Course Curriculum

8

  • The difficulty level of the course curriculum was medium and it was a mix of both.
  • The main positive aspect is that we can get to explore more with the support from the faculty.
  • Well, the drawback is that some part of the course curriculum doesn't make sense as to why we are having it in the first place.

Admission Experience

  • Applied to three colleges.
  1. Kent state university - Admitted
  2. University of Cincinnati - Rejected
  3. University of Maryland, Baltimore county - Waitlisted
  • I believe that it's possibly because of the low GRE score which is 303. Could improve my IELTS score as well which is 7. I think that I should've applied sooner than what I did as people get admitted on a rolling basis. The sooner, the better.
  • Suggestions from a friend led me to choose this college.
  • Submission of the exams (GRE and IELTS) scores. Get the letter of recommendations either from professors or colleagues and prepare a statement of purpose and upload them in the university profile.
  • Gre and IELTS or TOEFL or Duolingo (For MS in CS). GRE - 300+ IELTS - 6.5+
  • The process is smooth.
  • I applied to Fall intake. I thought that I'd stand a chance to get a Summer internship.
  • It took around a month and a half from the application to acceptance. For application to process, we need to have all the documents (SOP, LOR and exam scores) which will take about a couple of months to refine them. After application submission, it goes through several stages which we can see in the college portal. We'll get updates every now and then. The status of it was revealed in a month or so.

Class Schedule

8

  • It depends on the courses that we registered to.
  • The start of the classes vary from 9 AM to 9:30 PM.
  • Around 300 students were enrolled for computer science for the fall 2023 intake.

Faculty

8

  • It was around 40k US dollars until this point. That included tuition and insurance and not hostel provided by the college.
  • It's credit-based which is 1000 dollars per credit and each course has a minimum of 2 credits and maximum of 3 credits.
  • Rent - approximately 300, electricity 25, mobile 25, groceries 50-100. All the amount is in dollars and on an average.

Campus Life

10

  • Kent state university has eight campuses. Ashtabula, Colombiana, Salem, Geagua, Kent, Stark, Trumbull, Tuscarawas.
  • We free bus facility, recreational and wellness center facility and access to library.
  • The medical insurance costs about 1800 dollars per semester.
  • We have majority of the sports clubs, and festivals like Diwali and Holi are being celebrated very well here.

Part Time Jobs

  • For each subject, one Teaching Assistant (TA) will be assigned. Research Assistant (RA) position will be given to those who prove themselves in the assigned work. I only know one person who had been promoted to RA.
  • Pay range is 13-15 dollars.
  • Other on-campus jobs are available at culinary services and recreation and wellness services. For international students it's 20 hours/week.
  • It's moderately difficult now.
  • It depends on the type of job that a student does. It ranges from 10 to 15 dollars. It is moderately difficult now. Students can apply for part-time jobs through the handshake portal or application. It involves submitting the application.
  • Some of the jobs might require a cover letter and a resume. If shortlisted, an interview will take place and within a week or so, the offer letter is released.

Placement

4

  • As far as I know more than 50 percent of graduating students secure employment within 6 months of completing their course.
  • Average salary ranges from 70k-90k dollars.
  • Mostly through online job portals, linkedin and it's better if a student secures an internship opportunity.
  • It's good to have that one which, mostly, will be converted to a full time opportunity.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I used online platform to get the accommodation.
  • The monthly rent was 310 dollars for 2 bedroom and 1 and a half bathroom apartment which include the refrigerator, air conditioner, free heater and wi-fi.
  • I would suggest the future students to secure accommodation off-campus since it's affordable and spacious as well.
  • It's a 10 minute walk from out apartment. Most of the students either stay at Holly park apartments, Genesis, Ryan's place or Eagle's landing.

Exams

  • Exams are required for admission to my university is IELTS and GRE for Masters in Computer Science.
  • Statement of Purpose and LOR are the documents necessary to complete the admission process at my university.
  • Interview was not a part of your application process. I do not have to deal with it.

Fees

  • It was around 40k US dollars until this point. That included tuition and insurance and not hostel provided by the college.
  • It's a credit-based which is 1000 dollars per credit and each course has a minimum of 2 credits and maximum of 3 credits.
  • Rent - approximately 300, electricity 25, mobile 25, groceries 50-100. All the amount is in dollars and on an average.

Scholarship

  • I did not receive any scholarship during my course.
  • I do not know anyone who received scholarships or any of your batchmates receive scholarships or other forms of financial aid.
  • I have no idea about the number of students that on average receive scholarships each year.
