University of Bristol, one of the UK's premier Russell Group institutions, has officially unveiled its first international outpost: the Mumbai Enterprise Campus. Set to welcome its inaugural cohort of students in summer 2026 (April 2026), the campus represents a bold fusion of British academic excellence and Mumbai's lively, enthusiastic ecosystem. This development, approved earlier this year (July 2025) by India's University Grants Commission (UGC), not only marks the university's 150th anniversary milestone, but also positions it as the first top-10 UK university to establish a physical presence in India.
The announcement, made during celebrations for the fifth anniversary of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in New Delhi, was met with widespread acclaim from educators, industry leaders, and policymakers. Professor Evelyn Welch, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bristol, received a formal Letter of Intent (LoI) from Vineet Joshi, Secretary of Higher Education and Acting Chairman of the UGC. This was done in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce our intention to create a new campus in Mumbai which marks a pivotal transformation in our 150-year history and a powerful, globally inclusive future we’re proud to build in partnership”- Professor Welch declared at the event.
