It is good overall, but nothing beats the computer science department at any of the old IITs. Still, if you are not getting any of the main branches in IITs, you should go for it.
Alternatively, if you are really passionate about CS and you are not getting it in any IIT (which, I believe, is pretty obvious from your question), you should consider taking an NIT.
Some important information regarding CSE at NIT Calicut are :
| Total course fee | 5.42 lakh |
| Placement rate | 75% |
| Average salary package | 8 lakhs |
| Highest salary package | 36 lakhs |
Many of my friends studied at NIT Calicut. According to them it is really good. If you do not get into IITs then NIT Calicut is the best option available for you.
NIT Calicut is a prestigious college. It has been ranked 23rd in the NIRF Ranking for Engineering 2020. All these rankings depend on various factors.
In NIRF Ranking, graduation outcome, perception, teaching, learning & resources, outreach & inclusivity and others get analyzed. Some of these parameters are essential to make a decision, and some are irrelevant for the students.
However, NIT Calicut is one of the top choices for admission by JEE Main aspirants after NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, and NIT Allahabad. NIT Calicut is famous for its CSE and ECE branches.
As a student of BArch at NIT Calicut, I will describe to you why choosing this institution will be beneficial for your Architectural studies.
In recent years, NIT Calicut has seen immense growth in its BArch course. So much so that it is now among the best NITs to pursue this degree. As per the 2023 NIRF rankings, NIT Calicut is ranked 2nd among the top Architecture Colleges in India.
The faculty of NIT Calicut is friendly and highly experienced. Moreover, NIT Calicut has recorded 100% placements in recent years for BArch. L&T is one of the main recruiters of BArch students at NIT Calicut.
Thus, I would recommend you choose NIT Calicut over LPU for your Architecture degree. You must remain calm and face the challenges that this course offers because ultimately you’ll learn and grow manifold.
If you consider the official rankings, then NIT Warangal is better than NIT Calicut. But the reality is far from this. I don’t think the official rankings are credible enough to judge a college. Students need to consider other aspects also while choosing their college. For instance, proximity to home and the location of the college play a big role. That being said, Calicut is a great city with a good location. It has many places to explore such as restaurants and parks.
Students can also visit Goa which is quite close and enjoy short vacations on the beaches. good city and has some amazing restaurants. Also, Goa is nearby and so are many beach locations.
However, NIT Calicut has strict attendance criteria. So choose wisely!
For applied Physics, NIT Calicut will be a better option. You will learn how to analyze and solve real-world problems using Physics. NIT Calicut placements are good for Engineering Physics. The placement rate for the branch was around 60%. Students of the branch usually receive an average CTC of around INR 27 LPA.
IISER Pune is essentially a science institute. If you are more interested in learning the theoretical aspects of Physics, IISER will be the right place for you.
It depends on you. All three colleges are good in terms of alumni and placements. But, there lies a competition between NIT Calicut and BITS.
Although both have been in existence for a long time now, are excellent colleges, both have a good brand value, one gives you a tag of a NITian and the other gives you a tag of a BITSian, the difference lies in their ranking and placement records.
NIT C is among the top 4 NITs in our country. If we consider the ECE department, it is almost at the same level as NIT Trichy. The average placement for circuit branches is around 12 LPA and the highest placement might go above 30 LPA. Additionally, a higher number of companies recruit from NIT C. BITS Pilani, Goa also provides great placements and good courses. The average CTC offered at BITS Goa is 5 LPA. Apart from infrastructure and attendance policy, other things are similar.
However, PSU visits the NIT Calicut campus during placement drives. A student of the ECE department can sit during the IT placement which is difficult in BITS if you do not take some specific courses.
Both the colleges have certain merits and demerits. The distinguishing factor can be the fee structure. If money is not a concern for you, you can go for BITS Goa but for middle-class students, NIT C would be the best option.
The facilities that you will get from Technology Business Incubator (TBI) at NIT Calicut are as follows.
In addition to this, you will also get
As of now there are thirteen incubate companies at TBI. Some of which are as follows.
So, these are the facilities that you will get from TBI at NIT Calicut.
In comparison to BITS Hyderabad’s EEE, NIT Calicut’s CSE, the latter would be considered a better option. However, it is entirely up to you whether you want to pursue IT jobs or electrical hardware jobs.
Tabulated difference between NIT Calicut CSE or BITS Hyderabad EEE are:
| Categories | CSE from NIT Calicut | EEE from BITS Hyderabad |
| Total course fee | 5.42 lakhs | 19.9 lakhs |
| Top recruiters | ABB, Amadeus, Amdocs, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Capgemini | Adobe, Amazon, Axis Bank , Capgemini, CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants, Cisco System |
| Highest salary package | 36 LPA | 45 LPA |
| Average Salary Package | 15 LPA | 12 LPA |
As I am not much familiar with BITS Hyderabad, I am not able to share details about the college. I had some of my friends graduating from NIT Calicut so I was able to share these details. Therefore, I believe CSE from NIT Calicut is the better option. You can interact with ex-students of BITS Hyderabad to get a proper overview of the college.
If you are a Civil student, my advice to you would be to prepare for the GATE exam once you are done with your degree. The placement is quite low for core companies. Many students also follow the same.
Chemical students are known to focus on jobs and have a good placement in analytics and software-based companies. Many of the top ones also land core jobs.
My suggestion would be to check the syllabus and pick the subject you like. You will realize which subject has good scope and what does not. As far as Civil is concerned, most students land jobs at L&T. But, they will make you work a lot and you will not be satisfied with the pay. This is not the case with Chemical engineering.
As one of my friends is in the Computer Engineering Department of NIT Surat. I might be able to answer the question.
NIT Surat is well known for its Mechanical Branch. Compared to all branches, the quality of professors in the Mechanical Department is far better than the other branches.
If you have any interest in robotics we have Drishti, a student club that is completely dedicated to robotics and SAE for designing cars.
Thus, it is suggested that if you want to pursue mechanical engineering then go for NIT Surat. Whichever institute you choose you won't regret much. NIT Calicut also has good reviews on the internet.
