My sister chose IIT Patna and has been regretting her decision since day one. Despite the good infrastructure, IIT Patna has failed to meet IIT standards in terms of faculties, placement, and cultural environment. Except for the CS branch, the other branches are functioning poorly. 

Go through the following points to understand my stance better

• The faculty is not very passionate and very less qualified. Only a handful of professors hold foreign degrees. The faculty pool sadly does not meet the existing IIT standards.
• The placement scenario sparing the CS branch is very poor. The released statistics are not true and mislead many.
• The institute promotes no cultural activities and IIT Patna was not even among the top 5 in any competition in Inter IIT Cultural Meet. College life is dull and students are very demotivated here. No clubs are there to boost the morale of the students.
• The fest is poorly organized and no proper awards are given out to the winners.
• The institute has not won a single non-CS competition and its reputation is poor.
• Apart from CS, no branches have good ongoing projects or research environments. The students have to retort to CS for research work.

Thus, IIT Patna should only be considered if you get CS, else even NITs are better than IIT Patna. 

As we know, students are rushing to this college due to its distinctive branch change policy, mainly in CSE. If you are one of them, you should score well in your semester exams and try to excel in extracurricular activities. You should also use the resources available at IIT Patna

Here are some points to keep in mind to stand out from others and excel in your grades:

• CSE and EE: You should have a thorough knowledge of programming and online platforms
• Mechanical: You can attend the tutorial session from other sources like YouTube, and sharpen your skills through online courses.
• Civil: You may begin with the study of various tools and study AutoCAD, which opens a wide array of opportunities in the future.

Make use of your time in college and never fail to score good grades

The branch change policy of IIT Patna is very much similar to that of other new IITs except for a few changes. Here, the students change their branch after the 2nd semester. The eligibility criteria for branch change at IIT Patna are as follows 

• You should have CPI greater than or equal to 8.0 to be eligible for branch change 
• All the 1st and 2nd-semester courses should have been cleared in the first attempt.
• In case of a tie, the JEE rank of the applicants will be considered
• The total batch size after all the changes cannot change by more than 10% lower or higher.

IIT Patna invites applications for branch change after 2nd semester and students are ranked on the basis of their CPI. 

The PG programs offered by IIT Patna are decent so it is recommended to do your MTech from here. Here are a few highlights of the program

• The faculty of the PG-level programs are more than adequate and experienced in their respective fields.
• The course structure is challenging and is at par with top IITs like IIT Bombay, NUS, IISc, etc.
•  The final year research project provides great opportunities to explore multiple fields and choose the one that aligns with your career prospects.
• IIT Patna MTech placements are great and during IIT Patna Placements 202286.81% of the M.Tech batch were placed. IIT Patna MTech's average salary stood at INR 14.99 LPA. Top branches like Computer science and engineering, mathematics, computing, VLSI/Embedded systems, and mechanical engineering secured 100% placement rates and the overall placement percentage of MTech was 86.81%.

So, IIT Patna is a great choice for MTech in any field. 

IIT Patna MTech placements recorded 100% placements for the Mathematics and Computing branch this year. The average package for MTech MNC at IIT Patna stood at INR 15 LPA. However, I feel one should look beyond placements while evaluating the worth and credibility of a program. It's good to consider the achievements of the students who have completed the program. That being said, IIT Patna MnC students' achievements have been listed below 

• Many students of this branch got selected for DAAD IIT Master Sandwich Programme
• Some have made major contributions to research as well as in the Industrial area.
• A few get the chance to pursue higher studies from top Foreign and Indian Universities such as the University of Dallas, USA. 
• Some even contribute to the government sector.
• The students of this branch have been securing the highest CPI among all branches of Mtech.

So, it’s best to look at the bigger picture and consider all aspects rather than just considering the placements for choosing a branch.
