M.Tech, as a degree, is a very good choice at Pondicherry University. However, it also depends upon the department you are choosing. Some of the programs such as Nano Science, Data Science, Computer Science, and Architecture are quite great at the institute.
In many cases, students of the university often claim that the placement percentage, unlike other institutes, is lower than usual. Some also say that the peer group at the institute is not that good.
Contrary to what they say, it is not quite true. One of my friends is a recent alumnus of Pondicherry University and is now settled in a top firm. So, if you have the required skills, you can easily get job offers.
There are many students engaged in government and privately funded projects. For academics, Pondicherry University is quite good. However, you will have to look for jobs on your own.
IIT Hyderabad is one of the fastest-growing new IITs that has almost reached the level of older IITs in no time. Its location of being in one of the biggest industrial cities of India plays a big role in its fast-paced development. My sister was a student of the CSP branch (MTech RA) and enlightened me about the placement scenario there. However, she passed out in 2016 so the placement stats are for that year only.
The CSP department of IIT Hyderabad has extremely learned and experienced faculty with a decent placement scenario even better than VLSI.
Considering the improved trend, the placement scenario of CSP at IIT Hyderabad is currently expected to be even better.
Considering the increasing demand for AI, this program is going to be the next big thing. Although it has been launched recently, it seems promising and is becoming one of the most coveted programs offered by IIT Hyderabad.
So the M.Tech (2 years) program in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad is a decent choice given that you are genuinely interested in the field.
One of my friends graduated from JNTUH in Transportation Engineering. Here is his review of the M.Tech courses offered at JNTUH.
According to my friend, it’s better to keep JNTUH as your second preference. Choose Osmania University, if you have an option.
M.Tech has generally pursued research purposes. If you are highly interested in your subject then go for it without any further hesitation. To enhance your knowledge is never a decision that would make you regret it later.
You might even be offered an opportunity to opt for the post of Assistant Professor or Research Assistant. Your B.Tech qualification would suffice the criterion for private companies as a degree in M.Tech is not much of value in the corporate field.
You may opt for this course if you are immensely interested in acquiring a job post as a research assistant, etc. Otherwise, it would merely be a waste of time.
The M.Tech in signal processing offered by IIT Mandi was launched in 2017 and thus is a relatively new branch. This program has been taught in the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE) since August 2017.
The program is designed to give importance to theory and exposure to industry needs.
It consists of two parts
The course work is structured to give solid theoretical foundations and practical, hands-on experience which would enable the student to tackle problems in signal processing, communications, and machine learning holistically.
In order to prepare the students for product development by the end of the first year, courses like Advanced Programming Practicum, Embedded Systems, IoT Systems, and Systems Design are included in the curriculum. In addition to the post-graduate project, these courses familiarize the students with the system design aspects relevant to signal processing, communications, and machine learning. The majority of the faculty is in image processing so the maximum course work is from image processing and very little from communication.
The hostel facilities, however, are quite a disappointment with students getting extremely small double occupancy rooms double in single occupancy rooms. The hostel rooms lack basic amenities like tables, chairs, LAN ports, etc. The first-year students are made to stay on the North campus while most labs and classes are on the South campus. Students have to travel a hilly terrain of 3 km just for attending lab sessions. With all honesty, the placement scenario of this particular specialization is poor. The only advantage of IIT Mandi you will have is the amazing climate and surroundings. Thus, make IIT Mandi your last choice and try to target NITs instead.
IIIT Allahabad offers decent placement opportunities to M.Tech students. During the 2022 placement drive, PG students received an average CTC of INR 19.57 LPA. For IIIT Allahabad placements 2020 and 2021, the average CTC offered to PG students was INR 14.57 LPA and INR 14.45 LPA, respectively. Many top-tier companies take part in the campus recruitment of the institute.
If you plan to specialize in one particular branch related to your graduation branch, you can opt for it. Or, if you are currently working in some organization or have some work experience and there is a demand for a specialist in your organization, you can opt for it.
If you are not yet placed and still pursuing your B.Tech, I would suggest you first go for the placements and then give it a thought. NIT Trichy is a reputed institute and offers good academics. In fact, it is among the top NITs.
It depends on your future plan. If you want to teach, then go for an integrated Ph.D. degree instead of an MTech from any institute. It will save you 1 year.
However, if you want a career in research then do a Mtech first and then go for your Ph.D. You can get your Ph.D. from other better institutes like some IIT.
An integrated Ph.D. will take a minimum of 6 years to complete. Getting the award depends a lot on your performance and your mentor. If your mentor is happy with your performance, you can get your degree done within 5 years too.
On the other hand, doing an M.Tech and a Ph.D. separately will take at least 7 years.
So, consider all these factors and choose what’s best for you.
The best part about IET Lucknow is the freedom it offers to the students. The college does not intend to restrict students to only academics. There is no pressure for attendance. However, some faculties might give weightage to attendance. So, if you can balance the academics and extracurricular, you can negotiate with them. Never give a chance to your teachers to point down your mistakes.
Consider the below-mentioned points for this.
Overall, the classes are skippable in IET Lucknow if you have a decent image in front of faculties. Currently, compulsory attendance of 60% as per the rules of the new director is required, but 50% attendance will let you sit in exams.
