Should I take Electrical in NIT Kurushetra or Electrical in PEC Chandigarh?

DK
Deepika Kunwar Posted On : May 4th, 2021

If you think statistically, then PEC Chandigarh is better than NIT Kurukshetra. Considering this, the following reasons are listed:

  1. It is a reputed and A-Brand old institute of India, although it was established 100 years back.
  2. As per the NIRF data, the average salary package of this institute is also higher and can be compared with the old IITs.
  3. The growth rate is still undergoing since its infrastructural development had recently started.
  4. The students here get internship opportunities in top MNCs at International locations.
  5. Lastly, the extracurricular activities of this institute are huge.

Placement at PEC= 1.58* NIT Kurukshetra

NIRF Ranking 2020

68

40

Highest CTC

42.5 LPA

17 LPA

Average CTC

Besides, the internship records of this institute can be compared with old IITs. Students of PEC get approximately 169 internship opportunities, of which 24 were pre-placement offers. Many students also get the opportunity to join as a research intern in a renowned foreign university, a tenure of 6 months.

So, if you to take admission in an institute considering your future with an average package of 10 LPA, then it must be noted that the student strength and competition in PEC are less than NIT Kurukshetra.

What are some tips for a student joining PEC Chandigarh?

AD
Aditya Dhar Posted On : May 1st, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

PEC Chandigarh is a good institute for engineering providing several opportunities to students during the course of study. Some tips that may help students joining PEC are stated below in points.

  • There are several orientation programs held which are not so important for students. Only the orientation organized on the first day of your college and the exhibitions of different technical societies is essential.
  • Some students have a tendency to blame the institute for everything. It is advised to not listen to such people as they are utterly demotivating. PEC in itself is a good institute, with some problems in internal administration, but provides several excellent opportunities to students.
  • You should go for the field you are passionate about to move forward and excel in your career. Students least interested in engineering should opt for something else. Here being in an engineering college, learning coding will make a career in the industry as IT.
  • Do not get distracted by any bad habits.
  • Attendance should be maintained in college. It should not be a reason for the detention.
  • Enjoying college life is utterly important. Making friends and memories with them is what students carry forward for the rest of their lives.

These are some of the tips for students joining PEC Chandigarh, which may help them make the best use of their time and resources in the institute, for the betterment of their career.

Should I opt for PEC CSE or NIT Jalandhar CSE?

NK
Nitin Kashyap Posted On : December 3rd, 2022
BTech (Computer Science) from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NITJ)

If you are confused between PEC and Jalandhar for CSE, I would suggest going for NIT Jalandhar. Here you will avail some additional benefits like:

  • More experienced faculty and thereby better teaching quality.

  • The tag of being an NIT student is quite valuable.

  • Students belonging to financially weak strata can get fees relaxation. Exact details can be sought from the official website.

  • Placements are much better at NIT Jalandhar than PEC. The highest package offered at NIT Jalandhar this year was INR 62 LPA while that at PEC was INR 43 LPA

  • NIT Jalandhar had been ranked 52 by the NIRF rankings in 2020, while the PEC Chandigarh had been ranked 68 by the NIRF.

NIT Jalandhar has a lot more to offer than PEC. Also, it’s brand name will help you in the future.

How difficult is to change a branch (from civil to CS) at PEC Chandigarh?

SB
Saurabh Bist Posted On : May 3rd, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

To change the branch from Civil to CS, you should have scored a CGPA of 9.8 or 10 in 1st year. It is not a big deal since the students are out of IIT preparations and you can easily do it. But there must be seats in the CSE branch and there are not too many people who are also opting for branch change.

If you lower your CGPA below 9.5 then it is difficult to get your branch upgraded in PEC. If you are doing only study and overcomes all difficulties or just mugs things up then there is more chance of getting the branch change because CSE students generally get 7-8 CGPA.

You can also try to learn to code like hell while you are still in Civil and then you can surprise everyone by being the best coder ever being in the Civil branch. This will give you an upper hand among the actual CS student during any interview.

How good are the hostels of PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh?

NG
Nitin Gupta Posted On : April 30th, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, (2019)

The hostels of PEC University of Technology are decent in quality, with several factors to consider such as quality of food, wifi availability, quality of rooms, etc.

The points below give a brief overview of the hostels at PEC University of Technology.

  • The entire campus of PEC Chandigarh is provided with high-speed wifi connectivity. There are occasional crashes in connectivity, which are repaired by the institute, but with a little longer time.
  • The hostels in PEC have two and three shared rooms, as there is an increasing number of students in subsequent years. The Shivalik hostel has both kinds of rooms, but the size of rooms with three-shared accommodation is larger.
  • The room facilities in PEC are quite comfortable and so, it is not a problem to stay in shared rooms at the hostel. There is a newly constructed block in Shivalik which would ease the accommodation of students further.
  • The girl’s hostel has three and four sharing rooms, and it is somewhat uncomfortable to stay in those rooms.
  • The overall quality of rooms is decent, as expected from a property which is 50 years old.
  • The quality of food served in the hostels of PEC is not that good. Students can go to the PEC market where several shops sell good quality food. There are quite a number of dhabas in sector 11 too. Students usually manage their living for the first year and then figure out their comfort in it.

This is the overall condition of the hostels in PEC, which is of average quality, but quite good being an old enough property.
