Firstly the question is pretty vague as you haven’t mentioned the parameters for comparison between IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and FMS Delhi. Yet I have included some factual comparisons between the three.
FMS is the oldest as it was established in 1954, IIM Calcutta in 1961, and IIM Lucknow in 1984.
FMS and IIM Calcutta offer only one MBA program (2 years) whereas IIM Lucknow offers 3 PGP, PGP-ABM, and PGP-SM.
The order for the batch size of the three colleges is IIML>IIMC>FMS Delhi.
Both the IIMs i.e. IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow are autonomous institutions where FMS Delhi is a department of the University of Delhi.
Fees for IIM Calcutta: INR 2700000, IIM Lucknow: INR 19.25 Lakhs, FMS Delhi: 1.92 Lakhs
The specialty of IIM Calcutta is finance, FMS Delhi is Marketing and IIM Lucknow is operations.
All this comparison is based on actual facts and not my personal opinion.
IIM Ahmedabad - AGMP and IIM Bangalore - EGMP are both excellent programs, better than IIM Calcutta - EPBM. Both classes are held twice a week. Classes were held online during the pandemic. If you are currently employed, both programs will help you advance in your current position.
The one-year AGMP program at IIM Ahmedabad is specifically designed to provide working professionals with general management skills in a global business environment. Jaro Education's classes are delivered using the synchronous Learning Technology platform.
The EGMP at IIM Bangalore brings together participants with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, and experiences, allowing for peer learning. The curriculum is overseen by the IIMB's distinguished faculty. Participants actively participate in case studies and discussions, role-playing, games, and so on.
IIM Calcutta - EPBM prepares participants to adapt to today's fast-paced technological and organizational challenges, while also evolving and adapting themselves. Once a week, the sessions are delivered via an online platform (Sunday from 3:30 - 6:30 PM). There are two 5-day campus visits. Campus visits are subject to the evolving pandemic situation and are dependent on government and institute pandemic regulations, advisories, and guidelines.
IIM Calcutta focuses on CAT rather than 10th/12th/graduation to give you PI calls. Then, during the selection stage, IIM C prioritizes PI performance over all other factors. So, without a doubt, your academic results are excellent and will aid you in the admissions process (though relatively low). So, if you want to get into IIM C for MBA, you should focus on getting a higher CAT percentile and excellent PI preparation and performance.
If you have academic or gender diversity work experience, or if you are from the EWS/PwD/NC-OBC/SC/ST category, the process will be sped up.
There is a Student Exchange Program at each IIM. How old a college is, makes the biggest difference. When compared to newer IIMs, older B schools will have more and better tie-ups with colleges. IIM Calcutta is no exception. As an old college, it has ties with many good schools all over the world.
In today's world, managers must be able to quickly adjust and adapt to a variety of situations, as well as be adaptable enough to work with teams spread across the globe. In such cases, familiarity with foreign cultures and etiquette becomes critical. IIM Calcutta aims to prepare all of its graduates to deal with an increasingly globalized world. Second-year students are given the opportunity to study abroad for a trimester as part of this endeavor. This teaches students how to work in multinational teams while also learning about the intricacies of multiple ethnicities.
The Student Exchange Program (STEP) provides our students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to practice their skills in a global setting. Additionally, this aids them in learning important information about their peer group at the partner institute. Along with fostering relationships that last a lifetime, this exchange gives students the opportunity to hone the practical abilities needed to function effectively in groups of people from a wide range of backgrounds. Thus, teachers try to instill in their students the traits that managers of today highly value, such as being more tolerant and open-minded.
STEP takes up the fifth trimester of a total of six trimesters that an IIMC student must attend. Students can attend courses of their choice at the partner institute and receive the necessary academic credits at IIM Calcutta for their efforts. STEP allows a student to be exposed to various perspectives on management practice today, as well as see them applied in a variety of situations.
Deciding to drop out from IIM Calcutta is definitely a very difficult decision. One has to go through a lot to make it. Now if you get a repeat year don’t get demotivated. The first step should be to analyze the reason for your failure.
In case of sickness or personal reasons: Such reasons should be given a second chance. Don’t just give up your bright future just because you failed to accomplish it in due time.
Failed in certain subjects: There are two scenarios to be considered here. First, you are confident that you will now put in extra effort and make it through. Then you should definitely repeat. But if you are not confident and think you won’t be able to make it again then don’t waste your time and efforts repeating. It’s normal not to be able to accomplish certain things that others can. There are always other options that might be better for you.
The most important thing is what your reason for repeating the year is. And honestly, you know best whether you should repeat the year or not.
The BA course has been recently initiated at both institutes. Without second thoughts, Great Lakes has top-notch faculty who handle the courses meticulously. But the competitor IIM Calcutta makes the discussion more difficult.
The only difference between the two courses is that IIM Calcutta has probably started the BA course because of its flagship PGPM program under the IIMC brand. Whereas Great Lakes BA is another flagship program. So the focus might be better.
Choose IIM Calcutta if you are willing to attach yourself to its brand name for the rest of your life.
The 2-year PGP program will undoubtedly be available in the CAT application form for IIM Calcutta. Simply select all of the programs, and the problem will be resolved.
If you are only interested in IIM Calcutta, select all programs with the IIM Calcutta name in the list. The CAT registration form 2022 is divided into six sections, as follows:

When compared to the top IIMs, SPJIMR is a rather moderately good B School. Yet the placements and roles offered by the B School are at par with that of IIMs. The major USP of the B School is its profile-based evaluation. This means a certain candidate can make it into SPJIMR even if he was unable to get a high CAT or XAT score of 98-99 percentile provided that his profile is excellent. With the required skills, qualities, and a decent academic record you could get admission and meet not necessarily get a very high CAT score. This gives a wider spectrum for students to showcase their skills other than academics. There are some more key points where SPJIMR fares rather well when compared to IIMs or other B Schools.
Fees: The primary factor that distinguishes SPJIMR from the top B Schools is the moderate fees. SPJIMR PGDM fees for 2 years is ?20.42 Lakhs (Total Fees) while that of top IIMs is above 20 lakhs.
Placements: The entire placement drive is concluded quite fast and is at par with the top IIMs. SPJIMR Completes Final Placements 2023 with 46% Rise in Highest Salary at Rs. 77.8 LPA and 3% Rise in Average Salary at Rs. 33.02 LPA; Accenture, BCG, HUL, Godrej, ITC, KPMG, P&G being the major recruiters.
Batch size: This is an often underestimated aspect when in reality it affects both, placements and the quality of education. SPJIMR batch size is around 300 while that of most IIMs is 350-500. The low batch size results in better bonding between peers and close relations with the faculty.
Location: Located in the Finance capital of India, SPJIMR offers a plethora of advantages. Easy access to CXOs and practitioners gives the learning experience at SPJIMR a practical approach.
Curriculum: The curriculum is unique in the sense that it targets not just the student's IQ but also EQ and creates socially and emotionally aware managers. This unique course curriculum at SPJIMR offers three distinct levels of learning:
Pedagogy: Apart from the regular courses and teaching methodology employed at other premier B Schools, SPJIMR takes five key initiatives in the ‘Non-Classroom Learning’ area which include ADMAP, DOCC, Abhyudaya, PG Lab, and Science of Spirituality.
All these unique aspects make life at SPJIMR a very good experience compared to old IIMs.
