Can I get into IIM A/B/C or XLRI or SCMHRD?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Top management institutes in India like IIMs, XLRI, and SCMHRD require a combination of academic performance, entrance exam scores, work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in selection rounds like Personal Interviews and Group discussions.

Top IIMs (A, B, C) have CAT cutoff percentiles of 99 or higher. XLRI's XAT cutoff is over 95 percentile, and SCMHRD's SNAP threshold is approximately 97 percentile. These cutoffs can change from year to year depending on factors including the number of applications and exam difficulty.

Academic performance is crucial but not the primary criterion for admittance. Admissions committees seek well-rounded applicants with leadership potential, great communication skills, and a demonstrated passion for the field. Thus, if an applicant excels in other areas, they can still get into a prestigious B-school despite poorer academics.

Top B-schools are competitive and require outstanding academic performance, high entrance exam scores, and strong applications.

I have taken a year drop after the 12th. Am I eligible to apply for the PGDBA program offered by IIM Calcutta?

PGDBA in Business Analytics & Data Science, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta

That is perfectly acceptable. This should not be an issue. You are eligible to apply for IIM Calcutta's PGDBA program even if you have taken a year drop after the 12th. The only thing you should be prepared for is a valid reason for taking a year's leave.

Your response must be convincing, and you must not appear to have wasted your gap year. Whatever the reason, you must be prepared to provide a confident response. You can be comfortable knowing that it will have no effect on your selection process.

What are the chances of converting a WL90 (open category) call from IIM Calcutta?

SP

The chances of converting a WL90 call from IIM Calcutta are unpredictable. It changes every year. The Waitlist Movement of 2022 is given below.

IIM Calcutta Waitlist Movement 2022

Sanctioned intake

480

Shortlisted

1852

Seats filled

480

IIM Calcutta sees a bit more waitlist movement as compared to IIM Ahmedabad and Bangalore. This happens because of the overlap of offers from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. Generally, a student with offers from IIM-A + IIM-C or IIM-A + IIM-B prefers IIM-A.

Is it possible for me (GEM candidate) to get into IIM Calcutta via Mgmt. Quota as far as the Academic Session 2023-25 is concerned? I have scored 52%ile in CAT 2022.

None of the top B schools have management quotas, and even if they do, the curriculum is so rigorous and difficult that they won't be able to survive in the first few terms and will be expelled for poor performance in the first few years, resulting in a total waste of money.

I have scored above 90 in class 10th but I got 79.5 % in class 12th. My college record is decent. Do I stand a good chance at IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore or IIM Calcutta?

If your CAT score is above 99.90 percentile, you will have a decent chance of getting an interview call from IIM Calcutta.

IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore assign good weight to past academic records for the interview shortlist. You need to have a consistently good record throughout your 10th, 12th, and graduation to get a call from IIMA and B. Having relevant work experience of a minimum of 2 years is also important if you are targeting IIMB.
