Course Curriculum

10

  • It was not very difficult but not so easy for me. And it was both a theoretical and practical approach, as we had classes for 6 months and then a practical dissertation for 6 months. I had classes for 3 days a week, wed, thus, and fri. There were a total of 26 students in the class from India, Pakistan and Nigeria. I guess there were around 15-17 students from India in my class.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities:
    • Hertfordshire University - confirmed admission
    • Middlesex University - confirmed admission
    • University of Greenwich - Shortlisted
  • I didn't apply to many colleges, as I had gotten an admission to the college I needed. Also, I didn't choose Hertfordshire, as it was very far from where I wanted to live and the modules were also a bit different. Greenwich was also on the list but it was also far.
  • Middlesex university was only 35 minutes away via bus from my accommodation, which was really helpful to save time. Also, it had the best list of modules to learn as a master's student of a computer science course. I really loved learning blockchain and cybersecurity, which were out of my scope and I broadened my horizon doing these modules. It accepted the IELTS score - I had 7.5 bands. It required 6 in each at the time. They took one interview with me and asked about why I wanted to study with them. The process was smooth as butter.
  • I applied to the January intake of 2023. It took months for the whole process. As I had applied in August and got results in October, then they took my interview which I passed and I paid the deposit amount in November. After that I received a CAS letter, which is proof of my confirmed admission in December 2022. Then, I applied for my visa and got it at the end of December. My classes were starting on 11th January so I had enough time for travelling.

Faculty

8

  • There were pretty few students in my class. So ratio didn't matter. Teaching methodology was quite good. Faculties used PowerPoint presentations to teach students and some also gave live demos and practice sessions with presentations to understand the concepts. Faculties were ready to support students for part-time and full-time jobs from their personal network. I admired our module leader the most, as he was a bit strict but that was effective.

Campus Life

10

  • There is only one campus in London. There are many facilities, such as a sports center, library, medical center, and student council services on campus. The major festival I attended was MDXFest, which includes both technical and cultural events and activities. There are also different kinds of clubs, such as music, drama, technical, sports, arts, etc. There is a student union that organizes these events.

Part Time Jobs

  • None of us secured a teaching assistant job. It's rare to get a TA/RA position on campus. However, there are other jobs on campus that are offered through MDXWorks, such as IT support, Student union jobs, ambassadors, etc. They pay minimum wage and a bit higher if you have a good experience. Students can work 20 hours max per week while studying. It is a bit difficult to secure an on-campus job but you can find an off-campus job.
  • Indian students mostly work in warehouses and restaurants. They earn minimum wage per hour in their part-time job. It was a bit difficult when I came but usually a student secures a job in 2-3 months after coming to London. Students can apply online on platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Jobs today to get a job. Moreover, students usually go in person to shops for job vacancies, and also word of mouth is a great factor here, as if you have someone referring you for a job, that's great.

Placement

4

  • There are many opportunities available for full-time jobs in the market. Some of us had secured a job within 6 months but a student has 2 years after completing their study to find a job. Salary range depends upon the role you are applying for and your experience, if you have any. The recruitment process is a bit longer here than in India, as I appeared in 4 rounds to secure a job.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • I found accommodation from my personal network. Monthly rent was 400 without food and I was sharing a room with a friend. It included wifi and bills. A friend of mine had already found a room for me so it was not very difficult but I had looked on facebook before for rooms. My room was around 35-40 minutes away by bus from the university. I lived in an Indian area where there were a lot of Indian students living nearby.

Exams

  • I know of IELTS only because I had given IELTS and received 7.5 bands. But it required 6 bands in each module—reading, writing, speaking and listening—to qualify for an admission. I am not aware of any other exams that are eligible but I am sure there are other options to qualify for this requirement. And yes, they took an interview of me, asking why I wanted to come to the UK only and Middlesex university in particular.

Fees

  • The total fees were 15500 pounds a year. I don't remember the exact deposit amount but it must be 3000 or 5000 and then 50 % until January and the remainder until May. I took the January intake in 2023.
  • I paid 350 pounds for rent, 100 pounds for transportation, 150 pounds for food and groceries, and 100 pounds for other things such as eating out or entertainment.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I got a 2000 pounds scholarship for my profile, as I had 7.5 bands in IELTS and 4+ years of experience as a software developer. I was not given the scholarship at first but I talked to the lady who was looking at my admission and requested a scholarship and after my interview and looking at my profile, they offered me a scholarship of 2000 pounds.
