What Students Say
Dislikes
- Additional information would be helpful in terms of expectations from University for academic success, I have seen student struggling at scoring at the assignments just to realise later what's expected.
- A challenge I faced in one of my module that the project was supposed to be completed with members across different courses and those members did not really do much to support. This is due the fact people have different and priorities and goals, some just want to complete the project while other intendeds to excel. Having an option to select team members for the project will be helpful for like minded people sharing similar goals
Course Curriculum
- The Curriculum did seem updated. Since I did not took placement year, did not really got any industry knowledge, though for one of our project, we did happen to work on real data.
Admission Experience
- I applied at multiple Universities across UK and was accepted in all of them, considering the size of the city and options in terms of accommodation were important factors. On top that, I have checked the ranking of the university on different site and SHU had better ranking.
Faculty
- The faculty to student ratio seem pretty decent. I can tell they had a good background and understanding on the subject matter. They were professional and quite reachable, but I suppose that depends on person to person. For eg, if you are attending all lectures and pay attention you are perceived differently while if you are not up to the mark this may differ. This normally is reflected while you seek additional help, I recollect getting additional help from one of my lecturer outside the classroom, while I wanted help in the module they helped me by sparing couple of hours so I can get more clarity on the subject. And this was not something I had to ask for, they offered help in the classroom and asked all of us to email them so they can set the time aside.
Campus Life
- Considering work-life balance and amount of time it needs to spend for the assignments, I did not attended much events, as far as I am aware the university did had moderate activities and events. I did liked the library though, it has lot to offer.
Part Time Jobs
- Most students earned NMW and almost all of them worked outside the campus. Maximum work allowed were 20 hrs a week. I guess its easy to get job outside. I do not recollect any one doing the jobs in point 5.
Placement
- I have limited information on the above, I believe most got job within 6 months by various routes.
Accommodation
- I paid around 400 GBP a month, which I found using Uni portal, they did listed a few options for accommodation in the city.
Exams
- SOP, IELTS, CV and results of previous educations.
- My scores: IELTS 5.5, I do not recollect any information about min score in previous education, probably cause I have had really good score in my bachelors, hence it was not challenged or discussed.
Fees
- At that time it were around 13000GBP.
