NIT Patna is situated on the South bank of river Ganges behind Gandhi Ghat, one of the most important and sacred places of Patna. The institute provides hostel facilities to its students as well as teachers. Its campus spreads across 60 acres and offers a serene river view. Here are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at NIT Patna

• Enjoy your college life to the fullest because these are the best years of your life. However, don’t compromise on your studies in the process.
• Don’t come with the mindset of Biharis being dangerous or unsafe in any way. In fact, you will feel even safer than in Delhi here.
• Maintain good relationships with your seniors and alumni. The alumni network here is elaborate with some of them being in big firms like IOCL, NTPC, BPCL, BARC, ONGC, Adani, L&T, Reliance, TATA, Google, Adobe, Amazon, Snapdeal, Armed forces, IIMs, etc Maintain a CGPA more than 8 to avail the best placements
• Either join the Student Activities Center ( SAC) or join NCC,  if you want to join the armed forces in the future.
• Involve yourself in sports as NIT Patna has excellent sports facilities. 
• If you have enough time on your hands, then prepare for competitive exams like GATE, CAT, UPSC, etc.
• Don’t get exploited by some faculty who will use your skills in their own projects
• Don’t park your bike if you are in a hostel.
• The last entry time for hostels is 10 pm so make sure to arrive before the deadline.
• Join Sankalp, wherein you get to teach slum kids. This will add value to your resume and also give you a kind of self-satisfaction.

A friend told me that NIT Patna has some of the best hostels in the country. There are a total of 5 hostels out of which 3 are new while 2 are old. five hostels, out of which three are newly built.

The amazing thing is that all three newly built hostels look almost the same, both from the outside and inside.

• Brahmaputra Hostel ( for boys)

• Kosi Hostel (for boys)

The other hostels are Bagmati Hostel (for boys), Sone Hostel (for boys), and Ganga Hostel (for girls). These look similar to the hostels shown above. 

My brother has spent quite a few days in NIT Patna and shared a few cons of the institute 

• The size of the campus is very small, around 50–60 acres. But the bright side to this is that students can commute to and fro their classes quickly
• First-year students are taught in very small classrooms and they might feel congested.
• The hostel facility was average but some new hostels are on the way.
• The administrative tasks can take a toll on you as the paperwork is very slow.
• There is a lot of construction work in and around the campus so this might be a major source of distraction.
• Core branches offer very limited job opportunities but this situation is similar in almost all engineering colleges.

However, these small flaws of the institute don’t affect the academics very much and can be easily overlooked. The friendly seniors and cooperative faculty make your life here smooth and fun.

Here are some parameters, based on which you can assess where NIT Hamirpur stands in comparison to NIT Raipur or NIT Patna-

• Rankings- NIT Hamirpur is ranked 127th in the 2023 NIRF Rankings for Indian Engineering Colleges. NIT Raipur is ranked 70th and NIT Patna is ranked 56th. 

• Campus life, infrastructure and facilities- NIT Hamirpur provides the best infrastructure, campus life and facilities to its students. In this respect, it is better than any other college. However, you will face some inconveniences during the rainy season.

• Placements - The placements are decent at NIT Hamirpur. It does lag behind NIT Jaipur and Allahabad due to its remote location. But overall, it is at par with the NITs of northern and eastern regions. The list of top recruiters at NIT Hamirpur includes- Paytm, Capgemini, Accenture, Deloitte, CRED, Stryker Corporation and Philips among others. 

• Alumni Network - The alumni from NIT Hamirpur work for World leaders like Nvidia- the biggest graphic processor unit maker.

Thus, NIT Hamirpur is a good institution. It is at par with NIT Raipur and NIT Patna.
