Is the CGC Landran a good college to do a B.Tech in CSE?

AR
Arun Raina Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College (2017)

CGC Landran is an average college for CSE but it is better than any other colleges in the North. The good thing about CSE is that you don’t need a reputed college to learn about CSE. You can learn the required skills with a laptop. If you have the required skill set, you also do not have to worry about placements.

The table below has a brief overview of the CSE program at CGC Landran.

Average CTC

4-4.5 LPA

Course Fee

3.62 lakhs

Discussed below are a few of the factors that you should know about CGC Landran.

Placements: CGC Landran has a pretty decent placement record and it is improving every year. Top companies like Google and Microsoft visit the campus for recruitments. After pursuing B.Tech in CSE, you will have a definite chance to get placed in one of the IT companies.

TPP Classes: The newly launched training and placement programs help the students to become industry-ready. Though you will be charged an extra amount of Rs. 4500 but these skills like programming, aptitude, and soft skills will help you in final placements.

Fee: In comparison to other colleges, the fee of CGC Landran is much less. Thus, it really doesn’t hurt your pocket much to study in this college.

Attendance:

  • The 75% attendance criteria is criticized among the students a lot but if you really want to learn and grow, you must attend the class. The college follows 75% attendance criteria mandatory.
  • The attendance is calculated every fortnight. And if you have less than 75% attendance in the first fortnight then you can maintain an equivalent balance in the next fortnight.

Practicals:

  • CGC only prepares students for the PTU examination. In the class, only the PTU syllabus is covered. Teachers do not have good knowledge of projects.
  • If you want to learn about projects, you have to join various project clubs on campus.

So, overall the college helps its students a lot. Every college has some advantages and disadvantages and so does this college. But at the same time, you will get the best out of this college if you study hard.

There are a plethora of parameters based on which one can decide which college is better than the other. But at the same time, your choices and your priorities also matter to decide which college you will opt for. You might not get all the fulfillments in the college checklist but you can set your priorities. Coming onto the question, if you are willing to decide among CGC Landran and CCET Chandigarh, you are comparing two very different colleges.

Let’s decide based on different criteria:

Placement: If you are one among the students to whom the ultimate goal is to get into a reputed company after Engineering, CGC Landran will be the right choice. You know why? Go through the placement records given below:

Placement Stats

CGC Landran

CCET Chandigarh

Highest Package

35 Lakhs

12 Lakhs

Average Package

7 Lakhs

4.07 Lakhs

The placement stats of CGC Landran is way better than CCET Chandigarh.

If you want the stamp of Panjab University on your degree, then you can opt for CCET Chandigarh. Although, CCET will not provide you with any extra benefits/royalties like Panjab University. Instead of CCET, UIET is a better choice.

From the study point of view, there is not much difference between these two colleges.

For CSE, which is better, UIET Chandigarh or CGC Landran?

AB
Amulya Bhalla Posted On : March 29th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

When it comes to choosing a college for pursuing CSE, it's important to consider the quality of education, the faculty, the campus, and most importantly, the crowd that you'll be studying with. It would be suggested that UIET Chandigarh is a better option than CGC Landran for pursuing CSE based on the following reasons:

  • UIET admits students through JEE Main rank, which means that you'll be studying with like-minded and intellectual individuals who have secured a good rank in the entrance exam. This ensures that you'll be studying in a crowd that is serious about their education and will motivate you to do your best as well.
  • The faculty at UIET is better as compared to CGC Landran, which is crucial when it comes to the quality of education you'll be receiving. The professors at UIET are knowledgeable and experienced in their respective fields, which means that you'll be getting the best possible guidance throughout your course.
  • UIET has a PU tag, which means that it is affiliated with Punjab University, one of the top universities in India. This ensures that you'll be receiving a quality education that is recognized throughout the country.
  • UIET is located in the main city of Chandigarh, which is a major advantage as you'll have easy access to various resources such as libraries, cafes, and other places that can help you unwind after a long day of studying.
  • While the campus may not be as beautiful as some other colleges in the area, being located on the south campus of Panjab University, the overall experience and the grooming you'll receive at UIET make it a better option for pursuing CSE.

If you're looking for a college to pursue CSE, UIET Chandigarh is a better option than CGC Landran, as it offers a better crowd, better faculty, and an overall better experience.

Why is CGC Landran not giving admissions in CSE to students with less than 75% in 12?

KS
Kamala Sharma Posted On : April 20th, 2021
B.Tech CSE from Chandigarh Group of Colleges (2018)

This is basically the admission criteria for management quota which is relaxed after some time. They could even ask for donations later. You can secure admission to CGC Landran in the following two methods:

  • You can appear for the JEE after which most students apply for the PTU Counseling system. This method mainly ensures that you get admission to the college without donations. This is only if PTU allows a seat to you in the college of your choice.
  • One of my friends went for admission in CSE in CGC with 67.4% in 10+2 through PTU counseling. My sister was admitted to CSE via PTU too. His profile was 58% in 10+2 with a good JEE Score that was close to 50-60 marks.
  • On the other hand, if you have not appeared for the JEE, you might have to wait for a little while longer. Usually, the college will provide you with admission to CSE themselves and you might not have to donate any money. You can try visiting the college for 2 to 4 weeks after classes have commenced for the first semester.

They are generally on the lookout for admissions and at the start, claim that they have limited seats. They might push you in the direction of mechanical, electronics and IT but in my opinion, you should stick to the field of your choice. The ‘limited seats’ notion is mainly a business gimmick and out to fool people. You will definitely get the branch of your choice. You might have to persevere a little more for it, but it will be in your hands.

TB
Timir Bose Posted On : October 20th, 2020
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (2017)

Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar is ranked in 100-150 band in NIRF 2020 whereas CGC Landran is ranked in 201-250 band in NIRF 2020. Guru Jambheshwar University and CGC Landran both are good engineering colleges at par with industry standards.

  • The cut-off for the same year at CGC Landran was 6,87,300 rank for all India general category students and 10,90,000 for home state students.

Location:

Location wise CGC Landran has an edge over Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar as it is located on outskirts of Chandigarh and Mohali. Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar is also urbanely situated but Chandigarh has better exposure as well as connectivity than Hisar.

Infrastructure:

Both colleges have good campuses and Infrastructure but CGC Landran has better campuses and facilities in terms of sports facilities, computer centres and libraries. Hostels and catering services are not up to that required level in both the Colleges.

Placements:

  • The highest package in CGC Landran was 35 LPA whereas in Guru Jambheshwar University was 6 LPA. But the latter had a better average package of 5 LPA as compared to 3.5 LPA of CGC Landran.

  • The placement percentage of CGC Landran is 100% whereas the placement percentage is 80% for Guru Jambheshwar University.

The maximum package offered is greater in CGC Landran but Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar has better average placement package. Also, the placement at CGC Landran is 100% compared to 80% in Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar as CGC students are hired by mass recruiters too which lowers the average placement package. Ranking of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar is better than CGC Landran.

If all facts are combined then it is equally good to choose both the institutes for CS Engineering. The feature which should be given the most priority is the decision of prospective students.
