Required Exams for Admission

SAT (1510)

I love the unique program of Intelligence and Cyber Operations that USC offers and I thought that it would be a better career path that I had originally decided to step into. Instead of majoring in data science, I would just minor in it to apply it to a different field I was interested in -- cybersecurity. Another reason I took this offer is that USC is close to home and was a cheaper option than the other option I was deciding on. I loved that USC is a social school, built on making connections which is a skill that I needed to develop, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall my college experience at USC has been phenomenal and I definitely wouldn't change a thing. It truly is a great place and I want to make sure I can make use of it for the next three years. I know this is cliche but it is the people that make USC what USC truly is. I would love to continue meeting new people and enjoying my time at USC!

Course Curriculum

7

I actually really love our major. Courses are definitely updated and tweaked to include new information and strategies by the professors. Advisors are overworked for our department for sure but they definitely pull through with making the course syllabi relevant to our major. The Dornsife school emails students on different opportunities for industrial exposure such as resume workshops, big tech talks, etc.

Faculty

8

The faculty to student ratio is very low which is also a pro of USC and why I preferred private schools over public schools during my college choosing decision. These professors are so approachable and knowledgable in their fields and are willing to help you in and out of the classroom. I will have to personally shout out Professor McGregor, as he is such a chill professor that helped me learn a lot about ethical hacking. I loved his anecdotes he had about his professional experiences in some of the fields I am interested in. Some of the professors I've had are in charge of the program itself and are very lenient and willing to listen to feedback on how to tweak content for future classes or even adding different types of classes we would be interested in. They genuinely want us to succeed and are very passionate about teaching.

Campus Life

8

Campus life is always popping with USC featured events. They have this app called eventSC which has a list of many different college-wide and college-specific events. For example, I went to their Paint Night, Dance Night, Carnival Night, only to mention a few. They also have many clubs of different interests and lots of school spirit (Fight On!). They also have basketball courts, swimming pools, two gyms, and more. Lots of libraries to study in as well which includes good WiFi.

Placement

8

Because Intelligence and Cyber Operations is a very unique major, there are definitely a lot of connections that students in this program have over others. This club called Cyborg hosts weekly events with big companies such as Crowdstrike, Microsoft, FBI, etc. They show us different internship opportunities they have and urge us to apply! Not sure about the specifics of the placement process or number of students placed as that information isn't just publicly shared like that but I know a few friends that secured well-paying jobs (around 70k/year) at these companies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

I personally am not going to study abroad so I don't have any details. However, my friend is considering studying abroad and he believes that the accommodating rooms would be similar to USC's price for housing, which is around $13,000/year.

Exams

- My score: SAT 1510/1600 - Grade 10- All A's for both semesters Grade 12- All A's first semester, 5 A's 1 B's second semester - No SOP or CV submitted. LORs from both my English teacher (from 9th-11th) and Math teacher (9th-11th). Key points were that I am an ambitious student with strong values and strong performance. One interview done with USC for scholarship round. - Interview Round: Yes, I had one round of interview after application to USC in the early action round. A handful of those who are admitted via early action have a chance to get this scholarship, and then have to go through some rounds of interviews. Basic advice is to definitely research about the program and the school you got into to show that you are very much interested in going to USC and also just be yourself. Be sure to be able to talk about your major and different types of experiences and be prepared for some trivia-type questions that they ask to get to know more about your personality.

Fees

The tuition fee is $69,000/year but around $95,200/year total (this includes housing, meal plan, etc)

Scholarship

Received the Director's Scholarship which is $4,000/year. After the interview process, USC awarded me the scholarship.
