Why is PEC Chandigarh declining?

YR
Yashika Rao Posted On : May 4th, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

PEC Chandigarh is indeed declining these days and you can consider the following reasons for this thought.

  • It is deemed to be University and you should not worry about the syllabus and what is taught in the classes as most of the questions are coming from what is never taught.
  • Teachers are very relaxed here, as the institute had separated from PU. Thereby, institutional politics in recent days are increased.
  • No one from the college administration is worried about the syllabus and what will be taught in the classes. Thus, your technical curiosity starts to fade as you proceed forward to the next semesters.
  • Most students and the teachers also acquired a 100% placement record for granted.
  • It is a technical institute and if you do not have any technical questions and curiosity, it becomes quite hard to endure the study in the core engineering field.

My friend told me that many big corporate companies had overlooked this institute for this decline.

Thus, when an institute is nearby to the NITs, which are growing constantly, it is also important for PEC to improve its student’s quality and the college administration.

For admission to PEC Chandigarh, you need to clear JEE Main and your intermediate exams result will also be taken into consideration. The weightage of JEE and 10+2 is 60% and 40% respectively.

Now, to answer your question, PEC Chandigarh has 4 categories - General, SC, ST, and General PwD. There is no specific OBC category present when cut-offs are considered.

Is civil engineering at NIT, Kurukshetra better than CSE (computer science and engineering) at PEC University of Technology?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

It's difficult to choose one between NIT Kurukshetra Civil and OEC Chandigarh CSE because both branches are different with diverse scopes and opportunities. You will have to consider a lot of parameters while choosing one of these

Personally I will suggest you opt for the CS branch unless you have any specific inclination towards civil engineering or any other branch. The excellent placements of this branch are not the only reason I am suggesting you go for it. The courses taught are rather easy and can be covered through self-study which may not be possible for Civil.

You are aware of the academic situation of most engineering colleges these days. Most professors have no interest in teaching. I believe that if you can get CS in PEC you can also get CS in NIT Kurukshetra. It has a better alumni network so it's a better option than PEC. Civil students will have options like research internships, masters or Ph.D. later, get into IES, etc.

Here is a comparison of a few statistics that might help you further make a well-informed decision.

Parameters

NIT Kurukshetra

PEC

Fees

1.6 Lakhs (BTech first year)

2.07 Lakhs (BTech first year)

Ranking

58 out of 200 in 2023

101 out of 200 in 2023

Highest CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

Rs 64.5 LPA

Average CTC

INR 13.89 LPA

Rs 13.5 LPA

Top Recruiters

ICICI Lombard, HCL Technologies, Microsoft, Adani Group

Microsoft, RBS, Goldman Sachs

In the end, your choice of college won’t matter much but how you spent your 4 years will.

Which is better VIT Chennai or PEC Chandigarh?

KM
Krishna Mathur Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.Tech from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

VIT is better as it has more than 200 companies coming for CSE students. If the student wants to go into a college with better placements or better exposure.

The table shows a brief overview of the institution:

Particulars

PEC Chandigarh

VIT Chennai

Average Salary

Rs. 8-10 lakhs

Rs. 7.25 lakhs

Highest Salary

Rs. 45 lakhs

Rs. 41.6 lakhs

Entrance Criteria

JEE Main

VITEEE

Fees

Rs. 6.39 lakhs

Rs. 4.84-7.8 lakhs

  • The intake of students in VIT is not great as students above the rank of 2000 in VITEEE join some other colleges.
  • VIT has seats for merit up to only 6000 rank holders in CSE. Concluding only one thing that 80% of those 1300 VIT CSE students get through management quota. So, if the student is worthy then they will find themselves humiliated with children who come there through management quota.
  • That's why even if the student gets a lower branch in PEC, take it as PEC is the legacy of notable alumni and will continue to remain.
  • Unless you have a certain inclination towards some branch then do opt for PEC the student will never regret it.

It is not possible to decide your inclination just after completing 12th as there is plenty of knowledge awaiting. When you take a branch that you probably didn’t realize in school also the placements in PEC are nice now it is on par with VIT. Overall, PEC is the potential choice.

Which college is better for electrical, PEC or NIT, Jalandhar??

DV
Devon Victor Posted On : December 8th, 2022
MSc. in Applied Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Warangal (Graduated 2017)

Rather than telling you which college is better let’s discuss some factors you should consider before deciding on your college. These will help you make the best choice.

  • Faculty: Look for the college with the oldest and most experienced faculty. They should encourage you to take upon new challenges in life rather than just teaching.

  • Infrastructure: To ensure that the 4 years you spend in college are worthwhile, proper infrastructure is very important. Applying your knowledge requires laboratories, libraries, and other facilities.

  • Exposure: Choose the college that renders the best exposure through seminars, workshops, guest levy, and technical visits to plants. This is way more necessary than just studying your books.

  • Placements: This is the most crucial factor taken into consideration while choosing your college. Compare the colleges you have in mind for the placement figures. You will get a general idea.

Proper research based on these factors will help you select the right college for you. Moreover, you can also search for alumni of both the mentioned colleges and ask them directly. They will be more than willing to help.
