M.Tech structural engineering at IIT Madras is both challenging and rewarding. IITM is a prestigious institution, and its tag holds a lot of value both inside and outside of India. 

Time will pass very quickly during this course, and by the end of it, you’ll feel that there’s still a lot more to learn. The environment is quite competitive. If you’ll miss your lectures, it’ll be very hard to understand basic concepts while preparing for exams. 

Some professors are very likable, but you’ll not like the teaching style of many. Added to it is the tremendous workload. You’ll be overwhelmed by the never ending assignments. You won’t be spoon fed by anyone. You’ll get the reference books, syllabi and lecture notes, but you’ll have to study by yourself on a regular basis. 

Work hard by yourself, and show keen interest in learning. The professors will be happy to guide you and work with you, given that you show proper interest. They publish lots of research material every year, and are in constant search of good students to help them. 

Your career will get a positive direction at IIT Madras if you’ll work hard and make the most of your time on campus.

Frankly speaking, Biotechnology is yet to make it big at least in India. It's in its initial stage and still requires a lot of time to be at par with other branches of Engineering. India has little to offer in this field and thus job opportunities are limited or almost non-existent. 

Outside India, Biotechnology is in full bloom offering splendid courses in the most renowned foreign universities. One of its fields, Synthetic Biology is one of the most pursued fields abroad and offers excellent opportunities.

Here is the bright side, IIT Madras has ties with many foreign universities thus opening gates for its students to step out and gain exposure in the form of semester exchange programs which is not possible at IITR.

Let me warn you that Biotechnology as a field has limited or no placement scope owing to its research-oriented nature. So if it's a high salary you are after, it's not too late to look for another branch as this field is only for the passionate.

 If you're interested in the IITs and their programs, here's some information to consider:

• The IITs are modeled on MIT, which is one of the best tech and social science schools in the world.
• IIT-Madras has a Humanities program that reflects a level of maturity on the part of the IIT system.
• Rather than being discontinued, some believe that the Humanities program should be extended to other IITs to provide a well-rounded education to students.

It's worth noting that this is one perspective on the IITs and their programs, and other factors may also be important to consider when choosing a college or university. It's always a good idea to research multiple options and weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision.
