There are basically 2 steps for getting admission at NITIE.
First, you need to clear the GATE cut-off in order to get a call for the GD-PI round. The GATE cutoff depends on the GATE score and not the marks. The required GATE cutoff varies each year depending on the application pool. However, the cutoff stays generally around 650-700. Here is the GATE cutoff for 2021.
Category | GATE Cutoff |
General | 609 |
OBC | 473 |
SC | 345 |
ST | 317 |
Physically disabled | 473 |
Second, after you've received a call you will have to ace GD and PI.
So, if you want to get into any of the postgraduate PGDIE/PGDMM/PGDPM programs, you must build a very strong profile.
One of my friends cracked it last year. So I might be able to give you some information about it.
For your current studies, if you are using high-quality reading materials from top publishers, that should be sufficient. Aim high and you will succeed. Just keep working hard.
According to my knowledge, the admission procedure is simple. There are some points you can keep in mind during the selection procedure.
Here are some of the basic points for the selection process of a candidate for PGDIM course at NITIE:
Remember one thing, present your best self, and if you are chosen, think wisely and then make any decision. Not only your GD and PI scores but also your class 10, 12 and graduation scores will also play an important role.
Supply Chain Management deals with the flow of goods and services from external businesses or places. Operation management is the management of internal processes. The skill-sets required for SCM and Operations Management are fairly similar. Many companies have different teams or individuals that handle these areas separately. Also, for some companies, a single team or a person handles both areas. The meaning of SCM and Operations are often interchangeable. In NITIE also, they mean the same thing.
The course offered by the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) is designed to cater to the needs of both freshers and experienced professionals. The course curriculum is carefully crafted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the industrial engineering domain to students from diverse backgrounds.
Whether you are a fresher who has just completed your undergraduate degree or an experienced professional looking to enhance your skills, NITIE's course can offer you valuable learning opportunities. The institution's faculty members are experts in their respective fields, and they bring a wealth of industry experience and academic knowledge to the classroom.
As a fresher who is currently pursuing the course at NITIE, I can attest to the fact that the course offers excellent exposure and learning opportunities. The coursework is challenging yet rewarding, and the hands-on training and practical sessions have helped me gain a deeper understanding of industrial engineering concepts.
One of the key advantages of the course is its emphasis on practical learning. The institution offers several industry-focused programs and projects, which help students apply the theoretical concepts they learn in the classroom to real-world scenarios. This practical approach helps students develop their problem-solving skills and prepares them for the challenges they may face in their future careers.
In addition, NITIE has a vibrant student community, with several clubs and societies catering to a range of interests. The institution also hosts several cultural and technical events throughout the year, providing students with ample opportunities to showcase their skills and talents.
Overall, NITIE's course in industrial engineering is a well-rounded and comprehensive program that can offer valuable learning opportunities to both freshers and experienced professionals. The institution's focus on practical learning, industry exposure, and student life makes it an attractive choice for those looking to pursue a career in the industrial engineering domain.
I can give you an idea about the cost of doing an MBA from NITIE as one of my friends is a student there. At present, the tuition fee for MBA is 11 lakhs for a period of 2 years.
Other than that, if you consider assuming Rs. 3500 as the average mess fees for a total of one month, then it sums up to Rs. 35,000 for a time period of 10 months (considering 2 months of vacation period).
The mess fee sums up to Rs. 80,000. The overall amount you might personally require can be 1 Lakh in a total of 2 years. Thus, it can possibly be around or over 13 Lakhs, if you go on to plan for a rather controlled cost vacation in NITIE.
NITIE Mumbai offers a doctoral-level fellowship program. Recognized by the Ministry of HRD, this program is equivalent to a Ph.D. of any Indian Institute.
NITIE Fellow program is interdisciplinary in nature and covers different facets of industrial, business, and social issues. Finance, Marketing, Economics, Operation Management, Organizational Behaviour, Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility & Ethics are some of the specializations of the fellow program.
There are two types of Fellow program admission, i.e. regular full-time candidates and sponsored candidates. Regular full-time candidates with valid GATE or NET JRF scores get financial assistance from the institute.
The course work for the first year is the same for all departments except three steam-specific courses. During the second semester of the program, the institute will assign you a guide as per the research proposal that you will submit during the time of admission.
According to some of my friends studying at NITIE Mumbai, the 12th standard marks are very important and it matters a lot during admission for graduation and placements. Having good marks in the 10th and 12th standard helps a lot but it is not the end of the world.
There are several other factors that are important for placements. Like extracurriculars, additional skills, etc. Thus your 12th standard mark isn't the last thing. A lot of other factors matter for your campus placement in NITIE.
NITIE Mumbai is a renowned B-school which focuses majorly on Operational management. It has the best placements in this field. Also, it admits only Engineers for its MBA program. So, if you want to explore and not sure about your specialisation in MBA, you can choose IIM Trichy over NITIE Mumbai. Because IIM has many specialisation to offer, which will give you a holistic approach of MBA.
However, IIM Trichy is a new IIM and NITIE Mumbai is very old institute. The placement of Nitie Mumbai is far better than IIM Trichy, but in niche domains.
You didn’t mention your branch, which makes it difficult to draw a conclusive comparison. NITIE is known for its Industrial Engineering course.
If you are talking about Industrial Engineering is definitely the better option as compared to IITs. It offers great placement opportunities for Industrial Engineering students. The average CTC offered at the institute is around 20 LPA. In 2021, the highest CTC offered was 44 LPA. Such salary packages are unheard of for M.Tech courses at IITs.
If you are talking about branches other than Industrial Engineering then you should first figure out which branch interests you more, before choosing an institute.
