What is the CUSAT cut off rank for CSE?

MM
Manisha Mishra Posted On : February 12th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Cochin University of Science and Technology (2016)

The cut off marks of CUSAT vary year to year. One of my sisters is an alumnus of CUSAT. As per her experience, there are basically two phases in the admission procedure.

Admission Process:

Given below is a short overview of the admission process at CUSAT.

Rank-wise Allotment:

  • There are three phases in the allotment. Each of them is conducted with a difference of 10-15 days.
  • If you have a rank up to 8000, you may get selected. After the selection, you have an option to drop and change the course.

Direct Allotment:

  • After the seat allotment based on ranks is completed, the direct allotment process starts. Which is similar to the bidding market.
  • The consideration is made as per your rank along with physical presence.
  • The direct allotment process is similar to that of online marketing, and you will be able to see your results on the projector.
  • This process will continue till the vacancies are filled.

You should maintain regular phone contact with the admin panel of CUSAT.

CUSAT Cutoff 2020:

According to the 2020 cutoff trend, the required cutoff at CUSAT campuses for General category students are as follows.

Particular

Thrikkakara Campus

Kuttanadu, Alappuzha

Cutoff

103

678

My sister told me that in 2012, the last rank of CSE was around 12000, through the reservation quota. With this cutoff rank, students usually get admission to the Kuttan campus.

According to student reviews, the Kuttan campus does not have a good infrastructure. There are no compound walls, no bridge; thereby the threat of floods is very constant. Besides, the hostel rates are also very high, and some of the people are arrogant, with no permanent staff.

AB

Choosing between two colleges can be a difficult decision, and it ultimately depends on various factors such as your passion to learn and attain knowledge, personal preferences, career goals, and individual circumstances.

Here are some key points to consider when comparing the B.Tech Computer Science programs at TKM College of Engineering (TKMCE) and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT):

  • Ranking and reputation: CUSAT has been ranked higher than TKMCE in various national and international rankings, such as the NIRF ranking and the QS World University Rankings. However, it's important to note that both colleges have a good reputation in the academic community and offer quality education in the field of computer science.
  • Curriculum and course structure: Both colleges offer a comprehensive curriculum and cover core topics in computer science such as programming languages, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and database management.
  • Faculty and teaching quality: Both colleges have experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. However, the quality of teaching may vary between the two colleges, and it's important to consider factors such as the faculty-student ratio, teaching methods, and student feedback when evaluating the teaching quality.
  • Campus life and facilities: TKMCE is a private college, while CUSAT is a government-owned institution. As a result, campus life and facilities may vary between the two colleges. Factors such as hostel facilities, sports facilities, library, and extracurricular activities may play a role in your decision-making process.
  • Placements and career prospects: Both colleges have a good track record of placements in the field of computer science. However, it's important to research the placement statistics and the types of companies that visit the campus to see which college offers better career prospects for you.

Both TKMCE and CUSAT offer quality B.Tech Computer Science programs, and the decision ultimately depends on your personal preferences and career goals. It's recommended to research and compare the colleges based on the factors mentioned above and make an informed decision.

I am in my fourth year of B.Tech at CUSAT. Here are some tips for freshers starting their first year at this university, based on my personal experience-

  1. Don’t depend on your teachers for everything, strive to learn new things on your own. This will be very helpful for you in the long run.
  2. Go to the university library and explore the book collection over there.
  3. The crowd of CUSAT is very friendly. Make friends with people on campus.
  4. Follow your professors’ guidelines and approach them with your doubts. The faculty of the CSE department is quite helpful.
  5. Share your ideas with others and implement them. Don’t let your innovative ideas go in vain.
  6. Participate in cultural activities on campus.
  7. Learn the local language, explore the local culture, and make friends with some local Keralite students.
  8. Explore the local area, participate in sports, and try to be as active as possible.
  9. Do not get involved in the local politics.

And at the end, the most important advice from my side is, try to enjoy as much as possible. These years won’t come back, so make the most of your stay at CUSAT.

Can l get admission in cusat with a rank 5446?

MS
Mukesh Singh Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech Computer Science, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020)

Admission to CUSAT is based on the rank obtained by the candidate in the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is conducted by the university. The university releases a cutoff rank for each course, which varies depending on factors such as the number of seats available, the difficulty level of the exam, and the number of candidates who appeared for the exam.

Based on past trends, a rank of 5446 may not be sufficient for admission to some of the popular courses such as Computer Science and Engineering or Electronics and Communication Engineering. However, the cutoff rank for each course can vary from year to year, and it's difficult to predict the exact cutoff rank for any given year.

If you have a rank of 5446, it would be suggested that you check the official website of CUSAT for the most up-to-date information on admission criteria and cutoffs for the course you are interested in. You can also consider other options such as participating in the counseling process and exploring alternative courses or universities.

Why is the syllabus of CUSAT University considered to be the most rigorous compared to other universities in Kerala?

SG
Satadru Ghosh Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Studied at Cochin University (2019)

CUSAT is one of the known Universities in Kochi and known for its culture for its strict curriculum and fests and clubs.

Now as you asked for the syllabus particularly, it is much vast and it digs deep into the topic. As per the students here, you have to study more for any topic when compared with other universities.

  • The evaluation process is very strict. You will be required to score at least 45 marks to pass out of 100.
  • Because of this rigorous process, a degree from CUSAT is regarded as more valuable than a degree from other universities.
  • CUSAT cannot be compared with the other universities as it is a scientific University and various researches are going on.

As a national University, it has to keep itself with the level of IITs and NITs. Though, the syllabus is wide in Engineering and evaluation is strict and careless, so marks are hard to come by.

Is there any chance for a student outside Kerala to get in CUSAT?

RP
Raina Parulekar Posted On : April 9th, 2021
PGDM in Marketing & Sales, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2019)

CUSAT has a state quota that offers less or no fees scheme. No student from Kerala is offered normal or payment seats which have fees similar to the NITs. However, being a non-Keralite, you have to score a better rank than most of the Keralites.

  • Entrance to CUSAT is through an All-India Entrance exam. If you score well in the CAT, you will easily get it.
  • Getting a good rank in CUSAT – CAT is not as difficult as JEE Main but depends mainly on speed.
  • If you are a non-Keralite, a rank below 1600 would be good for you to get admission. But, a rank of 2500, may spoil your chances.

CUSATs, NRI quota has a higher admission and semester fee. You will have to appear for the CUSAT-CAT anyway. The ranks might go very low for the NRI quota. Management and sports quota are also viable options if you meet the eligibility norms.

You need to be clear with the course you opt for. If M.Tech is your choice, you should go for GATE and then apply for admission, or else a departmental admission test. In case, counseling has been completed and seats are still vacant, the institution calls for spot admission.

Can I get admission for integrated courses in CUSAT if I have a rank 930?

SP
Sreeja Prasad Posted On : August 9th, 2023
Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2017)

Unless you have some special reservation, your chances of getting admission into the MSc. integrated courses in CUSAT with rank 930 are quite low. The integrated MSc. program was started by CUSAT in 2018. Even with minimum advertising, almost all the seats were filled by students within rank 500 that year.

Only 60 seats are available for this program and each student has to study Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics during the first four semesters. You can choose your specialization for the 5th sem based on your marks in these subjects. If you are planning on appearing for the exam again, I would recommend you to work really hard. In 2018, within rank 200, around 29-30 seats got filled and within rank 500, more than 55 seats got filled. The seats are expected to be filled within rank 200 in the coming years. The exam for B.Tech and integrated MSc. is the same, but you need to register separately for both the programs and the rank list for both is also separate.

Basically, with rank 930 you can not get admission into CUSAT for an integrated MSc. You must maintain a rank lesser than or equal to 200-500 to get an admission without any difficulty.

How many marks do I need to get admission for CUSAT?

SG
Susmita Guho Posted On : August 9th, 2023
B.Tech Computer Science, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2010)

For non-Keralite candidates, to get into CUSAT, you need to secure a minimum of 60%. CUSAT has campuses in Kochi and a remote area of Alappuzha district. For a rank under 2000, you will get admission to the Kochi campus, otherwise, you will get into the Alappuzha campus. I would suggest you work hard and get into the Kochi campus. To get into the Kochi campus, you will have to score a minimum of 60%, and to get a good branch like CSE and Safety, you will have to get more than 75%.
