Tips and Tricks for Indian Students Applying to Glasgow MSc Computing Science
Competitive (~30–40% acceptance for internationals), but Indian tech grads thrive. Advice:
- Build Computing Proof: List ≥50% relevant modules/projects (e.g., GitHub repos, internships at Infosys). If short, add Coursera certs (e.g., Algorithms by Princeton) in statement.
- Statement Strategy: 500–1,000 words: 50% projects (e.g., app dev), 30% why Glasgow/SICSA, 20% goals (e.g., AI in Indian fintech). Use Indian context like Digital India.
- Scholarship Rush: Auto £5k World Changers (Round 1—apply by 5 Nov 2025, past but check extensions!). Chevening essays on "tech for India's growth"—~50 Indians win yearly.
- Visa/Finances: Post-offer, Student Visa (£490) with CAS; loan (SBI/HDFC, up to ₹45 lakh @9–10%). TB test (~₹7,000) in India. Wise for transfers.
- Life Hacks: £1,000/month budget; shared housing via Rightmove (£400–600). Join Indian Computing Society for events/jobs. Part-time: 20 hrs/week (£10–12/hr, tech support).
- App Tips: Round 2 (Dec 2025) if missed Round 1. Reference from IIT prof on projects.
- Career Path: 2-year Graduate Visa for UK tech; return for ₹15–25 lakh roles at Wipro. Backup: MSc Data Science.
FAQs
Ques 1. Can I apply with a non-CS degree (like BTech ECE, BSc Maths, or BCA)? Do I need coding experience?
Answer: Yes — any degree is accepted, but at least 50% of your credits must be in Computing modules (e.g., programming, data structures, OS, databases).
- BTech ECE / IT: Usually OK if you studied C, Java, Python, DBMS.
- BSc Maths / BCA: OK only with strong coding proof (internships, GitHub, Coursera certs). No coding in college? Complete 2–3 projects (e.g., web app, ML model) and list in your personal statement — many Indians get in this way.
Ques 2. What’s the starting salary after MSc Computing Science? Is ₹40 lakh worth it?
Answer: Yes — strong ROI.
- UK: £40,000–£60,000 (~₹47–70 lakh) as Software Engineer / Data Engineer (Amazon, Barclays, IBM).
- India: ₹15–30 lakh (TCS, Infosys, Flipkart, Paytm) — 2x–3x jump from pre-MSc ₹6–12 lakh. Break-even: 1.5–2 years in UK or 2–3 years in India. 95% employed in 6 months — Glasgow’s SICSA network connects you to 100+ Scottish tech firms.
Ques 3. Are there full scholarships for Indian students in MSc Computing Science?
Answer: Full funding is rare but possible. Best options:
- Chevening Scholarship: Full tuition + ₹20 lakh stipend + airfare — top choice. Apply by 5 November 2025 (deadline passed — next cycle Nov 2026). Focus essay on “Tech for India’s Digital Economy”. ~50 Indians win yearly.
- Commonwealth Shared Scholarship: Full tuition + living (£1,347/month) — deadline 9 December 2025. High success for STEM.
- World Changers Scholarship: £5,000 auto-award — nearly all eligible Indians get it (no extra form).
Pro Tip: Apply in next Round 2 (by 17 Dec 2025) — still time for £5K + partial funding. Use HDFC Credila loan for rest.

Likes
- I liked the facility, faculty, Library, Events, Infrastructure (I would tell one of the beautiful campus in UK universities) and quality of course and curriculum
Dislikes
- There is nothing I dislike about the university all was according to my expectation but I would tell the mode of exam was bit challenging for my course and it could vary on courses..
- I have found my accommodation through university living, its a private accommodation and it cost around 530 per month, Facilities include room, own washroom and shared kitchen.
- There are university accommodations too that would be bit more expensive option and you could find thought university official websites.
