What Students Say
Likes
- The city of Edinburgh was amazing, quite student-friendly.
- The Heriot Watt Edinburgh campus is nice, lots of study spaces, green & peaceful campus, well connected to the city.
- Facilities offered by the Uni were really good & the management was cooperative & helpful.
Dislikes
- The faculty was good, though the method of delivery could have been better for some subjects.
- Finding jobs is really difficult & not much awareness about the graduate programmes offered by the companies.
Course Curriculum
- The syllabus & subjects were good, not up to date though
- I hadn't opted into an industrial placement year; even for students in an industrial placement year, they had to find the placement programs by themselves.
- Mostly it's 3 days a week & 2-3 classes a day
- Approx 50-60 students
Admission Experience
- Amazing experience, I chose the course there as the Uni was highly rated for the program.
- So the Uni ranking for the specific program & job prospects were the most important & then it was the living abroad experience & the city life.
Faculty
- The faculty was good, a few teachers were okayish, yes, you can contact them & approach them, 1 teacher to around 100 students, Professor David Rowe was the best I had.
Campus Life
- The campus is amazing, calm, peaceful, lush green environment, a big pond, well connected, many libraries & study places, well connected to the city.
- There is specific infrastructure for sports, Robotics, labs, and libraries
Part Time Jobs
- On-campus jobs might be difficult, but in the UK, you can work off-campus as a student. There are several jobs in the retail industry offering minimum wages. Max hours 20 during the Uni period & can do up to 40+ hours during the break or vacation period. Around 13-14 GBP per hour.
- Get your national insurance number through the UKVI website, & then then you can apply for part-time jobs on the specific websites of the retailer, shopping plazas, retail parks, malls, etc
Placement
- Job prospects are difficult to summarize: if you try hard, you can secure a job; if not, finding a job can be challenging.
- Loads of part-time jobs are available while you are in Uni as a student.
- Do thorough research about the prerequisites for the job in your field before enrolling.
- The best method would be to apply for graduate programs when you start your course, then once you graduate, you can start work if selected. Applications for the graduate roles begin a year before the actual start date.
- The next best method would be networking on LinkedIn.
Accommodation
- Depends upon city to city. For Edinburgh, it is 600-800 GBP per month for a single room outside, inside the campus, it might be 800-1000 GBP per month.
Exams
- SOP & LOR.
- For some state boards in India, there are no requirements for IELTS or TOEFL, like the Maharashtra board. Master's program should be related to your undergrad subject; if not, then you can write specific SOPs
Fees
- 16,000-18,000 GBP for a 1-year MSc Construction Project Management course
