Course Curriculum

10

  • Some courses are difficult, like marketing and finance, rest are easy and light. But most courses in MEM involve team meetings and lots of assignments, which can get hectic after a while.
  • There is only 1-2 classes a day, that too depends on how many courses have you taken for the semester. usually there are only 4-5 classes a week. They last 3 hours and timing vary for all the classes.

Admission Experience

  • Applied into : –
  1. Duke - Admit
  2. CMU -Admit
  3. JHU- Admit
  4. U Wisc Madisson- Admit
  5. Rice University- Admit
  6. Boston university-Admit
  7. NCSU-Admit
  8. Northeastern-Admit
  9. Syracuse-Admit
  10. UMBC-Admit
  11. Dartmouth-Reject (They require high CGPA and GRE)
  12. UT Austin-Reject (They require high CGPA and GRE)
  13. Northwestern-Reject (They require 3-5 YOE)
  14. NYU-Reject (They require high CGPA and GRE)
  15. Indiana Bloomington-Reject (Low GRE)
  16. UIUC-Reject (They require high CGPA and GRE)
  17. UT Dallas-Reject (can not guess why this got rejected)
  18. UT Arlington Application stuck
  19. UMCP-Application stuck
  20. Uwash-Application stuck
  • I chose Duke because it is one of the top 5 universities that offer MEM course. The alumni have also made it to good companies, so I chose Duke.
  • Admission process is simple, you write an SOP, 3 LORs, submit your IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo and resume. They will review it, if they like your application they will interview and then select you.
  • GRE is optional, IELTS is 6.5 Min.
  • The whole admission process was smooth, the only challenge was they rolled out admission a little late.
  • I applied to the Fall 2024 intake and factors like economic and job markets in the Unites States affected my decision to apply. I saw that the market was improving so I applied for this intake.
  • I started my application process in June 2023 and submitted my last application in Jan 2024. I got my first Admit from northeastern on Jan 12. and then all my other decisions by April.

Faculty

10

  • 183 students, about 150 are indians. 30 are South East asians and rest are others.
  • 150ish indians are enrolled in my Course.
  • Faculties do not assist students in finding part time jobs, there is a portal for part time jobs where you can apply and most students find success on it.
  • I admire Tony O'Driscoll the most, most interesting professor at Duke.
  • Faculty to student ratio is 10:1.This ratio does not influence the quality of education since all professors are superb and there are mentors assigned to each student to seek help as well.
  • The teaching methodology of faculty members is good. Class material is more than sufficient to prepare for the exams.

Campus Life

10

  • The university has 2 main campuses, east and west. east if for 1st and 2nd year. west if for the rest.
  • There are all facilities from sports facilities, gyms, swimming pools, stadiums, libraries, wellness center, sexual wellness, pantry, hospital, therapist, etc.
  • Major events are LDOC and FDOC, duke carnival, campouts, sarah p duke garden hike, diwali, etc.
  • Duke encourages all sports and clubs so all function at their prime capacity with good funding.

Part Time Jobs

  • No part time off campus, but lots of opportunities for Teaching assistant and RA and other part times on campus. no restaurants or food halls though.
  • Pay range is 16-25 USD/hr
  • Usual pay is 16 USD/hr and other jobs include Resident Assistants, Assistants, etc.
  • 20/hrs per week is the max allowed.
  • it is fairly easy to get a part time job if you work hard enough.
  • Most indians work in gyms, as gym assistants. The pay is 16-17 USD per hour. It is easy to secure part time while studying and since its not a lot of work, you can also do you assignments and personal work if the work day is light. There is a portal called jobX to apply and get part time jobs. JobX listing come everyday, you apply ASAP with SOP and resume.

Placement

10

  • 80-90% students find a full time job post graduation from MEM.
  • Avg salary ranges from 70-125K depending on the location of Job and YOE of candidate.
  • Most common way is through networking, through alumni, and then cold applications and career fairs.
  • Most batchmates have been placed in good Fortune 500 companies.
  • Major companies that hire from my course are Walmart, Microsoft

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found accommodation through recommendations from my seniors and Duke also organized a housing fair, so it was easy to choose from options.

  • My roommate pays 500 for a room with bathroom
  • And one roommate stays in the hall for 370 USD
  • We pay 1530 for the whole 2B 1.5B apartment and 220 for utilities.
  • My apartment is 10 min walk from campus.

Exams

  • GRE, IELTS or TOEFL are required for masters admissions in USA. But Duke does not require any of those. They only require either TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo.
  • Statement of Purpose, LOR, CV, English test results, any other tests like GRE/GMAT results, transcripts.
  • Yes, Interview was part of the process, and it was a candid interview with alumni and admission committee. They only talk about you, your profile, interests and future goals.
