- Do not take any stress and find your own solutions to problems. Even if you want to change your branch, then go ahead with it.
- Make a good connection with seniors. Their experience can guide you for good.
- There are lots of committees in NIT. You can volunteer as much as you can. It will make you learn about them and enhance your personality. But don’t compromise your studies. You can also choose to not be a part of any committee, it solely depends on you.
- Behind the campus area, there is a place called Kota. Whatever you need in your college days as a student you will get here.
- You will find a student organization on the campus. It provides all second-hand materials such as books, scientific calculators, previous year question paper, notes, etc. You can contact them via Facebook or on other social media handles.
- Get your books issued from the library in the early semester. As books will run out. At a time you can only get two books. Students also get up to four books through Book Bank sections.

The institute offers good extracurricular as well. It has more than 21 clubs and committees. Due to the locational advantage, students get decent exposure and facilities.
Which institute should I join, IIIT Naya Raipur or NIT Raipur?
As a student of IIIT Naya Raipur, I will tell you about the facilities provided at my college-
- IIIT Naya Raipur is newly established which means it has a modern infrastructure. The labs and lecture halls are well-equipped with ACs. Electronics labs contain all the necessary hardware and software equipment. Data science labs are good as well. The library is two-floored and contains a wide range of books. The hostel rooms are well-made. Canteen and mess facilities are provided in the hostels.
- The entire campus, including the hostels, canteen area and ground, all are covered by a strong wifi network.
- The curriculum is well-designed and in close alignment with the syllabus of top IITs and IIITs.
- You’ll be studying your branch from the first year itself.
- The institution has special cells developed to make its students prepare for their PG studies.
- There is a provision for special scholarships for the students, based on their performance in semester exams.
- The students from this institution have won several coding, robotics and cultural competitions at various IITs and NITs.
I don’t know much about NIT Raipur, so I can’t compare the two. However, I would suggest you reach out to some seniors from NIT Raipur as well. This will help you establish a clear comparison between the two colleges.
As far as IIIT Naya Raipur is concerned, it is a good institution with modern infrastructure and all the facilities.
I will get NIT Raipur, Puducherry, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Srinagar and Sikkim. Which one should I join?
The answer to this question depends on your personal preferences and expectations from your college-to-be.
If you prioritize infrastructure, NIT Srinagar has one of the most beautiful campuses among all the NITs. On the other hand, NIT Puducherry has a better faculty than all your other options.
Placement-wise, NIT Raipur has the best record among these colleges. However, the infrastructure and faculty of NIT Raipur are below average. But it is a good college for its sports facilities and senior-junior connections. There aren't any cases of ragging on its campus. Also, it offers better connectivity than the other NITs you’ve mentioned.
As for the northeastern NITs that you have mentioned, most people don’t choose them. This is because of lesser connectivity and a lack of overall facilities at them. Their placements aren’t at par with the other NITs. Also, you’ll experience totally different weather and culture over there. So you might face difficulties in adjusting.
Now the choice will also depend upon the branch you are offered at NIT Raipur, NIT Srinagar, and NIT Puducherry. If say, you are offered Biotech or Biomed at NIT Raipur and Civil at NIT Srinagar, without a doubt, go for the second option. Biotech and Biomed at NIT Raipur aren’t good choices.
Why should one be proud for studying in NIT Raipur?
NIT Raipur is among the top technological institutes in the country. It offers excellent academics. The student crowd is brilliant. You will have the opportunity to share lectures with talented students. Each year many students from NIT Raipur score well in competitive examinations such as GATE, GRE, etc.
It has an excellent placement record. NIT Raipur placements 2021 had an average CTC of INR 9.7 LPA. These are some of the reasons that make students of NIT Raipur proud.
Which is better, NIT Raipur or SGSITS?
NIT Raipur is the Institute of National Importance(INI). It provides bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, and basic sciences.
Before 2011-12 there were only 39 NITs in the country but now there are 73 and almost all fall under the MHRD Accreditation.
Major things you need to know about NIT Raipur:
- Education: You've to do it on your own. Yes, good faculty is there to help you in your studies but there will be no spoon-feeding like school.
- Infrastructure: Quite old but okay as now they're undergoing renovation, so many new facilities are available now. The campus runs to an area of about 100 acres. There are 8 hostels with more than 3000 students and each hostel has its own mess.
- Faculty: You will find many senior faculties arrogant and having old age mentality but some of them are very supportive and encouraging.
- Places to hang out: There are a lot of recreational activities here, you'll get to know them once you enroll here. Raipur is a very decent city with wonderful people. It also has a much lower crime rate according to recent times.
As per my friends’ opinion, NIT Raipur would be a much better choice than SGSITS Indore.
Which is better, NIT Raipur or NIT Jamshedpur?

I am currently pursuing 1st year B.tech (CSE) in NIT Raipur. Can I give JEE Mains next year and take admission in another NIT or IIIT?
Yes, you can surely attempt your JEE Mains/Advanced/BITS. Many students do the same. There are (and have been) at least 1 or 2 such students in every batch of NIT Raipur.
But I would advise you not to opt for just any other NIT. Choose an NIT which is at least 5-6 ranks above NIT Raipur. Otherwise, switching to another NIT will prove ineffective. The same goes for IIITs, choose only the old ones.
This is because NIT Raipur offers decent placements for CSE, at par with the NITs of the same stature. So wasting a year for NIT Jamshedpur or NIT Durgapur will be fruitless. If you go for JEE counseling, you’ll have to withdraw from your NIT Raipur seat first. To be on the safe side, go for the counseling only with a score high enough to get you CSE in a better ranking NIT. Otherwise, you might get NIT Raipur once again. This has happened with students in the past.

What is the conversion system from a CGPA to an NIT Raipur percentage?
The institute released an official statement stating that the academic performance of students will be evaluated through CPI/SPI based on a 10-point scale. The CPI will be multiplied by a factor of 10 to obtain a numerical percentage for calculation.
So, the conversion system from a CGPA to an NIT Raipur percentage is *10.
For instance, your CGPA is 7.2. Then your Percentage will be 7.2 *10+72%
