IIT Kharagpur does not offer Research Internships to outside students. 

But eight weeks of summer practical training (at the end of 3rd Year of B Tech / B.S, 4th Year of M Tech Dual Degree, 4th Year of 5 year Integrated MSc Course, 1st year of M.Tech) is a compulsory part of the curriculum at IIT Kharagpur, carrying 2/4 credits.

• The 2023 batch placement drive at IIT KGP concluded with 1600 offers, out of which, 45 were international offers. 
• The highest package offered during the 2023 placement drive was INR 2.6 CPA.
• The MBA placement 2023 had the highest CTC reaching INR 43.37 LPA, an average CTC of INR 22.13 LPA.

I am a second year BSc. Applied Geology student at IIT Kharagpur. The geology faculty at IITKGP are highly qualified and possess outstanding knowledge in their subject area.

The teachers in our department are very helpful, talented and student-friendly. They clear our doubts whenever needed. The best part about them is that they emphasise on practical learning and discussions in the classroom lectures. The Geology curriculum at IIT KGP is the best. Semester exams are difficult but it is easy if the student regularly attends classes and follows the professors’ advice.

Overall, the BSc Applied Geology faculty is quite good at IIT Kharagpur. 

Both IITS are well-reputed and provide the best knowledge to their students. However, if we 

look at the statistics, IIT Bombay is rated higher than IIT Kharagpur by various ranking authorities.

• As per the NIRF Ranking 2023, IIT Bombay is ranked 3rd and IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th among top engineering colleges in India.
• In the QS Asia University Ranking 2023, IIT Bombay has recorded the 40th, and IIT Kharagpur has recorded the 61st position.
• In the QS World University Ranking 2023, IIT Bombay is at 172nd, and IIT Kharagpur is at 270th position.
