What Students Say
Likes
- Career Zone & Guidance: The university has a great career zone situated in a separate building wherein there are readily available mentors, CV review, Interview prep courses etc.
- Academic Curriculum: The curriculum was just right and perfect to balance out a MSc student’s life with a perfect blend of theory and practical assignments. Assignments are super heavy and more in number making the topic easy to understand
- Societies & Events: There are more than 13+ societies to participate with no cap! Each of them holding amazing events, programs especially for international students- a great way to network and make friends. Another great thing was the variety of societies and not just sticking to a single niche.
Dislikes
- Transport: As the university is on a hilltop, it becomes difficult to travel back and fro to the city. There is a bus option but can be inconvenient at times.
Course Curriculum
- The academics on my course were highly relevant, I think it is an integral part whole choosing your course. The teaching and academics at UoE is a mixed balance of learning and practical experience.
- It is a great way of adding lots of assignments and making learning collaborative.
Admission Experience
- I applied to a total of 5 universities, out of which I got offers from 4 and got waitlisted in 1.
- Confirmed Offers: University of Exeter, University of Bristol, University of Glasgow, Queen Mary University of London.
- None of the colleges rejected me ! The only 1 where I was waitlisted was University of Manchester and the potential reason could’ve been my timeline. I started late in the process and applied late for University of Manchester. My waitlisting reason was there were no seats available but had kept my profile on hold in case anything was made open last minute.
- The primary reason was the University’s Business School- it held a triple crown accreditation and a mark of global excellence with heritage. Additionally, factors like curriculum, placements/company tie-ups and the city played a big role in making the decision.
- The admission process was surprisingly simple with steps like- choosing the program, preparing documents, adding SOP and any other documents to support the same, looking for scholarships if any and applying online.
- IELTS should be enough
- The overall experience was a solid 9/10, in my case I faced delay in getting my CAS letter which delayed my visa. Apart from that it was a smooth process from the university’s end too.
- Intake- September Intake. Admission process took 4-5 months on a span
- Detailed timeline- Applied with all the documents in Jan 2023, got my offer in Mar 2023, Paid my deposit to confirm my admission in June 2023 (that was the deadline), and received my CAS after submitting final transcripts around August 2023.
- As I went for my MSc straight out of Bachelor’s the transcripts took time hence my CAS came later.
Faculty
- Faculty at the University of Exeter are genuinely supportive , helpful and knowledgeable . Many of the faculty members have a strong academic background along with the real industry experience , which makes classes practical and engaging . I really appreciate how approachable they were and they were always open for discussions.
- They gave quick feedbacks and also were willing to guide if we are struggling. They create a really inclusive environment for international students.
Campus Life
- It was the best campus experience at the University of Exeter. It was full of energy and warmth. There used to be always some or the other cultural festivals organized and also there used to be musical nights .
- There also used to be charity events. There were creative clubs organized and it was very easy to get into them for academics or just for fun . The Student’s Guild did an amazing job of bringing all the students together in a good way and it was best for meeting people from all over the world and also they made us feel a part of the community.
Part Time Jobs
- There are a lot of both on and off campus opportunities available for the students of the University of Exeter. I have worked at Zara and then later at Beaverbrooks, both off campus. It helped me gain a lot of practical experience while I was studying at the University. A lot of students worked on campus at the cafes, shops or at the university itself. The career zone at the university is very supportive and also regularly shares openings which makes it easy to find the roles that fit the best around your classes. Working part time helped me improve my communication skills, build confidence and helped me experience the British work Culture.
- The preference is really to an individual and not based on nationality. There are plenty good options around the city- the key is to apply early
Placement
- The University of Exeter provides a strong career support for students who are looking for full time job opportunities after graduation. The career team is helpful and genuinely approachable . It is invested in helping students to prepare for their future . They also organize regular career fairs , networking events and workshops for CV writing and interview skills. This helps to make a big difference while applying for competitive graduate schemes.
- This support and guidance helped me to secure two post graduation offers first one was from PwC and the 2nd one was from Deloitte. This process helped me learn a lot about professionalism, resilience and how to presen myself with confidence . The opportunities provided by the University of Exeter helped me truly reach the stage and also confidently step into the working world.
Accommodation
- Off campus accommodation- Studio Apartment 15mins away from the campus
Exams
- The admission process was straightforward and easy. I had finalized my top 5 universities and also had applied via portal. I had uploaded all the required documents such as academic transcripts , SOP , accommodation letters and the English language proficiency test results.
- I also submitted my IELTS score since the University of Exeter accepts IELTS, TOEFL and PTE scores. After submission of the required documents, I received an acknowledgement email.
- Within a few weeks , I was issued a conditional offer that later became an unconditional when I met academic and financial requirements. The university had also guided me through the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies process that is essential for the UK student visa (Tier 4).
Fees
- The tuition was 28000GBP for the entire course, out of which I received flat 5000GBP scholarship, accommodation took another 11000GBP but it depends and fluctuates on the type of accommodation.
- The university gives an option for all 3 mentioned options.
- Monthly expenses can again vary from individual to individual- 900GBP
- Breakdown- Rent- 600GBP, Transportation- 60GBP, Food- 120-150GBP, Miscellaneous- 100-150GBP
Scholarship
- Yes, Global Excellence Award- 5000GBP, Eligibility criteria- Academic and Nationality
- The award amount for the scholarship was 5000GBP
- There would be a cap for the number of seats kept for scholarship but for Indians they do have multiple options but the ideal scenario would be applying as early as possible.
