What are the attendance rules in IIT BHU?
In IIT BHU, students are expected to attend all the classes for their respective courses. However, if for some reason students fail to attend all classes, they need to maintain a minimum of 85% attendance. The 85% attendance rule is applicable for theory classes, however, for laboratory classes students are expected to maintain 100% attendance. If any students miss lab class for some emergency they can contact the teacher concerned to make up for it. Students are allowed leave for medical emergencies provided they submit proper documentation. Many professors follow the attendance rule strictly while others may not. To be safe students should maintain a minimum of 85% attendance as the institute takes disciplinary measures for students who fail to do so.

What are the placement details of industrial engineering and management courses at IIT BHU?
The placement data and statistics are not released in public, but few details get somehow leaked by the students in the placement cell.
IIT BHU kicked off its annual placement for 2019, with four international job offers and the highest salary package of INR 1.53 crore per annum. Most of these offers ranged from INR 10 LPA to INR 58.21 LPA. Some of the top recruiters that visited were Google, Uber , Microsoft, Cisco, Goldman Sachs.
Around 1063 students from BTech registered for the placements and out of which 773 students got placements. As per the trends, the department of computer science, electrical engineering, department of Mathematical sciences and electronics engineering maintained a high degree of placements.
Though the placement offering in each branch is growing every year, the highest number of placements were from Mechanical and industrial engineering departments.
The major recruiters of IIT BHU include Maruti, EXL, Wipro, Tata Steel, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, etc. The average package offered was 8.19 lakhs with 109 students placed which is the highest among other streams.
Apart from these firms, students of IIT BHU also grab opportunities for internships in many international universities. The top-notch international universities where students of IIT BHU acquired internships offered were University of Tokyo, University of London, University of New South Wales, Harvard University.
The summer internship program starts at the beginning of May and the duration is around 8 weeks in companies like Samsung, Microsoft, Tata Steel and Bajaj. What is the average package of IIT BHU?
The average package depends upon the branch in which you are studying, and it’s generally more for CSE (Computer Science), MnC (Mathematics and Computing), ECE (Electronics) and EEE (Electrical). This is due to the reason many of the students go for software profile jobs and are being paid high from this branch. This doesn’t mean that other branch students don’t get good placements, many students of other branches are very well placed and as similar as these above branches. The trend of placement in IIT BHU shows students who go for software profile jobs (it doesn’t depend on your branch, almost all students do coding) get good packages.
Now coming to placement statistics, in December 2019, 4 students had got international offers and remaining also got very good placements. Out of 1063 students registered for the placements, 762 got very good placements in the first phase. Also, 172 students had got PPO (Pre-Placement Offer).

Does IIT BHU offer double majors?
Yes, IIT BHU offers double majors in a number of specializations. It has a provision of offering a dual degree at the time of admission. You should choose according to your career plan. M.Tech in Design is a core field of engineering. This branch will be better if you plan on pursuing a Ph.D.
If you want jobs with good salary packages, Industrial Engineering from IIT BHU will be better. Scop of Industrial Engineering is pretty good in India. Students of this branch get job opportunities from sectors like delivery/logistic companies, eCommerce sites, textile industries, FMCG, and manufacturing. IIT BHU offers a median CTC of around INR 15.1 LPA to the students of this branch.
Is the mining branch in IIT BHU interesting?
The mining branch in IIT BHU is one of the ancillary branches(along with ceramics and Pharmaceutical Engineering) which most students often refrain from. Besides, the curriculum is very tough and it requires a humongous effort to get a decent CGPA in the mining branch.

Furthermore, the branch of Mining Engineering in India is not fully in consonance with the curriculum taught in foreign universities. However, it is pertinent to note that the branch does have considerable scope in many Coal and Mining companies.

Is IIT BHU good in research?
At IIT BHU, research culture isn’t that active. Research culture mostly depends on students and peer groups. Most students on campus are usually focused on placements. In a batch, you will find only a handful of people who are interested in research and are actively pursuing it.

Is the mechanical department of IIT (BHU) comparable to IIT-K?
As a student of IIT BHU, I can confidently claim that our Mechanical Engineering department is as good as that of the top IITs. Even though IIT BHU received the IIT status much later, in 2012, it was originally founded in 1919 as the Benares Engineering College. Thus, it has a legacy much older than IIT Kanpur.
IIT BHU has a strong focus on research and publication. The IIT BHU professors have extensive industry and academic experience. Some of the prominent professors from the Mechanical department of IIT BHU are:
