From what I have heard, VIT Vellore is a money-making machine that accepts donations and admits every kind of student irrespective of their academic profile. The rankings that claim VIT to be better than IITs are baseless and forged. Don’t fall into their trap and talk to the students directly. You will find most of them saying that the professors are underqualified, have no interest in teaching and the academic environment is deteriorating. VIT is just a private university like Amity that is attracting students through fake advertisements and donations.
I would recommend you go for a government institute like DTU instead that has a genuine brand value.
My friend had to choose between DTU CSE and NSIT CSE and eventually went for DTU CSE after considering the below points
The ultimate decision depends on personal factors like distance from home and other inclinations.
DTU released only rank-wise cutoffs so it would be difficult to determine the score necessary to get into DTU. Here are the closing ranks of various B.Tech programs offered at DTU.

The above cutoffs are for the general category first round only. Apart from studying well for JEE Main, make sure you are scoring a decent enough score on Boards also.
Life at DTU is magical and surreal. It’s a rare experience and once you leave the college it will dawn on you how precious your time spent here was. The students live a carefree life here and pursue their passion alongside academics. DTU has given birth to many artists, musicians, singers, orators, dancers, writers, programmers, and athletes. Those who claim DTU students are bookworms have it wrong, as all kinds of talents are cultivated here.
To break the periodical monotony of campus life, frequent fests are held that are enough to increase the spirit tenfold. Engifest is one of the most awaited events in Delhi. The night events are vibrant and the students have the best days of their life during this fest. Another great event is the Literary Fest wherein you will be meeting well-reputed people in poetry, writing, and whatnot.
DTU even organized the Tomatina Fest in the form of a Color Run. You can explore the campus and find many eateries serving delicious food. The main canteen serves the tastiest samosas you have ever eaten while the Mic-mac canteen serves non-veg and Paranthas.
As for the academic life, it’s not very rigorous like other colleges. You can survive by doing self-study during exams. You will also enjoy the happening nightlife here.
Here are a few factors to consider while comparing NIT Surathkal and DTU.
In all, all the 3 institutes you mentioned are prestigious institutes that will offer a plethora of opportunities in shaping your career. What matters is how well you grab the opportunities and climb the success ladder.
There are many reasons why some students prefer CSE at NSIT to CSE at DTU. I have listed some strong reasons below:
If you consider these reasons valid, go for NSIT instead of DTU.
Whether or not you should consider doing an M.Tech from DTU depends on several factors. These factors are-
Even the teaching is not up to the mark.
Even if you wish to go for government jobs after your M.Tech, you will get ample time for your preparation.
For hostel facilities, food, location, library, and study environment, DTU is a good university.
You must consider all these factors before choosing or not choosing DTU for your M.Tech. Overall, DTU is a prestigious and well-known university.
My friend describes her DTU spot round experience as the most surprising and unexpected incident of hers which she is unable to forget to date.
After her average Boards score, she had little hope for selection. Based on the previous cutoff she would get PIE in DTU but she found out that there were only 3 seats for PIE in DTU for GNGNO and they were all opted as the spot round proceeded to 12K. She then thought of getting an MPAE in NSIT although she wasn’t very sure.
After much anticipation and research, she was called up by the committee conducting the spot round and was asked to choose from PCT in DTU or MPAE in NSIT. She happily selected MPAE in NSIT as it was related to Mechanical. After losing all hope she ended up with a good branch and a great institute.
If you have an average rank but want to get a decent branch then DTU is the best option especially if you are looking forward to the excellent exposure offered in Delhi. A plethora of opportunities are available here and you can intern all through the year.
Varanasi, Kharagpur, or Roorkee have very few startups and you won’t be gaining the kind of exposure you will be getting here. Additionally, you can avail the benefits of a metro city like better placement opportunities.
Another major reason why you should choose DTDU over IIT is the diversity of the alumni of DTU. You can find DTU alumni literally everywhere from government, PSUs, and startups to high posts in big private companies. Some go for IAS, and IES or are pursuing MBA or MS abroad. The alumni pool is therefore versatile so you can get inspired to pursue a variety of careers rather than restricting yourself to Engineering only.
However, it’s important to note that the brand value of IITs, their global recognition, flexible curriculum, and excellent faculty pool can never be compared to DTU.
Good is a very generic term. Good in terms of what and which branch? Well, the answer to every criterion and branch is different. However, I have tried my best to cover the major parameters to determine the worth of DTU
How good DTU is, depends on what you are expecting from it!
