What rank do I need to get into the NITIE with a course in mechanical engineering under the general category?

PN
Priyam Narsikar Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at NITIE Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends from NITIE mentions that for the mechanical engineering course under the general category, there are different requirements of GATE score by the college for the admission process.

  • For the general category, for any branch, the score of GATE is around 650.
  • There is no branch preference given over any other branches.
  • There are different cut-offs for every year and it depends on a lot of factors.
  • The factors include the average GATE scores of the students, the total no of received applications, and many others.
  • The last and final selection depends on factors such as the 10th aggregate, 12th aggregate, graduation aggregate, GATE score, group discussion, and personal interview.
  • There are different weights for every factor and after all the calculations with their respective weights are done, the final list is prepared.

The GATE score is quite difficult to say as there can be even a waiting list if there is a requirement for the same. Therefore, if a person gets the required minimum GATE score and performs well in the GD and PI round. Then there is a possibility of getting the call as the shifting in the waiting list is not predictable.

It is best to either secure a job either at a government-run organization, PSU, or go for NITIE. You can opt for either option.

You need to obtain the best offer at the end of the day, and securing a position in the job sector might be a good decision. Apart from that, if you do not share a valuable amount of interest in the PSU, then joining NITIE Mumbai might be the best option for you.

You will get the chance to witness several big firms visiting the campus, alongside the addition of value to your profile and simultaneous growth. In terms of the technical courses, you should definitely research more about them, as per your requirements.

NITIE is a beautiful campus, and I would like to tell you that one of my friends who was in NITIE had the best two years of his life there. The curriculum is not very taxing, and you can seamlessly weave in that much-needed fun in your academic life, add it with good placement and you are good to go.

I am mentioning some of the advantages to you of studying in NITIE but it is not limited to these.

Better career opportunities:

  • NITIE offers huge opportunities to enter the industries with high packages.
  • NITIE is known as the “Mecca of Supply Chain in India”, many major organizations look towards NITIE for cross verticals requirements.

Return on investment:

  • High return on investment has made engineering students looking towards NITIE.
  • The ROI here is more than you can expect.
  • This is one of the reasons why many students opt for NITIE over even IIMs.

Check the following table for recent placement statistics at the institute:

Categories NITIE Mumbai
Course Fee 12.53 - 14.63 lakhs
Highest CTC 28 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, Cognizant, IBM, TCS, etc.

Location:

  • Located in the city of dreams Mumbai, no doubt NITIE enjoys the location advantage – which leads to a closer and easier industry interaction.
  • It has a lush green campus which is breathtaking.
  • The Campus possesses a beautiful pond with a walking circumference of close to 600m and is flanked by lush green gardens around the campus.

So, from this, you can conclude by yourself how beautiful the campus is and placement, on the other hand, are also really good. You won’t regret choosing NITIE over newer IIMs if any.

Is PGDIE from NITIE equivalent to M.Tech as per any HRD Ministry amendment?

SP
Shruti Pathan Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE Mumbai and several IIMs provide Post Graduate Diploma and it is considered equivalent to professional degrees in India, including MBA, as is given out by universities.

IITs are deemed universities themselves, which neither IIM nor NITIE are. This means that the degrees offered by them have the official banner of M.Tech. In that case, if you are planning to go for higher education, or even for employment purposes abroad, they will ask you for your degree, then you have chances of facing issues.

Whereas, if you pursue a Ph.D., Fellowship, or even employment within India, then there will not be any hassle whatsoever.

Several aspirants consider NITIE Mumbai the only institutional hub of pursuing an MBA via GATE. This gives NITIE Mumbai an uneven platform, in contrast to numerous other institutes that only offer an M.Tech. In a nutshell, the course of PGDIE is considered to be very closely similar to the PGDIM courses essentially offered by NITIEs via CAT.

Would a two year gap affect my chances of getting into NITIE?

SK
Suresh Kakkar Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering, graduated in 2020

No, a gap of two years will not hamper your chances of getting into NITIE. It is a common thing, actually. Students who are preparing for competitive exams often take breaks.

Imagine you are the interviewer and you have two CVs in front of you. One CV has a gap of two years and the other one does not. It is up to you who you want to select. The general answer will be the fresher.

But it depends if a two-year gap will have any effect on getting admission. It is not the only factor that determines admission, though. If you perform well in your GATE/CAT exams, have an admirable track record in academics you will have a good chance of being selected. A good experience in work also goes a long way in solidifying your chances for admission.

You have to come up with a reason for the gap in your CV that is reasonable enough to the interviewer(s). Convince them that the purpose for taking the gap is reasonable even if you are preparing for the competitive exams. Because at last honesty and confidence counts.

What is the academic schedule of NITIE?

AS
Aakanksha Sharma Posted On : August 13th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE follows the module system wherein each one includes about 6 subjects. In the first year, all 6 subjects are compulsory while in the second year only one subject is compulsory and 5 subjects are elective. Also, on average, each module is of 3 months.

The fourth module at the end of the first year is reserved for the Summer internship for which proper placements take place starting from the second module. You need to submit a well-prepared report of the projects that have been completed during your internship and have to present it in the form of PPT.

Check the table to know the Academic Schedule at NITIE:

Modules Conducted in
Module 1 and 5 June to August
Module 2 and 4 September to November
Module 3 and 7 January to March
Module 6 April to May (Summer Internship)

The above-mentioned schedule is for IM and ISEM students. For the students of IE, PM, and MM, there is not any Module 7, instead, they are given a project that has to be completed under any of the professors of the college.

Students are given a month of holiday in December. You can do winter internships at that time.

How one can get good summer internship at NITIE? Generally, how much of a stipend is offered during an internship?

NS
Naman Shekhawat Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

During a normal placement season, there are about 4 to 5 days in which major companies hire for summer placements. The top companies will come within the first two days. You can think of applying then right away so you have higher chances of getting converted and landing a job.

If you are looking for an internship, some things will be in your hands while a few might not. During your first three months at the college, you will be trained quite well for group discussion and personal interview. Your overall communication and subject knowledge will also improve especially in the field of supply chain and operations.

Companies usually shortlist students who will be involved in the company process. Your chances of being shortlisted highly depend on your previous academic grades, work experience, your CV, and also the company requirements.

The highest stipend for two months is about INR 3 lakhs with an average of about INR 1.28 lakhs for two months.

Overall, ensure that you have a well-rounded CV to help increase your chances of getting selected.
