- Teaching: full girls college with full female teaching staff, with friendly and good natured teachers.
- Environment: The campus is surrounded with green trees and gardens, with a nursery and huge play grounds, and a sitting garden with benches and tables. The fresh atmosphere is to look forward to each morning, especially in winter mornings.
- Activites: The college organizes multiple activities under individual departments. All students participate in behind the scenes and also onstage. The best part is the food treat given to participants and volunteers at the canteen afterwards.
Dislikes
- Lack of Transport Facilities: The college campus is located in the middle of the city, which is a hotspot of commercial and major spots. A lot of students travel daily from different areas of the city, so transportation from college is needed.
- The college relies on UOR for syllabus and semester exam schedules. As a result of this, the syllabus is released very late after 1.5 months, and the exam schedule is also released after much wait and anticipation.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was motivated to choose B.A. English Honors due to it being a topic of my personal interest and my decision was to develop it into a knowledgeable passion and a profitable career. In 2023, a semester system was adopted by UOR, hence the syllabus was changed for every department. The curriculum for B.A. English Honors has a classic approach, with the literary English ages divided into the semester papers. It involves the relevant features, and the classic prominent poets and writers. The curriculum could be modernised in some ways, with sessions on other works and figures of any age. The theory exam paper for Honors finals is of 120 marks, with a mid term test of 30 marks. The final exam is of 3 hours, and three sections. The paper tends to be quite lengthy, however if you're familiar with all the contents of the syllabus, you can manage to score well. Familiarity and consistency is key, which can be achieved through regular attendance.
Fees and Financial Aid
Total Fees is 17000 per year, including tuition fees(12,700) and other fee(4,300). The fee structure is listed in the college website. Other than that, you need to pay 500 rupees as admission fees, and during the semester two exams, you'll be charged around 2.5k rupees, for each semester. I applied for merit based scholarship, availing 20% refund, for scoring over 90%. 50% refund is also available for scoring over 95%
Campus Life
The college life is lively and homey, with multiple occassions to look forward too. Besides national holidays, stalls and shops are organized during Raksha Bhandan and Diwali. The college also celebrates its Foundation Day, Freshers and a welcome party for hostelers. Most of the events take place every month or so, mainly during the first part of the academic year. The campus is well equipped with lecture halls to fit a vast audience and for presentation displays. A cyber room is also provided with WiFi computer systems and is AC equipped. Recreational facilities are open gym, canteen, benched gardens, play grounds and a swimming pool. The list of endless extracurricular activities and sports are mentioned on the website. Each year starts with a ride range of activity clubs (gardening, nature, photography, public speaking), with each club having 2-3 major events yearly. Students are also encouraged to run small businesses and groups, with guidance from college staff and students.
Admission
The eligibility for the course is basic, with 45% required percentage for arts stream, and 60% required percentage for other streams. The application form, the fees, and the opening date slot is all available on the college website, which is reliable and professional. Students can apply online and online fees payment, or visit the college campus, which has special counseling sessions to help choose courses and apply for them. The college has one rule for admissions, which is "first come, first serve". Based on this, students need to apply on time before the seats get booked for each year. Based on the newly launched Semester system, the courses have a 2 semester academic year: This involves semester midterm tests (30 marks), followed by semester final exam (120 marks). This pattern is followed every semester. The admission process is made very simple and easy to the point that one can apply while sitting in their house. The fees can be paid online or in campus, even in installments.
Faculty
Each Department consists of 4 to 6 teachers, with each honors student being assigned four teachers for classes, and B.A. students having 2 teachers for each subjec classes. The teachers are highly educated and qualified with professional levels of qualifications and achievements. All of the teachers of their respective departments are mentioned in the college website, with their qualifications and achievements listed as well. Most of the elder professors have Ph.D degrees. The teachers are all friendly and easy to approach. At the beginning of the first year, each student is assigned a specific teacher from their department as their mentor. The role of mentors is to guide and help their mentees in any situation that requires assistance, be it academic or even personal.
