Throughout this course, you will gain a fundamental knowledge and understanding of concepts in mathematics, statistics and operational research while developing high-level skills in problem solving, research and information technology.

At the same time, you will build a critical awareness of educational issues. You will analyse key theoretical concepts in the study of education and can choose the education modules which match your particular interests and career aspirations.ÊÊ

As part of your studies, you will analyse and debate current educational policy, provision and methods within the UK and the European Union. They introduce you to the purposes, settings and character of education and educative processes so that you can understand the various types of education policy at both local and national levels. This includes analysing themes in terms of educational management, governance of schools and the directing and direction of the curriculum.

In particular, you will consider education structures, provision and issues of inequality in education, and will develop your awareness of how class, gender and ethnicity influence educational achievement.

During your studies, you could take advantage of the exciting opportunities presented by Erasmus Plus, a European scheme promoting mobility for students and staff in higher education.

You could consider studying for a semester or taking a placement at one of our selected Erasmus Plus partners. These include universities such as UBB Cluj and UAB University of Alba Iulia in Romania; Bogazici University in Turkey; the University of Maribor in Slovenia; or the University of Piraeus and the University of Macedonia in Greece.

Careers

Many graduates from this course continue their studies by taking a PGCE and enter the teaching profession. They frequently enjoy rapid promotion: in just one example, a graduate was promoted to Head of Year within two years!

You can also expect to obtain employment in a variety of positions within modern business and industry where you can make full use of your mathematics degree. Recent graduates have gone on to work in the London Stock Exchange and as statistical or risk analysts in multinational organisations.Ê
