Dislikes
- Curriculum is more theoretical and it could be more practical with hands-on experiences rather than just focusing on writing reports.
- This course is quite hectic which is stressful.
I chose Imperial College for its fantastic teaching and research reputation. Apparently, it has just been crowned the 2nd best university in the world. In addition to that the university has very modern facilities, an overall diverse academic environment and good industry connections. This decision was reinforced when I contacted several ex-students and they all responded favorably. The UK made sense as I wanted to be in an English-speaking country too. From the relevance of subjects to my career aspirations (I was moving from consulting into marketing, and excited about the prospect of being taught by who were arguably the best in their field) It has had its moments but for the most part it has been great.
Course Curriculum
The course curriculum is updated frequently and is great in terms of relevancy. The curriculum covers the latest advancements in this field along with both theoretical and practical insights. There are guest lectures, group projects and networking events that help us in networking and also to gain industrial exposure. Overall, my academic experience is great and is closely aligned with current industry standards.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio in my course was quite decent. We had around 280 students divided into 2 classrooms with same faculty. Faculty members are very knowledgeable, and are highly engaging. You can approach them anytime, they are always available to help you out. One professor who stood out for me and left a significant impact was James Eteen.
Campus Life
Campus life at Imperial is amazing. The university has top-notch infrastructure along with modern research labs, library and stable wifi. There are so many clubs and societies which you can join during your course. Also, multiple events and extracurricular activities are always happening, there is never a dull day at Imperial. There are also multiple sports facilities, including a gym, for all those health freaks!
Placement
In foreign universities, there is typically no structured placement system; you need to take the initiative to find opportunities on your own.
Accommodation
I currently have a studio with an attached bathroom and kitchen, costing £286 per week. This rate was manageable, but recent price increases due to inflation have made it more expensive.
