Can I recover my marks after very bad mid semester examinations to get 8.5+ CGPA in Thapar University?
Yes, you can certainly recover your marks even after a few bad mid-semester exams at Thapar University. One midterm will not affect your overall grades so you can rest your worries. One of my friends scored a 6.3 in his first semester but passed out of college with an 8.74 aggregate GPA. Here are a few tips that might help:
- Stop playing video games completely.
- But some new stationery and find a good company that motivates you to study.
- Make a well-structured timetable for studies and follow it religiously.

I have a few friends at Thapar University, so I can tell you the branch up-gradation procedure at Thapar.
- If you want to update your branch, CGPA is not helpful. But that doesn't mean that you can't update your branch in some way.
- At the end of the first semester, there is a "December exam," which has general PCM plus topics covered in the first semester.
- The institute forms a rank list based on the December examination result. A counseling session for all empty seats in all branches is held based on the ranking list.
- If in the December test two students have the same marks, their JEE rank is considered to resolve the dispute.
In general, one or two students leave each branch, so if you put in the required effort it’s not tough to upgrade your branch.
Can a branch be upgraded in Thapar University Patiala and UIET Chandigarh on the basis of your first year CGPA?
At Thapar University, the branch change does not depend on your CGPA. There is a separate process for the same.
- The 1st year students have to give a December Test by the end of their 1st semester. The syllabus for this test is general class 12 PCM and the subjects covered in the 1st semester.
- A list ranking all the students appearing for this test is made. Based on this list, a counseling session is held to fill in the vacant seats in all the branches.
- In case of a tie, JEE Rank is given preference.

Is a CSE degree from Thapar University worth spending 25 lakhs?
A CSE degree from Thapar University doesn’t cost 25 lakhs. I have a friend from the institute who will soon graduate from the institute. He paid approximately 12 lakhs for four years. Hostel fees are not included. Even with annual increases and hostel fees, it will never reach 25 lakhs.
- CSE from Thapar is worthwhile because they have excellent placements and a welcoming environment. According to the 2020 placement highlights, more than 264 companies visited the placement drive and the highest CTC offered was 43 LPA.
- Also, there are a number of societies in Thapar where you can learn a variety of non-technical skills such as dance, singing, economics (ECON Club), event management, marketing, and design and various events take place throughout the year. This contributes to an individual's overall development.
- Apart from what is included in the syllabus, there are societies that cater to technical learning such as CCS, Microsoft Student Chapter (for CS students, anyone with an interest is welcome to join), IEEE, IETE (for ECE students), and many more for all branches.
