How did your IPM AT IIM Rohtak go?
Below is the experience of an IIM Rohtak student who did his IPMAT during covid.
It was always going to be difficult to conduct a fair online exam in this day and age, but IIM Rohtak took the exam to an all-time low. The following are the highlights of the exam:
The online exam was conducted in an 'open book' format, using Google Forms and no effort was made to proctor the exam - which means students could have their friends and family assist them using Google, WhatsApp, Zoom, and any other technology they could think of. After 45 minutes, the form would not even submit itself. To pass the test, the student had to maintain their integrity.
Every student had the same paper, in the same order. It's no surprise that within minutes of the exam starting, WhatsApp and Facebook groups were flooded with questions and answers. Most students are required to submit answers that they have simply copied from the internet.
Some of the questions were difficult to answer. This is especially true when the paper setters fail to include the accompanying diagram to logical reasoning questions.
What's the admission process at IIM Rohtak and what’s the percentile required?
Since its inception in 2009, IIM Rohtak has steadily grown into a premier B-School, achieving numerous milestones.
The primary goal of IIM Rohtak's admission process is to identify qualified candidates for admission in each category, namely General, NC-OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PWD/DAP. The Institute acknowledges the possibility of a student body that is generalized toward men and graduates with degrees in engineering and other related fields, even though merit is the primary factor. Therefore, it works to ensure that opportunities for various subject streams and genders are more evenly distributed. The strategy used at IIM Rohtak includes properly recognizing academic consistency.
IIM Rohtak's new admissions procedure consists of the following five steps considering that the institute is no longer a CAP participant:
- Stage I: IIM Rohtak Online Registration for PGP Admission.
- Stage II: It consists of a written analysis test (WAT) and a personal interview (PI)
- Stage III: The Final Selection List is based on CAT, WAT, and PI scores, as well as Diversity.
- Stage IV: Provisional Admission Offer for the PGP program.
- Stage V: Reporting to the PGP program.
The CAT Total Score will be given a weight of 45%. (Scaled to 100). WAT and PI scores will be given a weight of 35%. Furthermore, candidates will be given a 20% weighting for academic diversity and gender diversity.
What CAT percentile should I aim to get for IIM Rohtak?
To get admission to IIM Rohtak, you need to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management. The CAT exam is held annually, usually in November or December. The CAT score is the primary factor considered for admission to all IIMs, including IIM Rohtak. However, the CAT percentile that you need to aim for IIM Rohtak admission may vary depending on the competition level and the number of available seats.
Here are some estimates of CAT percentile cutoffs for admission to IIM Rohtak in recent years:
- In 2021, the CAT cutoff percentile for the General category was 97.5.
- In 2020, the CAT cutoff percentile for the General category was 97.5.
- In 2019, the CAT cutoff percentile for the General category was 95.
It is important to note that the cutoffs can change from year to year depending on various factors such as the number of applicants, difficulty level of the exam, and the number of available seats. Therefore, it is recommended to aim for a CAT percentile above 97.5 to increase your chances of getting admission to IIM Rohtak. However, achieving a higher percentile will give you a better chance of securing a seat in the institute.
What is the placement scenario at VGSoM (IIT Kharagpur) when compared with new IIMs like Ranchi, Raipur, Kashipur, Trichy, Udaipur, and Rhotak?
In 2022, the VGSOM IIT Kharagpur business school achieved a 100% placement rate for its students. All 97 students who registered for the placement process were successfully placed in jobs. The highest salary package offered during the placement process was 31.98 LPA, while the average package was 19.36 LPA. These strong placement results demonstrate the success of VGSOM IIT Kharagpur in preparing its students for the job market and the value that employers place on its graduates.
Here is an individual's experience at IIT Roorkee, which was one in which he received admission to the institute in 2004 after having eight years of work experience. At that time, the management programs at IITs were relatively new and placements were not as strong as they are now. Despite this, he decided to attend IITR and focus on their studies and enjoying their MBA experience, rather than worrying about job prospects. As a result, he performed well academically and was able to secure an okay job in the IT industry. Through hard work and dedication, he was able to triple his salary within four years and work on projects in various countries. Ultimately, he retired in 2010 to travel and is still doing so seven years later. He believes that both IITs and new IIMs are good options for business education and that it ultimately depends on the individual's goals and priorities. He advises focusing on academics and enjoying the experience, as a job will eventually be obtained.

What is your opinion on the IPM course introduced by IIM Rohtak?
The IPM course introduced by IIM Rohtak is rigid and flexible at the same time. The course was started by IIM Indore and Rohtak is following the former’s footsteps. Like its Indore counterpart, 2020 is the first batch that will be experimented on.
If we come down to the process certain merits and so-called ‘demerits’ can be put forward.
- This program is new and has not found its foothold yet which resulted in some hesitation from the first batch of IIM Indore.
- Before you compare, ask yourself some questions like, if you have received the offer and if you have then what you are planning to do with it. There are high prospects but as the program is still new it would take some time to turn up on the map.
- It is not mature to bring up the fact that the institute is in Haryana. There is an IIT in Kharagpur and Kanpur and they attract tons of candidates during admission.
The reports of the average placement drive of 2020 show that the highest package offered was as high as INR 24 LPA. It’s pretty certain the figures would see an increase in the future. The placements may be as good as, and/or even better than the current package for PGP.
List your priorities and decide accordingly. You will be using a lot of money and will get little or no return on investment (ROI). The IIM brand name will serve you for the better.
Can you become a professor in IIMs or IITs after FPM from new IIMs, like Rohtak or Raipur?
Becoming a professor from the new IIMs is definitely possible but rare. The FPM program offered at the new IIMs has varied peers some being freshers while some with Masters from foreign universities.
The following things matter when selecting an Assistant Professor in a new IIM
- Your experience
- The quality of your papers
The chances are rare because most of the new IIMs have professors who have done Ph.D. from older IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta. Ph.D. is a program that totally depends on your performance and research. The initial years focus solely on research training and cannot be enough to make you eligible for faculty positions.
So your chances are rare but not null.
IIM Rohtak just came up with ePGPx. Will there be placement assistance?
The goal of Executive Programs is to enhance the already existing skills of working professionals. The worth of the main Executive Program of any given institute depends on the following 2 factors
- Fees: The total fee of the Executive Program at IIM Rohtak is ?7.86 Lakhs (Total Fees). The same programs of other top B Schools range from 3-5 lakhs depending on no. of subjects and level of engagement. So considering the high fees, IIM Rohtak’s Executive Program is not worth it.
- Ranking: The reputation of the B School you are planning to pursue the Executive Program from is very crucial. The PGP from lower-ranked B Schools have very less value in comparison to older IIMs. Unfortunately, IIM Rohtak is nowhere near the top 10 IIMs so their Executive Programs fare much below in terms of brand value.
Due to the above reasons the Executive Programs at IIM Rohtak have no placement assistance at all.
Which IIM among Rohtak, Raipur and Kashipur is better?
If a college's ranking is important to you, there are thousands of ranking websites online that can tell you where these institutions stand in relation to one another. If you believe infrastructure is what you are looking for, you will find everything you need to finish the course in all of these. The faculty at IIM Kashipur is among the best in the country. If you are willing to listen, they have a lot to share from their experience and subject knowledge.
What distinguishes a good institute is the amount of time you spend there as well as the type of exposure and opportunities you receive. IIM Kashipur has a large number of academic clubs, including those focused on finance, marketing, human resources, analytics, and other subjects. These clubs are always working to plan workshops, competitions, and guest lectures from experts in their fields. To ensure you don't miss any opportunities, they will constantly keep you informed about the various competitions that take place in other business schools.
IPMAT IIM Rohtak considers past academic records as well but I have got 70% in my 12th boards with extremely low marks in maths. Do I have a chance to get into IIM Rohtak? If yes, then how?
IIM Rohtak offers admission based on your potential and not solely on the marks previously obtained. When the interviewer enquires of you regarding your low percentage, you should honestly answer him/her.
Instead of faltering and mumbling your answers you should confidently speak out your answers. Even if you would be at fault your interviewer would let it slide given that you are not doubtful of your own self. Try not to use any falsehood around them and notably maintain your calm.
One can be of the view that your personality impresses your interviewers. In some cases, this view could be true. Maintain your calm and confidence in yourself and you will crack the interview.
