How are placements for EEE at BIT Mesra, and does the big electrical MNC visit the campus?
The placements for EEE at BIT Mesra differ according to the year. However, they are not as good as they were a decade ago. Since the advent of GATE for the recruitment process of PSUs, they have stopped recruiting students from the campus.
A wide range of companies allows BIT Mesra EEE students to sit for the placement process-
- Coders are offered packages from Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Direct-I, etc.
- Freescale offers jobs to those who are good at core electronics.
- TATA Steel, Maruti, Mahindra, L&T, Trident, Mitsubishi, Orient, etc. offer positions to those who are good at core electrical.
- EXl, Mu-sigma, Stellium, etc. recruit students with good analytical skills.
Unless you are passionate about coding, as a EEE student, it is unlikely for you to be good at it, that is too good enough to beat a CSE/IT candidate. Also, EEE at BIT Mesra is negligent towards electronics. Therefore, in reality, only the last two categories are left for EEE students.
Thus, as a EEE student at BIT Mesra, you can get placed in the core electrical companies or companies like EXE, Stellium, etc. But if you wish to go for core electronics or coding, you will have to strengthen your knowledge and skills in these domains, all by yourself. What is the admission process for BIT Mesra?
Here is the admission process for B.Tech programs at BIT Mesra-
- For Indian Students- BIT Mesra intakes students based on their AIR in JEE Mains, through CSAB/JoSAA counseling. Some of the B.Tech Biotech seats are also filled through NEET(UG)/ ICAR AIEEA(UG) scores.
- For NRI/OCI/ Foreign Nationals(FN)- They are given admission based on their class 12th marks/ marks obtained in an equivalent qualifying exam.

Shree K Nayar is an alumnus of the EEE-1984 batch at BIT Mesra Ranchi, he is known for his work in the fields of computer vision, computer graphics, and computational cameras.
Currently, he is working as a T.C. Chang Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he leads the Vision and Graphics Center and is the head of the Computer Vision Laboratory (CAVE), which develops advanced computer vision systems. He has won numerous awards, honors, and other grants for his work, which include NSF grants, a fellow of the 'David and Lucile Packard Foundation (Packard as in Hewlett Packard), many awards for teaching and scientific excellence.
Nayar has received several awards for his best paper for his scientific publications and other great achievements.

The CGPA conversion at BIT Mesra is as usual as it is calculated by some simple arithmetic calculations. At the time of Convocation:

To convert your CGPA into a percentage just multiply your CGPA by 10. For example, 8.34 then in % it will be 8.34*10=83.4

It’s better to pursue a BTech in BIT Mesra than at Thapar University owing to a number of reasons
- BIT Mesra has no Management Quota so the quality of the crowd is much better than at Thapar University where any kind of student can get admission by just paying money.
- Single rooms are provided for second-year boys which gives them a high level of privacy.
- The CSE branch here is very competitive and students work hard to stay at the top.
- BIT Mesra is well-known for its excellent coding culture and almost all CSE and IT students are involved in coding or development.
- BIT Mesra has an excellent placement scenario and some of the top recruiters included Hashed In, Persistent Systems, Cognizant, Daffodil Software, Genpact, etc.

Are BIT Mesra and BIT Lalpur the same or different?
BIT Mesra is the main campus situated in Mesra, Ranchi. The Lalpur campus is an extension that deals with several other selected courses like BCA, MCA, MIT, MBA, IMCA and IMBA. The Lalpur campus is located at the Lalpur Chowk, Ranchi.

BIT Lalpur is an extended campus of BIT Mesra. It offers only a selected course. In Undergraduate program Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and in Postgraduate Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Application (MCA), M.Sc degrees are offered.
Therefore, both the campuses are different from each other located at different locations. Both of them have their own recruiters and placement cell.

One of my friends chose CSE at BIT Mesra over IT at IIIT Allahabad. However, he regretted his decision and after a month, got admission into IIIT Allahabad IT through the CSAB spot round.
BIT Mesra has a huge campus, however, its student intake is much higher as compared to IIIT Allahabad. Even in terms of location, Allahabad is a better choice than Mesra.
In terms of placements, the average package for BIT CSE stood at INR 19.27 LPA 2022. At IIIT Allahabad, the average package for B.Tech stood at INR 30.68 LPA during the same year.
The course fee is also much more affordable at IIIT Allahabad. The total course fee for B.Tech IT from IIIT Allahabad is INR 8,44,700, while at BIT, the B.Tech CSE course fee is INR 13,04,500 (does not include the hostel fees at both).
Thus, I would suggest you choose IT at IIIT Allahabad over CSE at BIT Mesra.
How are BIT Mesra’s CSE branch placements? What is the average package of the CSE branch?
BIT Mesra has a relatively good placement in the CSE Branch. Many recruiters visit the company every year for a 6 months internship program and a full-time job. Does BIT Mesra provide exposure to MBA students?
BIT Mesra is a high-regarded institute of engineering well known for its BTech courses in various branches. The institute's ambiance and curriculum are more steered towards engineering and all the other departments are meant for earning money only.
Sadly, BIT Mesra lacks the infrastructure and resources conducive to an MBA program. The recruiters are well aware of this situation and thus rarely do they come here for placements. For a better MBA program, the institute needs to work on personality development and provide better networking.
You will be surprised to know that last year, 7 MBA students at BIT Mesra received only 1 placement offer. So think twice before choosing BIT Mesra for an MBA.
