I applied to 3 colleges as listed below: The University of Edinburgh - Rejected Queen's University Belfast - Admitted University of Stirling - Rejected I received a confirmed application from Queen's University Belfast, which happened to be my second preference of college The University of Edinburgh rejected my application because I had not reached their academic target University of Stirling rejected my application as I did not have all the qualifications required I chose this college over others because I was drawn to the campus, the course module, and the professors were very warm and welcoming as I asked many questions to them, even as I was researching through colleges to attend. I had to write my SOP and get 3 references from my undergrad university. The eligibility criteria for me were to come from a zoology, biology, or psychology background. I was asked to take my IELTS English test, and the minimum score required is 7.0 for post-grad courses. My admission experience was very smooth, and I heard back from the college much faster than the rest of them I had applied to. However, the user interface that college students use can be much better in terms of accessibility. It takes a few tries before one gets the hang of it. I applied for the 2022-2023 intake. The course modules of my course I had applied for played a huge role in why I apply to Queen's University, Belfast. It resonated with me, and it was exactly what I was looking for in terms of academic growth. The admission process took long if I go back to when I started writing my SOP and papers in order, so the process could be seamless from my end. I started prepping a year in advance while working a job on the side and taking my IELTS tests. For the application itself, I took an extra 3 days to finally hit the submit button, making sure I had filled it out properly. I value the diverse cohort, practical teaching style, and supportive faculty. Overall, my experience has been enriching, with excellent academic exposure and opportunities for professional growth. Also, Belfast is a safe place, have friendly culture and budget friendly for international students. The university provided me an opportunity of submitting just my 12th standard English marksheet without IELTS or any other entrace exams as thier criteria was, a student to be secured 85% and above in their 12th standard english exam. My supervisor posted on the twitter and i arranged a chat with supervisor. I applied for this interesting project as it aligns with my research interest and find my supervisor very supportive. The application process is simple for Queen's university Belfast. First Check for relevant project and funding details, then apply through the portal and they will provide real time update for the application. They will ask for official transcript for education, TOEFEL and marksheets of qualifying exams that vary with courses. My panel that taken my interview give the result on the same day that's the best part of process. At last there is need to made a profile on CAS Shield on to which there is a need to upload ATAS certificate( this takes the most time to come from UK gov), TB certificate and other details. I applied for three universities in UK - Queen's University Belfast: ADMITTED (CURRENTLY STUDENT) University Of Bristol - ADMITTED (£39,000 Fees were too much for my financials) University of Manchester, REJECTED I have no idea why? No sort of communication from Manchester after application. Not even a mail confirmation. Maybe my application was late and there selection process was completed.) I applied to one University in Republic of Ireland: University College of Dublin, Waitlisted (I had a scheduled interview but I cancelled on it since I decided to go for the UK rather than the Republic of Ireland). I chose Queen's University Belfast for its student support cell, affordable fees, scholarships, Russell Group status, world-class infrastructure, excellent professors and industry-oriented course subjects that interested me. The admissions process was pretty easy. You send out your application from there website; after that, if your profile qualifies for the first screening, you will be given a conditional letter. Once you receive that, specific requirements would be mentioned in terms of your course and profile. Since I had passed Class XII English with 87 and had active work experience in a renowned company, my IELTS was wavered, and I did not have to give that. The documents asked during this stage would be a passport, degree (Bachelors), marks card, work experience letter, letter of recommendation if any and references. Then, once you have met with all these, you will be given an unconditional letter. You can use this letter to source an education loan. Also, the unconditional letter will have scholarship details as well. Scholarship exams and processes can be done before or after this as well. If you do after, make sure to ask for an updated unconditional letter. The move from conditional to unconditional letter also needs a £1000 deposit (refundable if not selected). If selected, then used against your academic fees. Not refundable if you change your mind and don't wish to go ahead with QUB anymore. After this, you will be given a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) letter. This is required for your UKVI visa process. During this time, to get the CAS, you need to pay another £5000. This is by law of UKVI and not the university. UKVI states that to issue CAS, they need to pay between £2000 and £5000 (which goes towards your academic fees so there's nothing extra), depending on the university. Once the CAS is received, apply for a visa with the CAS and many more documents that are listed on the UK Immigration website under the Student Visa Documents checklist. You will get a personalized checklist once you apply for a visa as well. Once Visa and Vignette received, Yay! The acceptance requirement depends course to course. For the master's course, I believe the IELTS score needs to be 6.5 Band with no less than 5.5 in any module (do re-check though). Each course has entry requirements as well, like a minimum score in undergraduates of 60% or higher and many more. You can get this info on the QUB website under the specific course you are looking for with the heading "ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.". The process for the application in my case was not too difficult. Be aware, be careful and use common sense. Get's the job done. Don't know, no worries; the university has paid staff to help you with that. In fact, QUB will hold weekly doubt sessions for all its prospective students. You can meet student ambassadors and faculties through such online meetings as well. Online meetings do not cut it for you? No worries! QUB hosts pre-departure meets physically in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Delhi (subject to change year to year). I was admitted to all six universities. I received offer letters (admission confirmation) from all 6 universities, and then I chose Queen's University Belfast. My application was successful in each of the 6 colleges that I applied to. I chose Queen's University Belfast solely because of it's research excellence. Although all the other colleges also had significant research output and were a part of Russell's group, I wanted to specifically work on cancer biology and therapeutics. Luckily, I was selected for the same and carried out research related to cancer during my thesis. I wanted to understand the molecular mechanisms of the tumour microenvironment and it's therapeutics and Queen's research was throughly focused on immune responses and gene regulation, which matched my research interests. The admission process is as follows: Entry Requirements: 1. A 2:1 degree is required in a relevant field. For my course, this would be a background in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, or any other relevant field (I did biotechnology engineering). 2. English language proficiency is also required for international students (IELTS/TOEFL). Specific details about scores can be found on the website. Application Process: Online Application: Applications are submitted directly through the QUB online application portal. The process is fairly straightforward and can be done on your own. Necessary documents: 1. Academic transcripts 2. A degree certificate or provisional degree certificate (if a degree certificate is not available yet). 3. CV 4. References (usually two academic or professional references) 5. Personal statement or letter of motivation (I feel this is the most important document for selection). 6. I started applying in December 2021 and received a conditional offer letter in January 2022 as I was still completing my bachelor's. I applied to various colleges. Initially, I planned on going to Australia and got accepted at Monash but due to pandemic lockdown rules, the university asked me to do some of my course online with no set guarantee of offline classes. My parents decided to not continue with this. Then I applied to the University of Glasgow and got accepted. However, they called me saying they did not have any seats left for my course and wanted me to take another one for a whole semester. I decided it would waste 6 months on a course that I was not interested in. so I discontinued. I also applied to the University of Strathclyde and they never responded to my application. I have zero clue as to why they did not respond. My application credentials were up to mark and I submitted all documents they asked me for. I think QUB stood out especially as a Russell Group University. The cost of living in Belfast is lower compared to cities like London and Manchester. The faculty seemed really nice when I attended an induction session. There were many Indians in the meeting, which made me realise that this university was not closed off to internationals. The admission process was very simple. We had to write one statement of purpose. After submitting the form and paying the fees, we had to wait for a month or two for them to revert. If you were a student of an English-medium school, you did not have to submit any IELTS or TOEFL scores. The overall process was pretty simple and after talking to my friends, they also admitted that none of them faced any issues other than the wait and anticipation of their response.
