AK

Competitive programming has seen a tremendous growth in the NIT Jamshedpur campus over the years. Low academic pressure and quality students are the main reason behind this development.

The students of NIT Jamshedpur perform well in Codechef’s long challenges. A lot of students participate in them, and do well. Few reach the top 100 as well. The college has also seen an improvement in its performance in ACM ICPC.

The CSE department is improving with the passage of time. Senior-junior interaction within the department is quite healthy. The college holds the annual tech fest by the name of Cognitio. PCON is the programming club of NIT Jamshedpur.Despite all of this, a lot of work remains to be done in Open Source Contribution, Hackathons, etc.

Overall, the coding culture at NIT Jamshedpur is good, and continuously improving.

Will dropping two years for the JEE and getting in NIT Jamshedpur (CSE) affect my placements?

AK

The majority of the companies will not pay attention to your gap years; instead, they will look at your abilities, strengths, and potential. Placements are more about what and how you fare in the four years of your engineering rather than what you did before that.

  • Some of the primary things that most of the top companies lookout for are communication, skills, potential, knowledge of your subject, technical know-how, and your approach towards the work. You should start paying attention and working towards all these factors.
  • You should try to focus and work on the things which are in your control rather than worrying about things that are not in your control.
  • If you have exceptional skills, prove your potential and passion to the recruiter, have the capacity to stay focused under all types of situations.
  • If you feel you are lacking in any particular area, you will have ample time to work on that prior to your recruitment process.

Make the best of this time available to you, take help and guidance from your mentors, speak to your seniors and learn from their experience and there should be no stopping you.

Which branch should I choose, NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy, production, or civil?

GG
Gargi Gupta Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

There are several things you should consider while comparing these branches.

During 2023 placements, 97.29% of students were placed in the Civil branch. Metallurgy students received 100% placements while production students received 97.61% placements.

The salary package stats for these branches are as described below-

NIT Jamshedpur

Out of the three, Metallurgy has the highest placement percentage.

TATA Steel offers good placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur. Other than them, Vedanta, Jindal Steel, Hindalco, and Tata Metaliks are some other companies that offer placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur.

Metallurgy is a good choice for higher studies. Many students from this branch perform really well in GATE exams.

I recommend you consider joining Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur because it offers good future prospects. However, also talk to some seniors from the other branches before making a final decision.

What are the things which need most attention in order to improve the condition of NIT Jamshedpur?

AK
Arun Kumar Posted On : March 7th, 2024
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

To rise up to the level of top engineering institutes in India, NIT Jamshedpur needs to work on its infrastructure, faculty and research initiatives.

The college needs infrastructural development. The CSE labs should be well equipped with the latest hardware and software. The other labs are comparatively in a better position, but the CSE department labs need serious updates.

The college faculty lacks a research oriented temperament. This needs to change, so that research culture is promoted among the students. The right faculty will provide necessary research guidance to the students in various disciplines.

The college needs to take up industry sponsored research projects. By doing so, students will acquire the necessary exposure. Moreover, these industries will facilitate the improvement of research facilities at NIT Jamshedpur.

Despite the limitations of infrastructure and research facilities, the alumni of NIT Jamshedpur have successfully attained high positions in reputed firms over the years. This proves the caliber of the students of this institution.

If NIT Jamshedpur works on these areas, along with the ones mentioned in a previous answer, we can expect to see tremendous growth in this institution in the coming years.

Is it true that NIT Jamshedpur is not famous because of its infrastructure?

MP
Mayank Patel Posted On : September 4th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

Yes, it's true that the deteriorating infrastructure of NIT Jamshedpur is the main reason it's not famous enough. However, there are many other pros that overshadow this flaw which students often overlook while choosing their institute

  • NIT Jamshedpur is located in the midst of a very big industrial area Adityapur which adds to its infrastructure
  • The workload is quite low and the attendance policies aren’t very strict so you have enough time to relax or pursue your passions.
  • Excellent internship opportunities are offered by the Tata group of companies.
  • The institute is surrounded by the lush greenery of Dalma hills which ensures a pleasant climate throughout the year.

Overall, the poor infrastructure can be overlooked if you focus on the positives of the institute.

What is the average package of the production and industrial engineering branch at NIT Jamshedpur?

AC

One of my friends was a former student of this institute, and he was 2015 pass out batch. As per his advice, you would definitely face a difficult time getting success and fulfilling your dream if you opt for Production Engineering.

However, a small number of students get jobs in the core sector after studying this engineering stream. If you are satisfied with the jobs in IT companies, like Infosys, TCS and so on, you can go for this subject.

In the following, a brief overview has been given about the placement facts of this institute.

10 LPA

Average CTC

4 LPA

Lowest CTC

2 LPA

However, my friend has studied Metallurgical Engineering in this institute, but a maximum number of his friends was from Production Engineering Stream. Thereby, the student must act wisely.
