I stayed in private apartments and they were rented with a group of females and that helped me avoid additional maintenance expenses from the dorms.
Scholarship
- Yeah, there are scholarships available for everyone and it totally depends on the eligibility of each student. There are certain scholarships that are based on achievements and can be applied for in advance before every semester.
- You have to confirm it with the department to understand the eligibility that helps to get a better idea as to which one you should choose, as the amounts vary for every scholarship on the campus.
