I am a student of B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee. Thus, I can only provide an insight into my branch/college-
The 2023 placement stats for EE at IIT Roorkee are as given below:
Branch | Highest Package | Average Package | Median Package |
---|---|---|---|
EE | INR 44.62 LPA | INR 19.05 LPA | INR 15 LPA |
Based on these reasons, I can safely say that Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee is a good choice.
Placements for Metallurgical Engineering are good. Although very few students get core placements. Last year the placement average for the branch was 94.5%. The highest and average CTC offered to the students were 28.7 LPA and 8 LPA. A few of the major recruiters for the branch were Mecon (PSU), JSPL, Tata Steel, Vedanta, etc.
Both IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU are highly comparable to each other in terms of academic and professional excellence. However, both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses and my answer will guide you to make the most appropriate choice
Course structure: The course structure of both EE at IIT BHU and ECE at IIT Guwahati is similar and has very few differences.
Infrastructure: IIT Guwahati has better infrastructure because of its later establishment. IIT Guwahati is known for its extremely beautiful campus with rich natural beauty.
Alumni: Being older, IIT BHU has a longstanding legacy of excellence. This has a positive effect on the placements.
Culture: IIT BHU has a rich and dynamic work culture that is generally not found in engineering colleges.
Faculty and peer pool: Both IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati have excellent faculty and peer pool being reputed institutions.
Ultimately, it’s all about personal inclinations and there is no fixed right or better choice.
It’s true that there are areas in which IIT BHU needs to improve like infrastructure, faculty, etc. But writing off the institute entirely would be wrong. Here are the reasons why.
In fact, IIT BHU has improved its academics, research culture, placements, a lot over the years. Life on campus in IIT BHU is similar to any other IIT.
IIT BHU offers a decent MTech program in Industrial Management. The MTech programs at IIT BHU are multidisciplinary and research-oriented and the course curriculum is designed to meet the industry requirements. There is a huge exposure for higher education in industrial engineering management in the domain of supply chain management, operation research, inventory management, etc.
All the manufacturing and engineering companies offer jobs specifically to industrial engineers. Some of them are TATA Steel, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, Maruti Udyog. There are also other companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc. to name a few that offer jobs. Government organizations like BSNL, ONGC, ISRO, etc. also offer jobs with handsome packages. The average package offered in 2019 campus placement was between 10 LPA to 58 LPA.
IIT BHU is one of the top 10 IITs in India and gives you the best education and placement support. As a fresher, you need to keep in mind some dos and don’ts for a successful future.

I chose Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU because it is a part of the prestigious IIT network. As a result, IIT BHU offers a strong academic and research environment. The Mechanical department of IIT BHU is well-established and offers good placements and industry connections.
With a bit more dedication, you can learn coding on the side while studying Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU. This will ensure decent placements in the IT sector for you, in case you decide on opting for that domain in the future.
I would recommend you choose IIT BHU Mechanical over CSE at JU simply because IIT BHU will offer you much more exposure and better placements.
IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati are well-established and reputed institutions in India. Both of them have pros and cons. If you are looking to have a career in the mechanical field, IIT BHU is a good option for you. They are best at placement support and academics, and you will have the advantage of the branch change policy. Let us have a detailed comparison between IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati
Placement – The recruiters from major companies mostly give placement to the students from IIT BHU. This institution is renowned for its placement support, and they confirm that they provide effective placement for their students contingent on their caliber in the respective field. At IIT Guwahati, only a lesser number of students got placed in big companies with high-salary jobs when compared with IIT BHU.
Campus – Both institutes offer good campus life to the students. They have good infrastructure and a top library facility.
Branch Change Policy – IIT BHU has a branch change policy that will allow you to change your branch from mechanical to CSE after the first year. Only 10% of students with a good CGPA will get the chance to change branches.
Academics – Students are given effective classes conducted by experienced scholars in both institutes. You will be given study materials and have a library facility for more references.
You can opt for IIT BHU, which is perfect for a mechanical student.
In my opinion, if you are interested in CSE, you should go for IIT BHU VARANASI. Some points to prove my opinion right are:
IIT BHU offers better packages than NIT Jalandhar.
IIT tag is very valuable
Study environment, facilities and academic culture at IIT BHU is much better than NIT Jalandhar.
Initially Pharmaceutical may seem challenging. But with time you will adjust.
