Which is better for CS/ECE NIT Hamirpur, NIT Jalandhar, IIIT Kancheepuram, IIIT Jabalpur ?

First, I would like you to address your branch preference. Choosing a branch should be the top most priority. CSE and ECE are quite different from one another. Although IITs/IIITs/NITs do offer a branch change option, it is quite difficult to get it. So I would suggest you make up your mind on which branch truly interests you.

Now coming to the colleges. Choose IIIT Jabalpur for a CSE branch. This is because IIITs offer good placements, curriculum and culture in this branch. Even IIIT Kancheepuram is a good option for CSE. But the distance from home and food form an integral part of this decision-making. Assuming you aren’t from South India, the lifestyle and eating habits might be difficult to adapt to. As far as NIT Hamirpur and NIT Jalandhar are concerned, choose them if you are planning for an ECE degree. They are good colleges as well.

First prioritize your branch and then choose your college among these four. I won’t suggest you go by college rankings. Basically, choose your branch first and then decide the best college for yourself.

IIITs were set up as premier institutions to meet the global requirement in the field of CS and IT. MHRD has set up 4 IIITs which are at Gwalior, Allahabad, Jabalpur, and Kanchipuram. Some facts of both the colleges are given below:

IIITDM Jabalpur

  • IIITDMJ is deemed a university and is in collaboration with JAPAN.
  • Every year a few students are selected to visit JAPAN during their 3rd year.
  • A management committee of this consortium supports IIITDMJ.
  • Under the exchange program, faculty from both countries visit each other.
  • The college offers a specialized course and has only 4 branches i.e CSE, ECE, MECH, DESIGN.

IIITM Gwalior:

  • The research projects are sponsored by bodies like DRDO, MCIT, DRDE, MHRD etc.
  • Collaborations with other institutes include Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, National Brain Research Centre, Gurgaon, ICTP, Italy, and many more.

Which is better: IIITDM Jabalpur or IIITM Gwalior (in all aspects)?

Firstly, there is no doubt that IIITMG has a better reputation, placement record, and facilities as it is nearly 8 years older than IIITDMJ. But this is only one side of the coin and most people don't see the other side of the coin. Let me show you these in broader aspects

Talking about placements, IIITM G may have a better placement record but we also must not forget that we are comparing graduates with undergraduates. We are comparing a student with a dual degree to a student with a single degree and hence this comparison is not fair.

Coming to the dual degree, you must think twice before enrolling in a dual degree course. 2 cases may are:

  • First case: If you want to earn as soon as you are graduated, but a dual degree doesn't give you this freedom and you are forced to study for an extra 1 year before you start with a job. If you get a whooping package then it's fine otherwise it is just a waste of time.
  • Second Case: You want to go for further studies. In this case, it may seem that a dual degree is a blessing but if you think about it, then you may think that you are limiting your chance of doing a master's from any other and better college. For example, if someone graduated from a 4-year program and did his master's from IIT-B then it's a win-win situation for him.
  • Third Case: If you want to go for an MBA, then you are saving yourself from appearing in CAT and GMAT, but this is the same as above. You are losing your chance to get an MBA degree from IIMs.

I will advise you to have a deep discussion with your parents, go through some articles and then decide which one is good for you.

What should I prefer: IT at NIT Raipur or a CS at IIIT Jabalpur?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : September 12th, 2023

Nowadays, engineering aspirants give more importance to the brand and tag of the college rather than the academic ambiance they offer. Like sheep in a herd, they flock to colleagues that have higher rankings and give them a tag to boast about in the process, They forget that for education, the tag does not matter.

IIITs are the most neglected institutes in this process. IIITs like Jabalpur, Allahabad, Kancheepuram, and Gwalior have been set up by MHRD that focus primarily on studies in the IT sector, unlike NITs that cater to various branches of engineering. IIITs thus have a CS-oriented culture, curriculum, and opportunities. This may not be the case for NITs that have many branches.

Although NIT Raipur is older than IIIT Jabalpur, it's not at par with IIIT Jabalpur at least in terms of its Computer Science education. IIIT Jabalpur has much better placements for the CSE department than the IT branch of NIT Raipur. Moreover, IIIT Jabalpur has collaboration with Universities in Japan, unlike NIT Raipur.

Here is a brief comparative analysis of both institutes

Particulars

NIT Raipur

HBTU

Fees

INR 1.41 Lakhs (BTech 1st Year Fees)

INR 1.59 Lakhs (BTech 1st Year Fees)

Highest CTC

-

INR 82 LPA

Average CTC

INR 10.1 LPA

INR 21.63 LPA

Top Recruiters

Wipro, Capgemini, Infosys, Adobe, Aditya Birla Group etc.

EXL, Flipkart, Jio, JSW, Samsung, TCS, Cred, Cummins, etc.

So, IIIT Jabalpur would be a better option.

Which is a better college for engineering, IIIT Jabalpur or NIT Silchar, and Why?

SG
Sudipta Ghose Posted On : August 25th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

Since you did not mention your branch, I will draw a general comparison between IIIT Jabalpur and NIT Silchar that will help you choose one

  • IIIT Jabalpur offers UG courses under three branches only namely CSE, ECE, and Mechanical while NIT Silchar offers a number of courses in a variety of branches both at UG and PG level.
  • NIT Silchar is an old institute while IIIT Jabalpur is relatively new.
  • IIIT Jabalpur focuses solely on IT courses while NIT Silchar has many diverse courses.
  • NIT Silchar has no international collaborations while IIIT Jabalpur has collaborations with Universities of Japan that offer immense exposure and opportunities.
  • The placement scenario however is the same and in fact last year the highest package at both institutes hovered around INR 44 LPA.
  • Location-wise, Jabalpur gives an edge to NIT Silchar as it has better connectivity and places to explore.

Overall, choosing IIIT Jabalpur with its modern curriculum and infrastructure is more beneficial than going for NIT Silchar.

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 25th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both NIT Silchar as well as IIIT Jabalpur are backed by the Government of India and have similar facilities. The campus, faculty, and alumni network are great in both cases. However, there are some additional parameters in which IIIT Jabalpur fares better making it a more preferable choice. Some of them have been mentioned below

  • Location : Jabalpur enjoys a good location in the heart of the country while NIT Silchar is located remotely in the North-East. Therefore IIIT Jabalpur has better connectivity and exposure.
  • International collaboration: IIIT Jabalpur has ties with Japan resulting in frequent lectures conducted by Japanese faculty and frequent visits to Japan. Such international ties give it an edge over NIT Silchar in the kind of opportunities offered.
  • Clubs: IIIT Jabalpur has several technical, cultural, and sports clubs, constituting the Student Gymkhana that ensures the holistic development of the students.
  • Coding Culture: The institute is known to have an active coding culture that is promoted by many active programming, web development, and graphics designing clubs.

Overall, if you are passionate about academics and research, then go for IIIT Jabalpur but if you want a more vibrant college life choose NIT Silchar.

How is IIITDM Jabalpur for CSE?

RS
Rohan Singh Posted On : March 24th, 2023
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur

If you are considering pursuing CSE at IIITDM Jabalpur, there are a few things you should know. Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • Success in CSE requires your own motivation and hard work. While you will have some support from faculty and seniors, ultimately it will be up to you to put in the effort required to excel in this field.
  • In order to succeed in CSE, you will need some support from people who know more than you. This could include faculty members, seniors, or other professionals in the field.
  • During the first three semesters of your CSE program, you will have common courses with your whole batch. This means that you will be taught physics, manufacturing, aesthetics, and some CSE-related freshman courses.
  • Don't rely solely on your faculty to teach you everything you need to know. While some of them may be great teachers, others may not be as helpful. However, you can always go to their offices and ask them for help with any doubts or questions you may have. Most of them will be happy to help you out.
  • Don't let anyone discourage you from asking for help from a particular teacher. If someone tells you not to approach a certain teacher, ignore them. You are here to learn, and it's important to interact with your teachers and ask them questions.
  • Seniors can be a great source of support and information. They have been through the same program as you and can offer advice and guidance based on their own experiences. Don't hesitate to ask for their help if you need it.
  • You will benefit greatly from learning more about CSE on your own and applying your ideas practically. While you will have some guidance from faculty and seniors, a lot of your learning will happen on your own with your laptop, your friends, and your own curiosity and drive.

Overall, CSE is a great field to pursue, but don't take our word for it. Do your own research about the institute you are considering and make an informed decision about whether it is the right choice for you.

Which will be better, IIIT Guwahati, IIITDM Jabalpur or IIIT Kancheepuram?

SR
Shubham Rathee Posted On : April 29th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (2021)

My brother has just completed his B.tech from IIITDM Jabalpur and some of my friends also studied at the other two institutes. According to their experience and the NAAC Ranking, IIITDM tops among the three of them. The rating considers everything including infrastructure and facilities.

Following are the key points that give IIITDM an edge over the two.

  • Alumni network: IIITDM is the oldest institute having a much larger history and alumni base as compared to IIIT Guwahati, and IIIT Kancheepuram. Whereas the other two institutes might have just 2-3 batches completed.
  • Campus: Knowledge is easily accessible to everyone even you can watch Stanford Lectures from Home. Here also, IIITDM Jabalpur is at advantage. The seniors are very helpful and won’t hesitate to give you a hand.
  • Placements: IIITDM being located in the central part of India, has the advantage of better placements. Even core companies like ISRO and DRDO visit the campus for recruitment.

  • Infrastructure: It is clearly better than IIIT Guwahati, and IIIT Kancheepuram as the latter two are newly established hence lacking some basic facilities for now.

All in all, it is not advisable to rely on the college just for jobs and placements. It is crucial to focus on learning and develop new skills which may come in handy in the future.
