Moreover, the curriculum followed is rigorous and students are expected to maintain a high attendance. The CSE department in particular is very rigid, unlike NIT Jamshedpur which has a laid-back attitude with very lenient professors. It's quite challenging to score high marks at NIT Rourkela CSE especially its Data Structures and Algorithms which is a compulsory course for every branch in the first year. The professors are very passionate and learned so the classroom sessions are quite intuitive. But maintaining a high score may be a problem here so you can go for NIT Jamshedpur.

There is no ‘best’ hostel because every student considers his own hostel better than others because it's the place he spent the best years of his life and gave him precious memories. Also, NIT Rourkela does not have hostels but Halls of Residence. That being said, my sister, an ex-student of NIT Rourkela considered her hall, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw Hall of Residence the best hall in NIT Rourkela.
- This hall is closest to the entrance and is surrounded by lush greenery.
- The hall serves the best food on campus. Mostly students of other halls complain about the quality of food served but here students enjoy their dinner time the most.
- This hall is the most maintained and furnished hall on the campus because of limited borders.
- The hall is the smallest and therefore it's easy to maintain its beauty. You will find a variety of flowers and plants in its garden.
- The boarders of this hall are from diverse courses and departments. This ensures a versatile hostel life. the seniors are there to guide the juniors all the time.
- KMS has the most spacious rooms of all the halls on campus.
- The hall is the perfect place to escape to during extremely hot climates. The tall trees at Central Avenue are a perfect shade.
- The hall is in close proximity to various departments like EC, EE, CS, etc.
Overall, KMS is the best hall of residence in NIT Rourkela that offers a peaceful and serene experience.
How was the placement of ceramic engineering in NIT rourkela?
Ceramic Engineering is one of the least preferred branches in NIT Rourkela because of its limited scope and job opportunities. Moreover, it lacks demand in the country as of now. However, the scenario is slowly improving. Quite a few core companies like Vedant, TRL, OCL, etc visit for placements. Additionally, students of this branch can sit for companies from the IT sector as well as analytics so the opportunities offered in non-core jobs are plentiful.
I asked a senior about the placement scenario and he told me that in his batch, 80% of the students got placed. The highest stipend offered was Rs. 35,000 per month, and the lowest stipend offered was Rs. 7,000 per month. A few major recruiters included Vedanta, Sera, Somani, Jindal Steel, etc. In 2020, the highest package offered was 42 LPA , while the average package offered was 8.75 LPA . These salary packages are improving every year due to increasing demand. Most of the students from core branches got placements, while the rest of the students opt for higher studies.
Overall, the placement of Ceramic engineering at NIT Rourkela is great.
Which is better: IIIT Allahabad or NIT Rourkela?
If you are interested in core CSE, IIIT Allahabad is a better option than NIT Rourkela. It has a great faculty base and offers decent facilities to students. The coding culture of IIIT Allahabad is unparalleled. If you want to learn to code, it will be an ideal choice. From the beginning of the first year, you will study more coding and IT-related subjects at IIITA.
It has a great placement record. According to the recent highlights of IIIT Allahabad placements, students receive an average CTC of INR 61 LPA. The placement average is around 92%.
What is the formula for converting CGPA to percentage in NIT Rourkela?
Earlier, a circular was issued by NIT Rourkela regarding the rule for conversion stating that the institute does not have any rule. However, as per the new rules issued in 2021, The formula for converting CGPA to percentage in NIT Rourkela is percentage = cgpa*10
For instance, if someone has a CGPA of 9.5, then the percentage will be 95%.

Your favorite spot at NIT Rourkela will depend upon your interests and personality-
- People who are into sports love to spend their time in DTS or STS. They love and cherish the floodlight lit moments over there. Gym people love to spend their time in the gym.
- Then there are people who devote all their energy and time into the various clubs at NIT R. Some of these clubs are- MM, Cyborg, FSAE, SAE, Aasra, Synergy, Mavericks, etc.
- The ‘politicians’ of NIT R can always be found in the SAC. These people derive happiness from organizing the NIT R fests and various other events on campus.
- Backpost is the favorite spot of every guy at NIT Rourkela. The food and the lonely walks on the long desolate Backpost road are the best. You can enjoy Manchurian, samosa chaat, and aloo paratha at this spot.
- Couples like to spend their time together in front of CVR/KMS, in the dark lanes of faculty quarters, at the swimming pool after gym hours, on the dark stairs of DTS, or on the rooftop of the BMBT/ Chemical building. I won’t include MN International, because it is outside the NIT Rourkela campus.
Whichever spot you choose among these, the time that you spend with your friends at NIT Rourkela will be the most memorable and these are going to be the best years of your life.

- One among the top 5% of students who opt for a branch change
- Finally, admission to the other branch is limited based on the seats available in the particular branch

When it comes down to making a choice between institutes it is better to think point-wise before coming to a decision. Everyone wants a good institute to study in which has great academics and also has great placements along with extracurricular activities.
BITS Goa would be the better option here only if there’s no financial problem. NIT Rourkela is also one of the best NITs, but when it comes to CSE department BITS will take the lead here. BITS Pilani or the Goa campus would be more preferable over NIT Rourkela.
