Does the Manipal Institute provide 100% placements?

AG
Alka Gupta Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

No, Manipal Institute of Technology does not have 100% placements. This year the placement percentage was recorded at 75.3% while last year it was 92.9%. None of the branches have 100% placement. But this should not be a demotivating factor because as long as you are willing to work on your dreams, you will succeed.

Branch-wise, the placement percentage of CSE/CCE/IT would be around 95% while for ECE it must be about 80–90%. The placement percentages of other branches are quite low but more than 50%.

Out of the entire branch, around 10% of the students go for higher studies and don’t sit for placements. MIT alumni have been admitted to prestigious foreign universities like Stanford, Berkeley, CMU, and many more. A few opt for off-campus placements while some become entrepreneurs or join their parent's businesses. Some even take a year's drop to prepare for some other exams like IAS, ICS, etc.

In all, MIT has opportunities for everything so you can put your worries to rest and stop focusing on placement figures only.

What is the difference between the CSE and computer and communication engineering courses at the Manipal Institute of Technology?

MS
Medha Sinha Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal University

Here are some key differences between the CSE and Computer and Communication Engineering courses at the Manipal Institute of Technology.

  • CCE comes under the I&CT department so it comprises concepts related to networking and communication along with a few modules of CSE while CSE deals with an algorithmic approach to solving problems and software engineering.
  • CCE is a new branch and its placement scenario is unknown although it has become the 4th most popular branch. CSE is the most preferred branch of MIT Manipal and therefore also has the best placements.

CCE has a lot of courses like Cloud Computing, Big Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision. Specialization in these courses makes you a favorable candidate for placements in a lot of giant tech companies. So both the courses offer excellent job opportunities.

I have to choose between CSE (preferred branch) at MIT Manipal and chemical engineering at NIT Surathkal or BITS Pilani - Goa campus (preferred colleges). What should I choose?

Supriya Sarkar Posted On : May 29th, 2021

The best option for you is to take up an M.Sc. degree at the BITS Pilani Goa campus. The M.Sc. degrees that are offered are Maths, Physics, Economics, Biology, and Chemistry.

Category

CSE at MIT Manipal

Chemical at NIT Surathkal

Chemical at BITS Pilani

Total Fee

17.06 lakhs

5.45 lakh

19.19 lakhs

Companies Visited

Deloitte, Adani, etc.

L&T, ZS, etc.

Deloitte, TCS, Dell, etc.

Highest Package

43.31 LPA

37 LPA

45-54 LPA

Average Package

7.5 LPA

8 LPA

12 LPA

If you are confused about the stream, let me give you a clear idea.

  • In the first year, the students get to know all subjects.
  • They get an opportunity to interact with their seniors from other streams.
  • Eventually, they can opt for the B.E. degree after the first year ends.
  • The most difficult to get is Computer Science as the student is required to maintain a CGPA of 8+ in their first year.

Pros of choosing BITS:

  • Of the three options, BITS Pilani is considered to be the most reputed.
  • Foreign Universities recognize BITS, IITs and some NITs. This will gives you a slightly better chance of getting an MS to admit.
  • The network of BITS alumni is very strong. You can easily get referrals from the top firms for jobs as well as internships.

Cons

  • If you want to opt for Chemical Engineering as your B.E. degree, a CGPA of 5 will be enough but if you want to opt for subjects like Computer Science, you will have to acquire an 8+ CGPA.

Therefore, going for BITS Pilani is concluded as the best choice. One should not decide in haste.

What is it like to attend Manipal Institute Of Technology?

MG
Monica Govind Posted On : September 9th, 2023
M.Tech Industrial Automation and Robotics, Manipal Institute Of Technology (2019)

Everyone has a different yet amazing experience of attending Manipal Institute of Technology. This answer is based on my friend’s experience who recently completed her graduation from the institute. She claimed that the best part of the institute is that it gives you enough freedom to identify yourself and explore your passions. Here are a few highlights of her experience at MIT Manipal

  • She loved staying in her room because the hostel facilities are great and makes occasional trips to beaches too.
  • She gained some amazing experiences that helped groom her personality as a whole.
  • The faculty pool varies from branch to branch but you will find a few good teachers everywhere.
  • The students are expected to have a sense of self-responsibility towards their academics since they have a lot of freedom.
  • The institute has a dedicated club culture with many technical and non-technical clubs catering to all interests.
  • The institute has resources for almost everything from sports to placements.
  • The hostel facilities are at another level with AC rooms. The students have access to high-speed Internet.
  • You need to choose your company wisely as many are involved in drugs and alcohol.
  • The academic workload is average and studying 3-4 days prior to the unit tests and 1–2 weeks before the end semesters is more than enough.
  • Students need to maintain a minimum of 75 % attendance.
  • Saturdays and Sundays are off and weekly three classes per subject.
  • The number of lab sessions weekly depends on your branch and the semester. If you don’t have a lab, then you will have a half day.
  • The time slots are 8–10, 10:30 to 12:30 classes then 2–5 labs, or 8:30 - 11:30 lab then 1–3 pm 3:30–5:30 pm classes.

Hope you have an enriching experience at MIT Manipal too!

I have friends in all three institutes and therefore am the best person to answer this question. From what I heard from them MIT seems to have the best crowd and the following points will help you understand this better

  • MIT has the best-dressed English-speaking crowd. Students from diverse states live and study here, so everyone is fluent in English.
  • The students of MIR are very much involved in extracurriculars, especially sports. They like to party, watch movies, and play sports.

So if you want to make some crazy friends and enjoy your college life to the fullest, MIT is the best choice for you.

How good is the B.Tech information technology course at the Manipal Institute of Technology?

AG
Alka Gupta Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

MIT Manipal BTech Information Technology is decently structured covering concepts related to software, hardware, and networking as well. Although the degree offered is that B.E in IT, the department is called Information and Communication Technology so students have to also study communication courses straight from students of the ECE branch.

I will advise you to take up this course only if you are interested in computers and related stuff because the concepts taught are tough and unless you have an interest in the field you won’t be able to cope with the rigorous curriculum. Here are some additional points you would like to know about the branch

  • Every semester has 5 subjects and 3 labs. The labs carry two credits, unlike other branches where they have 2 labs of 1 credit. So practicals are given a lot of importance.
  •  A good variety of electives are offered making the curriculum flexible.
  • You will have to learn to code if you opt for this branch.
  • The IT branch has 5 subjects only so they can go home earlier than other students and the end-semesters get over two days earlier.
  • There are evaluations every fortnight in the labs, lab sessionals, and quizzes for internals for theory subjects and labs as well which other branches don't.
  • The placement scenario is great because of the immense demand of this branch.

Overall, this branch will fetch you enough opportunities if you are genuinely passionate about it.

Job opportunities – Computer Science and Engineering is one of the trending fields that has ample job opportunities. Even if you opt for instrumentation, eventually you will end up in a software job.

Tagline – The tagline of the institute matters in your abroad studies or the interviews. Since Manipal has a strong alumni base and is one of the oldest and most reputed institutes in India, the credibility of this institute helps to clear interviews with core companies.

Placement – Manipal has had a better placement record in recent years than NIT Silchar.

Environment – The authorities of Manipal ensure a resourceful learning environment for every student.

Faculty – CSE has more highly experienced and qualified faculties at Manipal than NIT

Hence, you can go with the option of CSE in Manipal.

What is the best subject for doing an M.Tech in Manipal Institute of Technology?

KS
Kalyani Shankar Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

The choice of subjects for doing an MTech depends on your inclinations and also your engineering background. In my opinion, the best bet would be Microelectronics or digital electronics and communication.

  • The intake for Microelectronics is limited so your rank needs to be pretty good to increase chances of selection. The intake is more for other branches.
  • The Subjects also almost remain the same with a variation of three subjects and labs.
  • Microelectronics students will be working on cadence and verilog whereas Digital Electronics and Communication students will be working with Matlab. You have the freedom to learn both.

Additionally, there is a branch called the School of Information Science (SOIS) that offers a degree equivalent to an MTech degree which is MS. Its course is at or with industrial trends. The overall curriculum focuses more on lab work than theoretical knowledge. The courses offered here are embedded systems and VLSI digital electronics.

In all, MS offers a better hands-on experience but MTech is a better choice if you want to pursue teaching.

Can you stay off campus at Manipal Institute of Technology, and if yes, how much money will I save?

KS
Kalyani Shankar Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

Yes, students are allowed to stay off-campus from the second year onwards. Let’s compare the expenses of staying on and off-campus at MIT Manipal.

The on-campus hostel fee is about INR 8–10k monthly including mess charges. The mess takes care of all meals throughout the day from breakfast, lunch, and snacks to dinner. The hostel has excellent facilities for water, electricity, internet, etc. Hygiene is ensured by cleaning rooms every 2-3 days.

Now if you stay outside then your rent would be around INR 6-10k depending on the location and size of your apartment. This amount includes your water and electricity expenses too. However, it does not include food so you will have to get it arranged and that would cost you extra money.

So even if you get the best place, you will be saving around 2k per month by staying off-campus. Moreover, you won’t be restricted from following the hostel rules and can do whatever you want. I will therefore recommend you to go for an off-campus stay if you are able to find a good place!
