TOEFL MyBest Score (also called superscore) combines your best section scores from multiple TOEFL iBT attempts into one report. As of January 21, 2026, TOEFL has moved to a new 1–6 scoring scale. Your score report now shows both your test-day scores and your MyBest scores together.

Over 13,000 institutions in 160+ countries accept TOEFL scores. This article covers what MyBest scores are, how they are calculated, what changed in 2026, and what Indian students need to know before sending scores.

TOEFL MyBest Score 2026

What is TOEFL MyBest Score?

TOEFL MyBest Score is your best possible combined score across all your TOEFL iBT attempts. It picks the highest score from each section — Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing — from different test dates and combines them into one overall score.

For example:

  • Test 1: Reading 5, Listening 4, Speaking 4.5, Writing 4
  • Test 2: Reading 4.5, Listening 5, Speaking 5, Writing 4.5
  • MyBest Score: Reading 5 + Listening 5 + Speaking 5 + Writing 4.5

This score is automatically included in every official TOEFL score report. You do not need to request it separately.

What Changed in January 2026?

TOEFL made a major scoring change in 2026. Here is what is different now.

As of January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT moved from the old 0–120 scale to a new 1–6 scale (in half-point steps). This new scale aligns with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Key changes:

  • You now get 4 section scores + one overall score, all on the 1–6 scale.
  • The overall score = average of all 4 sections, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
    • Example: If your average is 5.25, your overall score = 5.5
  • For a 2-year transition period, your report will also show a comparable score on the 0–120 scale.

How MyBest Scores Work With the New 1–6 Scale

The TOEFL 2026 updates in scoring affect how MyBest scores are shown on your report.

  • If your latest test was taken on the new 1–6 scale, your MyBest score section will convert older 0–120 scores to the 1–6 scale for comparison.
  • If your latest test was taken on the old 0–120 scale, your MyBest score section will only show 0–120 scores.

Your score report shows both — your selected test date scores and your MyBest scores — side by side.

4.5 86+
4 72+
3.5 58+

How Long Are TOEFL Scores Valid?

TOEFL score validity matters when planning your applications.

  • TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years from your test date.
  • Your MyBest scores are drawn from all valid attempts within this 2-year window.
  • Once a score expires, it is no longer included in your MyBest score.

How to Send Your MyBest Scores to Universities

Sending TOEFL scores is straightforward. Here is what you need to know.

  • Your TOEFL test fee includes up to 4 free score reports sent to institutions.
  • You can add recipients through your ETS account until 10 PM on the day before your test.
  • Additional score reports cost INR 2,300 per institution.
  • Score delivery time depends on the method:
    • ETS Data Manager: 4–8 business days
    • Server feeds: 8–10 business days
    • Postal mail: 10–12 business days + mailing time

Important: If you choose to send scores to any institution before the test, you cannot request a score review for the Writing or Speaking sections.

Do All Universities Accept MyBest Scores?

Not every university accepts MyBest scores. This is a critical point for Indian students.

  • ETS sends MyBest scores automatically on every official score report.
  • However, each institution decides whether to use MyBest scores or only single-test scores.
  • There are no passing or failing scores set by ETS — each university sets its own requirements.
  • Always check directly with the university to confirm if they accept MyBest scores.

TOEFL MyBest Score automatically combines your best section scores from multiple attempts and is included in every official score report. With the new 1–6 scale effective from January 2026, your report now shows scores in a format aligned with CEFR. Always confirm with your target university whether they accept MyBest scores, as acceptance varies by institution.

FAQs

Ques. Can I choose which test attempt to send as my MyBest score?

Ans. No. MyBest scores are calculated automatically by ETS. They pick the highest section score from all your valid attempts. You cannot manually select which scores to include.

Ques. Will universities see all my TOEFL attempts when I send scores?

Ans. No. When you send a score report, institutions only see the scores from the specific test date you selected. They do not see all your attempts unless you send multiple reports.

Ques. If I took TOEFL before January 2026, will my old scores be converted to the new 1–6 scale?

Ans. Yes, but only in the MyBest score section of a new score report. ETS will convert your old 0–120 section scores to the 1–6 scale for comparison. Your original scores remain unchanged.

Ques. How many times can I take TOEFL to improve my MyBest score?

Ans. You can take TOEFL iBT as many times as you want. However, you must wait at least 3 days between attempts. All valid scores within 2 years count toward your MyBest score.

Ques. Is MyBest score the same as superscore for Indian students applying to US universities?

Ans. Yes. MyBest score is ETS's official term for superscore. Many top US universities, including those popular among Indian students, accept it — but always verify with the specific university's admissions page.
