Is an IT background required for a planning profile in SCM during NITIE placements?

SV
Sonal Verma Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

No, you do not necessarily need an IT Background to apply in Supply Chain Management (SCM) at NITIE. In fact, your previous work profile is quite independent.

Students who have worked in the Manufacturing or Automobile sector may have a slight advantage over you. Otherwise, everyone is at the same level. Engineering branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil also enjoy an advantage. Graduates from Electronics and CSE easily get through the Planning role.

Once admitted to NITIE, SCM will be taught to you in a very well manner and any company will offer you an SCM profile because of NITIE brand value.

You don’t compulsorily have to be from the IT sector for a planning profile in SCM during NITIE placements.

It all actually depends on your interest. As both of these options are completely different and two different areas of interest. You must choose what you find interesting. There would not be any conflict between these two institutes over the placement stats as both of them will give good placements to their students. Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes.

Parameters NITIE IISc
Average CTC 20 LPA 10 LPA
Highest CTC 43 LPA 40 LPA
Major recruiters ETLI, EY, IDFC First HP, Dell, Intel

If you are interested in tough work that is more challenging or research and development-oriented, you should choose IISc. As in the world of Nanoscience, IISc is the country’s most renowned institution. And if you are more inclined towards managerial work, then it would be better to go to NITIE.

The GATE score to get admission in NITIE is not a topic to disclose publicly but for an idea, a student from the general category got admission in the NITIE Mumbai.

He has attained an IE in the first round. The cut-off back then was around 760+.

Now a student with the above data can calculate his/her chances of getting admission to the Institute. It's better to set a target according to last year's cut-off and prepare accordingly.

Is the NITIE Mumbai course work hectic than any IIT?

SB
Shahana Burman Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

I got to know from one of my friends that the schedule is quite normal and the students who complain about the hectic schedule are the ones who are themselves responsible for it. The schedule is hectic or not, it depends completely on you.

  • The classes schedule of the college is fixed. The timings are from 9 AM to 5 PM or 6 PM sometimes.
  • You will be a bit busy with attending lectures at the college from morning to evening.
  • Moreover, the college will provide many chances that are beneficial for you. It’s up to you whether to use them and help yourself grow or waste them doing nothing.

Besides this, the time schedule for the college is absolutely normal. It is always recommended to try and grab as many opportunities as you can and invest your spare time in as many productive activities as you can.

Which is a better management course, PGDIE from NITIE Mumbai or Masters of Management from IISC Bangalore?

AS
Anupama Srivastava Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Having to know some people from both these institutes, I can say that both have the sand management course but still, there's a lot of difference between the mindset of the two.

  • The curriculum remains the same but the change comes in the teaching method.
  • IISc, as usual, has a research-oriented way of teaching.
  • Whereas NITIE focuses more on the logical and decision-making skills from the managerial point of view.
  • Both are different in the placement domain as there's a marginal difference between the average packages.
  • Also, IISc is a tier 2 college unlike NITIE.
Categories PGDIE at NITIE Mumbai MMS at IISc Bangalore
Course Fee 14.63 lakh 3.18 lakh
Highest CTC 28 LPA 26 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 12-18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, ZS Associates, IBM, HP, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Dell, TCS, etc.

So ultimately it is your decision to choose between these two colleges. Assess every criteria before finalizing one. As this will shape your career further.

How is the placement scenario of CS/IT graduates in NITIE (PGDIE)? Do they get supply chain and operations profile?

NS
Neeti Sengar Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

Yes absolutely, people from CS & IT background do get placed in the supply chain department. My brother is a former student of NITIE and currently working as a Supply chain manager at Amazon.

As a matter of fact, if you look at the profiling of any batch, more than 60% of students are from IT background and most of the roles in NITIE are for supply chain management.

Moreover, companies are not distinct on this basis because not many students anyways have experience in the supply chain & secondly it's more based on knowledge you possess and how you present yourself on the day of the interview.

And most importantly, work experience is just one element of your overall profile. There are other elements like internships, Weekend projects, College grades, certifications completed and other achievements etc.

Why do GATE toppers choose NITIE Mumbai over IITs and NITs?

YK
Yash Kapoor Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studies Mechanical Engineering at NIT Durgapur (2021)

Students essentially opt for NITIE Mumbai since it provides better job prospects. The reasons can vary from one place to another. Here are things you should take into account before taking any decision:

  1. NITIE Mumbai is not a good institute because it produces managers across the industry by illicit means.
  2. Besides, it has been found that the institute often misleads students about the placement stats they have established over time. It is one reason why several GATE rankers get lured in for admission purposes.
  3. The degree you receive will unfortunately not be having a vital demand industrially. These institutes often also maintain a high fee structure and simultaneously employ low-quality faculty members. It is one of the major drawbacks the institute is part of.
  4. Sometimes, several fresh graduates find it essentially hard to secure jobs worth 10,000 to 15,000 per month.

This whole scenario has resulted in untimed deception for GATE aspirants.
