Which is better IMI Delhi or Great Lakes Chennai?

AB

Economics honours from University of Delhi (Graduated 2017)

In my opinion, IMI Delhi is a better option than Great Lakes, Chennai. Let’s discuss some key highlights of the institute

  • Location: The campus is located in Qutub Institutional Area, Next to IIT, and is in the vicinity of the outer ring road. It’s located within city limits and is surrounded by Central Government offices.
  • Infrastructure: The campus comprises both, Academic Blocks and Hostels for Second Years The hostels for first years are at a distance of 2 km from the campus and there is a facility of late night shuttle bus service to and fro at the institute and hostel.
  • Faculty & curriculum: IMI has experienced faculty for all domains be it Finance, Marketing, HR, or Operations. The additional visiting faculty adds to the already competent faculty pool and provides diverse experience and exposure.
  • Placements: The placements are pretty decent with students getting desired roles during the summer internships. From my friends, a marketing major was offered an internship at J Walter Thompson India. Another HR major got an internship offer from Capgemini HR Consulting.
  • Alumni: Established in 1981, the institute enjoys an excellent reputation and legacy and thereby boasts of an elaborate alumni network.

All these factors combined make IMI Delhi a very good option over Great Lakes.

Is it for sure that I will get a call from Great Lakes, Chennai at 97.78 percentile in CMAT and having 17 months of experience?

Great Lakes Chennai admissions are done on a variety of factors and CMAT scores and work experience alone cannot determine your admission chances. The students are evaluated in a holistic manner on the basis of the following parameters

  • profile
  • academic records in school
  • extra-curricular involvement
  • social service activities
  • admission write-ups

Your high percentile of 97.78 increases your chances of admission but does not guarantee it.

Which one should be chosen: Great Lakes Chennai PGP or ISB Mohali PGP?

I will begin by clarifying that ISB is a single Institute with two campuses and not separate institutes. Anyone who has options for ISB and Great Lakes should go for ISB without any second thoughts.

ISB is better than Great Lakes in almost every aspect be it academics, reputation, faculty, research opportunities, and placement. If you don’t believe me, contact the alumni of both and you will realize the difference.

Which one is better SIBM Bangalore or Great Lakes Chennai PGDM?

Studied at Great Lakes Institute of Management

Both SIBM Bangalore and Great Lakes Chennai are equally good when it comes to fees, faculty, and Return Of Investment (ROI).

Though, SIBM Bangalore is the better choice due to the greater number of companies visiting the campus during placement.

The table below gives a brief overview of the two institutes.

Particulars

SIBM Bangalore

Great Lakes Chennai

Established in

2008

2004

Total Fees for 2 years

14.5 lakhs

11.81 lakhs

Average Cut-off

80 percentile (CAT)

90 percentile (CMAT)

Placement Percentage

89-90%

Highest CTC

21.5 LPA

Average CTC

9.79 LPA

8-13 LPA

Placement (Winner- SIBM Bangalore):

  • Bangalore is the greatest IT hub, having companies of every scale, small to large. But SIBM Bangalore has seen some additional small scale IT companies visiting the campus.
  • Great Lakes Chennai is also a decent institute for MBA and PGDM, in terms of placement. But some of the companies limit their recruitment to Bangalore colleges only.
  • Accenture, Deloitte, Wipro, etc are some of the large-scale companies which recruit in both the colleges. However, in SIBM Bangalore, there are more chances of Tier 2 companies.

Other highlights:

  • For freshers and candidates with less work experience (less than 2 years), SIBM Bangalore is always preferred.
  • The brand name of Symbiosis adds to the fame and candidates get preference in companies worldwide.

Therefore, in terms of factors related to exposure and a greater number of companies in placement, SIBM Bangalore is definitely the better choice.

Which one is better: a PGDM-BKFS at TAPMI or a PGDM at Great Lakes Institute of Management?

HC
Himani Chaudhary Posted On : March 9th, 2023
Delhi-ite who studied in Chennai and working in Mumbai.

If you're interested in TAPMI's BFSI-oriented course, it would be a good idea to speak with seniors of that particular program for more information. However, if you're considering TAPMI's PGDM program in general, it is a pretty good option.

Great Lakes Chennai's PGDM program is relatively new, but it's already picking up momentum. The average salary package for its second batch was around 8.75 lakhs, and companies like Coke, Airtel, Lava, Snapdeal, Amazon, HDFC, Axis, Kotak, and many others recruited from the program.

It's important to note that placements are just one aspect to consider when selecting a program. Great Lakes Chennai also boasts some of the best faculty and infrastructure in India, making it a great choice for those seeking a high-quality education.

Overall, it's important to research and considers all aspects of a program when deciding where to pursue your MBA, including the course offerings, faculty, infrastructure, and placement opportunities.

Is the Great Lakes Chennai's PGPM programme good for people from the manufacturing sector?

PT

The primary purpose for the establishment of this institute was to further the career of managers already having 3-4 years of work experience. Great Lakes' one-year program has gained popularity because of its strong yet well-structured curriculum that helps people get back to the same domain in which they were working.

That being said if you have worked in the manufacturing sector, Great Lakes will render a plethora of opportunities to upgrade your career in the same domain. Its excellent location in Chennai, the Detroit of Asia attracts the best recruiters some of the major ones being Ashok Leyland, Daimler India, Isuzu, SPIC, Murugappa, TVS, The Amalgamation group etc.

In case you fail to secure any core manufacturing jobs, you will find plentiful opportunities as a consultant in any of the big IT firms.

Which is better, IIM Amritsar or Great Lakes Chennai PGDM?

BM
Barkha Manral Posted On : January 19th, 2023
MBA in General Management, Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (Graduated 2021)

I think Great Lakes is a better option than IIM Amritsar. The following points support my opinion

  • Establishment: IIM Amritsar is a baby IIM established in 2015 and has yet to make its mark in the industry. Great Lakes is a relatively old college with a better campus and curriculum.
  • Faculty: The faculty at Great Lamar’s is more stable and varied while the faculty at IIM Amritsar comprises mostly visiting faculty.
  • Brand Name: Despite being an IIM, IIM Amritsar lacks credibility while Great Lakes enjoys a great brand name.
  • Industry exposure: Despite being an IIM, IIM Amritsar lacks the necessary industry exposure which is great in the part of the Great Lakes.
  • Placements: The placement scenario at Great Lakes is much better than that of Amritsar. So if your ultimate goal is to get a high-paying job, Great Lakes should be your choice.

Although my opinion is strongly against IIM Amritsar, it’s only because it’s a new IIM. Any older IIM is a better choice than IIT. MBA is all about investment and ROI which is great in the case of older IIMs. I have still seen many people choose Amritsar over IIT just because of the IIM tag. So do what your heart says.

Is Great Lakes Gurgaon PGPM as good as Chennai campus in terms of education and placements?

GM
Gaurav Mukharjee Posted On : June 2nd, 2022
Great Lakes Institute of Management

There is hardly any difference between Great Lakes Gurgaon and Chennai campus in terms of education and placements. Key faculty is shared for the campuses. Placement is combined. Facilities, resources, and exposure are also similar on both campuses.

The Great Lakes Gurgaon campus also has some additional benefits as it is located near the corporate hub of Delhi NCR. Students get good exposure to diverse industries such as E-Commerce, Analytics, Internet Business, etc. They also get the chance to do live projects with corporates in NCR.

How is the placement scenario in great lakes Chennai for PGPM course? Does the whole batch with 400 people gets placed?

DD
Diya Dhyawala Posted On : July 11th, 2023
PGPM from Great Lakes Institute of Management (India) (Graduated 2018)

One can easily get an idea about the placement scenario of any School from the official website. But, these figures are sometimes inflated so you cannot rely on them. The best way is to contact someone who is in the current batch, a recent pass-out, or an alumni. Only they can give you the real picture of the institute.

Great Lakes Chennai PGDM placements are decent and around 90–95% of the batch gets placed. If you are still adamant about looking up the statistics, Great Lakes Chennai placements for the PGDM program have been tabulated below

Which should one choose: IIM Ranchi PGDMHR or Great Lakes Institute of Management PGPM?

AA
Aishwarya Anand Posted On : January 19th, 2023
PGPM from Great Lakes Institute of Management (India) (Graduated 2018)

To decide between IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program and the Great Lakes PGPM program, consider the following questions:

  • Do you want to build your career in HR?
  • Do you have work experience of more than 3 years?

If your answer to the first question is "Yes" and your answer to the second question is "No," you should consider IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program. If your answer to the first question is "No" and your answer to the second question is "Yes," you should consider Great Lakes PGPM.

If both answers are "Yes," you should reconsider whether you really want to change careers after 3 years of work experience. If you still want to pursue HR, IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program would be a good option. If both answers are "No," you should consider Great Lakes PGPM, as it has a better return on investment due to its shorter duration.
