According to some of the people I know from BIT Mesra, it is not comparable to Thapar. You can compare BIT Mesra with reputed NITs like NIT Warangal or Trichy.
Here are some important aspects of the institute.
The table below gives a brief comparison of the institutes.
Category |
BIT Mesra |
Thapar University |
Average CTC |
11.76 LPA |
43 LPA |
Highest CTC |
79.76 LPA |
7 LPA |
Going by the above points it is safe to say BIT Mesra has an edge over Thapar University.
Thapar University does not intake students through donations. Unlike many other private engineering colleges, it does not have fee slabs. All its students are given admission based on their respective JEE Mains score, and all of them have to pay the same fee.
I have a few friends from both Thapar University and LNM-IIT Jaipur and based on the reviews I got from them, I will say LNMIIT Jaipur will be a better option. Here are the reasons why.
Hence, LNMIIT is a very good place to pursue CSE, but a college is just a medium and it completely depends on how you can utilize your 4 years in the college. Your success will depend on your hard work and efforts.
You can refer to the complete procedure on the official website of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology University. Here’s what I gathered from one of my friends studying there. The admission process is pretty simple.
It is not necessary for candidates to submit the application form to get admission into the University. You can refer to the information available on the official website of the university to get updates regarding the important dates of the admission process.
You must keep a few things in mind before applying for IEP at Thapar University. First of all, by applying for IEP the total cost for your UG degree will cross 40-50 Lakhs. Second, in order to study at TCD, you’ll have to maintain 8.5+ CGPA in all your semesters.
I am listing down a few pros and cons of IEP so that you can decide for yourself accordingly-
Pros-
Cons-
I would recommend you consider all these factors thoroughly before making a decision. If possible, consult a career counselor as well. Thapar University provides various kinds of scholarships to its students. You can check the official website for more details on the same.
ECE at Thapar University is more Hardware orientated. You may find yourself dealing with semiconductors for about 3 to 3.5 years. In addition to this, will be the onslaught of programming languages and a little portion of database and networking.
In case you opt for the Computer Science program, you'll notice that it is purely software-oriented and has a lot more on programming languages, architectures, databases,, and networking.
ECE is the 2nd best option after CSE as its cut-off is just below it. This year, cut off score for ECE is as listed below:
Particulars | General Category (Outside Punjab) | General Category (From Punjab) |
10th Marks (PCM) | 95.66% | 85% |
JEE Main 2021 | 65.05 percentile | 87.47 percentile |
As for placements, some well-known companies which visit for recruitment, are Texas Instruments, Whirlpool India, TCS, HP, Larsen and Toubro, ST Electronics, Philips, Mu Electronics India, and others. The placement rate is an amazing 99% for most of the departments. The highest package offered this year is 43 LPA and a total of 970 students got placed.
One of my friends graduated from Thapar University. According to his experience, there is no harm in attending the orientation classes
Orientation classes are held for the first-year students before the start of the academic session. They are not necessary to attend. But there is no harm if you attend them, in fact, it is of great help and a good fresh starter.
They get you to know information about the grading system of Thapar University. You get guidance about the do’s and don'ts regarding the attendance and the qualifying criteria, etc.
Apart from the academic schedule, there are guest lectures by the director, senior faculty, and by the deans. Hence, it is better if you attend the orientation session.
NIT Kurukshetra is certainly a better choice than Thapar University. Here are a few strong points that might convince you to choose NIT Kurukshetra

Due to the increased student intake, the cut-offs for COE went down to 100 marks for Punjab and 130 marks for outside Punjab candidates, in the last few years. Here is the cutoff trend for COE.
Year | Cutoff Percentile |
2019 | 89 |
2018 | 84 |
As the seats are increasing, there is a probability that the cut-offs might decline further. The cut-off will be around 90 marks for Punjab and 115 marks for outside Punjab candidates.
It will be better to attend the spot counseling irrespective of your chance of admission as it is uncertain. You might be lucky to get your favorite branch at Thapar.
