What Students Say
Likes
- The college is nestled between two medical private hospitals and a government hospital within walking distance.
- Good inflow of patients providing appropriate exposure of students to actual clinical work
Dislikes
- They are a bit stingy on the dental materials. So anytime you muddle up or down something that would waste materials, be ready to get an earful of buy few of your own materials.
- Network and wifi are a bit iffy, although it's been told that it's been looked after.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very much clinically oriented unlike most colleges which may try to make you read more. It is because of the number of patients. This has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage being more clinical exposure and a real-world experience, but the disadvantage being that you may read a tad bit less than your fellow batchmates in other colleges. But you do make up in clinical experience.
Fees and Financial Aid
It is a NAAC A+ accredited college with the fees of 4 lakhs yearly. Hostel is optional with a good amount of PGs and places for rent around the college. Scholarship is only there for OBCs and SC and ST category students and not for General category students. Hostel is very good and a cheap place to stay for male students with an yearly fee of 45000 and around 2500-3000 monthly for mess. Female hostels are more expensive comparatively with not that good quality of food there. Two types of hostels are available for both male and female students, those being national and international. National students can avail the international hostel accomodation but for a higher fee of 80000-100000 rupees yearly. Davangere is a developing city but still has the appropriate amount of commodities and utilities for a comfortable stay. The college itself has the appropriate infrastructure to house and teach about 100 students per batch. Politics is a thing in campus as with most colleges but not at the toxic level where students can get harrassed. The relationship between seniors and juniors is good and encouraging. A dedicated anti-ragging squad and a suggestion portal is available both in college and hostel premises. Overall it's a good college to go to.
Campus Life
Students are free to persue a wide range of sports at sport centres located nearby to the college as it doesn't have a dedicated play area but it does have a dedicated sports department. Annually there is an inter-college fest called VIVIDS which includes both sports and cultural activities. Our college teams have participated in zonals and national sport activities and have won medals too. Graduation is usually conducted in the convention hall located behind the college, although the whole event is conducted on the students' expense as the college does not provide any money for that. They may give signs and certificates but not money for the event. However, the graduation is celebrated and participated in by both students as well as staff with much vigour and enthusiasm.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel charges around 45000 for shared room and 52000 for a single room annually in boys hostel. It has a dedicated gym although the equipment are scarce. The registration process is easy and the hostel can house about 600-700 students at a time. The bathrooms are shared and most of them have Indian style toilets. However the cleanliness and sanitation are well maintained. Girls hostel can charge about 80000 rupees without the mess fee included. They have attached bathrooms and both shared and single rooms can be availed. The mess is mandatory and one must pay for it even if they're not availing it. The mess food is less than desirable. Thus most of the female students prefer to stay in rented flats. There are a good many flats and pgs for rent around and near to the college with rents ranging from 5000-7000 a month depending on location and the age of the flat with newer ones costing more. Prices in most cases are however negotiable. It is however important to draft a contract before entering into an agreement. The deposit ranges from 20000-40000 in most cases.
Admission
This college has one of the lowest fee rates as compared to other private colleges. However this doesnot make it a bad college. It's a decent college with good hostel and housing facilities around it with an easily approachable location. And all of these features invited me to take admission to this college. As in other colleges, the student might feel that there is unfairness or unnecessary strictness, however this college is the least toxic and in most parts, encouraging to students. The patient inlow is good with a wide range giving a comprehensive view on problems and training the students effectively so.
Faculty
Some of the staff take it upon their egos whenever, albeit a few times, they are proven wrong. So it is good to be mindful as to what you speak to any of them because they do gossip and they do have your internal marks in their hands. Davangere being a small place, any information gets immediately spread through various channels, especially in this college. So it's better to get the best out of the teachers and not be in either of the good books or bad books for any staff.
Night Life
We have a dedicated cafeteria and decent food quality in the college itself. Boys hostel mess provides adequate quality food that is in many aspects better than those provided in other hostels in Davangere. Girls hostel mess food is however less than desirable. Girls will have to pay the mess fee even if they're not eating their while boys can opt out of the mess and not pay the fee too. Thus most females might prefer to stay out on rent rather than pay for something they're not availing. The library has good amount and range of books, notes and question papers , appropriate for basic as well as advanced studies. It's very much safe to roam, especially for girls, at night as there are shops and hospitals and a good amount of police patrols during that time.
