Master of Science [M.S] [Law and Society] From Umea University

Studying in this Law and Society programme from Umea University means that the student actively searches for knowledge. The teaching is given through an electronic Learning Management System where the student takes part in lectures and fulfil seminars, quizzes, blogposts, individual written assignments and critically evaluate the production of knowledge. Individual written assignments are the main form for examination. The studies are characterised by a high degree of independent and active search for knowledge, and critical scientific analysis. Students who follow the programme have a guaranteed enrolment in all of the programme courses. This is an international programme with students coming from many countries.

The programme opens up opportunities to work in the public and private sectors as well as in organisations. This refers to both traditional legal professions within the justice system and employments such as legal experts for governments, strategists, analysts, and also work including implementation, assessment or evaluation of law and policies, international work on peace-building, aid and development and human rights, and work within a wide range of regional and national associations or organisations working for human rights and diversity. Also work within the management and governance of the European Union focusing on the complexity of planning and decision-making within the European Union, and within organisations working directly towards the European Union on a central level, are of interest for the target group of this programme.
