Master of Science [M.S] (Molecular Biotechnology)
Field of Study:
$13,500 /Yr
At the University of Sk?vde, we offer a one-year Master?s programme in Molecular Biotechnology were you will use laboratory and computer-based techniques to study and modify genes and proteins. The techniques can be applied within the fields of human and animal health, agriculture and food industry to e.g. identify diseases and genetically engineer plants, cells and animals. In the programme you will also study the structure of genes and proteins as well as the understanding of their function and regulation.
The programme involves in-depth research oriented studies in the areas of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Independent laboratory work is a prominent part of the studies. During the first semester of the Master?s programme you will study advanced courses in biotechnology, molecular biology, biostatistics and bioinformatics and their applications in biotechnology. Advanced laboratory facilities are employed for DNA and protein analyses such as PCR amplification, site-directed mutagenesis, cloning, and protein expression. Computational resources are also used for molecular biological and bioinformatic analysis and database searching. The Molecular Biotechnology 60 ECTS course is delivered by University of Sk?vde.
The programme is concluded with a master degree project work (30 ECTS credits) in the last semester. During the project work, you will expand your theoretical and laboratory knowledge and solve a relevant research problem in Molecular Biology. The project work is performed individually under the direction of supervisors qualified in the field.
After completing the program you can for example work in pharmaceutical companies, in the food industry or at hospitals. You can also continue with PhD studies or other kind of research at governmental and private research laboratories. Students with a Master?s Degree in Molecular Biology have got excellent comments and references from the laboratories where they realized their master project works. Most of these students got international PhD-student positions or other jobs soon after finishing their project work. A survey of programme alumni (former students with a degree in Molecular biology) shows that about 80% have a job related to their education. Of these, over 75% got their job within a year after their graduation.
