These are a few things you should know about Thapar University as a fresher-
- The faculty has both kinds of teachers- some are really good at teaching, some are equally bad at it. Though all the teachers are well-qualified, not all of them are good at teaching.
- Maintain an 8+ CGPA during your first year. Other than that, don’t stress much about the placements, they are quite far off as of now.
- Freshmen get hostel rooms on a sharing basis, with often 4 people in a single one. You will make good friends and mix well with the crowd. As you become a sophomore, you will get to choose among single rooms, double rooms, AC rooms, etc. The mess food is good and the night canteen is a bonus.
- The entire Thapar University campus is ragging-free.
- Patiala is a calm town. Thapar University campus is flanked by biodiversity parks on two sides, it has a forest/garden with a man-made lake inside it.
- The senior-junior interaction is great and you will befriend a lot of seniors through societies, clubs, etc. You will meet new people and make some amazing friends regardless of your cultural background or personality type. There is something for everyone over here.
Your life at Thapar will be filled with opportunities and distractions. It depends upon you how well you establish a balance between your studies and other activities.
Is class 12 score included in thapar university?
Yes, your class 12th score will be included in admission at Thapar University. Earlier admission was given on the basis of JEE Main rank and 12th board score in PCB/PCM. The division of seats was around 70% and 30% respectively.
But the Thapar Institute had recently revised its admission policy for admissions in the BE/BTech programs. As per the new criteria, 100% of the seats will be allotted on the basis of scores in the Class 12th examination. The student can check the deadlines on the official website of the college.
Which one is better - Thapar University (EIC) or JIIT Noida (CSE)?
Thapar University in all aspects is a lot better than JIIT. But I am not quite aware of the EIC branch. You can interact with ex-students of the institute online, to get a better idea about the course. If you think it will be a better choice, go for it.

- Most of the companies that participate in Thapar’s placement program are well reputed like Microsoft, Infosys, and many more.

Thapar University Center for Industrial Liaison & Placement (CILP) is a body that organizes campus interviews to provide placement training to final-year students of all branches.
However, Thapar University has very low cutoffs because of its increasing fees. The institute is in a state of rapid development and needs funds to improve its infrastructure. The cutoffs are expected to restore better standards once the institute is well-developed.
Thapar University is a decent choice for a private college and can be considered if you failed to make it to BITS Pilani.
What are the some lesser known facts about Thapar University in Patiala?
My brother is a final year student at Thapar University so I think I can answer this question.
This is about the ECE department only.
- The faculty members of the ECE department are not good. Almost 99% of them lack basic knowledge about the subject.
- You have to do nothing at the labs apart from making files. After 4 years at the university and after spending 12 lakhs, the only thing you will learn at the labs is working on CRO.
- The lab assistants and other Ph.D. students who help at the labs during experiments know nothing more than which wires are to be connected at which points.
- Lastly, talking about the placements. Coding and communication skills are the two things based on which you will get placed. You do not need to have any hardcore knowledge of ECE subjects.

Which is better, CSE at Thapar University or CSE at Chandigarh University?
Except for BITS Pilani, CSE at Thapar is far superior to any other university.
Chandigarh University does not offer better placements or opportunities. It's all just public relations to boost the college's image.
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, on the other hand, is one of India's most prestigious and best engineering institutes. In the NIRF Government of India rankings, Thapar Institute of Engineering And Technology was ranked 23rd. For the last six years, the placement rate has been consistently higher than 90%. A total of 361 recruiters took part, recruiting 1622 students. Students were offered the highest package of INR 40 LPA, while the average package was INR 10.97 LPA.

Can I get CSE at Thapar University with 127 marks in the Mains, general outside Punjab?
Yes, you can get CSE at Thapar University easily even if you don’t hail from Punjab. The reason is even with low marks students can get some other branch and then appear for the December Test to upgrade their branch to CSE. You need to be among the top 20 students to upgrade your branch to CSE. Another option is to make sure you have a 9.7 CGPA or higher in the first year. This will increase your chances of upgrading your branch to CSE.
The subjects taught in the first to students of all branches are the same so you won’t lag behind in your branch. Also, the pattern and syllabus of the December test are exactly like JEE Mains so you don’t have to worry about preparing for it separately.

The CS branch of Thapar University has much better ranking placements, and faculty as compared to NIT Srinagar.

Which one is better: Thapar or HBTI Kanpur?
I have friends from both Thapar and HBTI, so I think I can answer this question.
- Thapar is a private university, so naturally, it has better infrastructure.
- HBTI, on the other hand, is one of the oldest institutions of the country and at the same time has gained much reputation among the students. It also has an extensive alumni network.
- Also, the chemical branch at HBTI Kanpur is well-known among students for its highly qualified and skillful faculty members.

Is the CSE at Thapar University, Dera Bassi campus good?
Thapar University has recently started the CSE branch so not much cannot be said about it. Although its cutoffs are higher than COE, I don’t think a new branch can take over a well-established branch like COE this easily.
The Dera Bassi campus is located in a village and the proximity to the industry makes the living conditions pathetic for students. Moreover, the faculty is said to be average qualified and there aren't any practical lab sessions.
So, I will recommend you go for any lower branch at the main Thapar Campus than going for CSE in the Dera Bassi campus.
